Last time it rained that heavy, last time the Barron flooded as high as it did in the rain after jasper, was 1974 according to the old locals round here. Our place on the Barron is about 15km upstream from Kuranda. We are 18m above the normal wet season river level, and it drops about 1.5 to 2m in the dry. On the Saturday after Jasper, we had the river lapping at our back yard. My neighbour's house went under up to the roof. At 8am we saw the little creek was coming up through the jungle in front of his place. By 9am his yard was under and there was water at his back door. by 11am you couldn't see the top of the door any more. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Stayed up like that for about 2 hours and then slowly began to drop by mid afternoon. The next morning we could get back in there and it was just trashed, covered in stinking silt and mud. They lost everything, both on disability, no contents insurance. I had them living in my spare room for six weeks while they house was cleaned out and the wiring was checked out and redone.

Local tip. If you want to go catching (not fishing,) use burley. 5 to 8mm fish pellets mixed with tuna oil, drop it into slack water where you'll be fishing and give it ten to fifteen minutes to draw in some fish. If you can see where the tuna oil is drifting off, cast there. Also, this is important on our beaches and around our creeks and estuaries. DO NOT turn your back on the water when you're at the water's edge, and don't loiter at the water's edge. You didn't see a single saltwater crocodile in this video, but there would have been as many as half a dozen out of sight in the video you just watched. It's the one you don't see that will get you.

Excellent and a quick question. In New York we have to use circle hooks by law for striped bass. Does this work well with the weight of bait such as squid or bunker (menhaden)?

Buzzy -I notice that when you are separating the meat from the shell you leave the small circular part attached to to the shell - if you use the “clean “ part of the shell as a scoop - ie slide it under the muscle meat that’s still attached to the shell - everything will come away easily and cleanly !

I make a garlic butter and fill the shell with mussel and the butter. Add a touch of Tabasco sauce if you want a bit of heat with it. Mix it into the garlic butter as well. Place on BBQ like you did and let the butter melt and fry gently for a few minutes. 😋😋😋 Now I need to try this version! 👍😀

Maybe try a zinc sacrified anode ... not sure if it helps. Perhaps it will eat away the zinc not the steel.

I run a couple lengths of poly pipe with a bunch of little misting nozzles through the frame and attach a hose fitting to the end. Run it for a good 10 - 15 minutes every time. Works well.

Buy a Aluminium trailer with stainless bolts ect

Hey Buzzy great insight! Yes I agree. It does my head in. They build a trailer to be submerged in water salty at that. Then. Don’t think to design it properly for the conditions. I bought a stessco renegade in 2018 my first brand new boat. I thought easy to keep rust from a new boat and bugger me mate. I hose it down wash it out and yet boom springs etc the normal stuff still rusts up. I thought I must be doing it wrong. Even the crank handle to pull the boat up. Why why why 😢

Hey Buzzy, As always thanks for your videos. As many others have said the holes are generally put in for Hot dip Galvanising. Having owned many boats and trailers the only advice I can give you is keep up with the maintenance as it always catches us up when we don't want it and seems you do anyways. I priced a trailer last year for a 4.6m clark I beam galvanised steel and was over 10k. Unbelievable steel prices 😢.... Those cross member beams, a boiler maker would sort them out in no time at all and ask to put heavier wall box in place like 4 or 5mm thick, will last much longer. Generally all of these trailers are made to a price and thin wall box section is used. Other then that I have put bigger wheels on my trailer and has helped a bit. The bigger wheels get you more height and you don't have to sink your trailer as much compared to smaller wheels. Pros and cons for both, but has helped my latest trailer.

My Quintrex trailer is a 2014 and it's stuffed. Rusted everywhere. Not sure how long untill it breaks. Limiting my trip distance bit by bit. Washed and flushed evertime.

Buzzy ... You did very well to preserve that trailer for that lengthy of time. Mate ... make some enquiries with a steel fabricater to cut out the RHS cross members and replace then with heavy gauge gal channel... That will see both you AND the boat out at a fraction of the cost of a new trailer .
