Was this NECESSARY? | Causes more PROBLEMS than NOT!🤨

- Hello everyone...
I have wondered why they even do this on the trailers? FAULTY by design? what purpose dose this serve when its already galvanised besides creating more potential rust problems like what i have right now.🤨

They have to have holes in the cross members for when they hot dip galvanise. If it was to be sealed up cross member when they hot dip the trailer it would explode
Hi i get it..they could at least sealed it after wards
I run a couple lengths of poly pipe with a bunch of little misting nozzles through the frame and attach a hose fitting to the end. Run it for a good 10 - 15 minutes every time. Works well.
Hi and cheers for that a very good idea😀👍👍
The reason there are drain holes and a gap between the bottom of cross member to the side frame of the trailer is when they hot dip the trailer in galvanising zinc, it needs to go into all the sections and be able to drain out properly when they lift it out of the zinc bath, it's a cost, the more gal, the more weight and more money.
Hi and yeah its all about the cost👍😀
Buzzy ... You did very well to preserve that trailer for that lengthy of time.
Mate ... make some enquiries with a steel fabricater to cut out the RHS cross members and replace then with heavy gauge gal channel... That will see both you AND the boat out at a fraction of the cost of a new trailer .
Hi nice herring from ya😀👍ill be asking by around not planning in a new trailer that for sure🤞🤞
Hey Buzzy,
As always thanks for your videos. As many others have said the holes are generally put in for Hot dip Galvanising.
Having owned many boats and trailers the only advice I can give you is keep up with the maintenance as it always catches us up when we don't want it and seems you do anyways. I priced a trailer last year for a 4.6m clark I beam galvanised steel and was over 10k. Unbelievable steel prices 😢....
Those cross member beams, a boiler maker would sort them out in no time at all and ask to put heavier wall box in place like 4 or 5mm thick, will last much longer. Generally all of these trailers are made to a price and thin wall box section is used.
Other then that I have put bigger wheels on my trailer and has helped a bit. The bigger wheels get you more height and you don't have to sink your trailer as much compared to smaller wheels. Pros and cons for both, but has helped my latest trailer.
Hi great hearing from u😀 they could at least sealed the holes after the galv dip and would of solved a world of hert.
10k on trailer omg😮 im doomed😭
My Quintrex trailer is a 2014 and it's stuffed. Rusted everywhere. Not sure how long untill it breaks. Limiting my trip distance bit by bit. Washed and flushed evertime.
Hi i feel ya its creeping onto me now too. Everywhere is fine just that one centre spot screwed me over☹️
Good luck mate we’re all feeling the same struggle $$$
Hi thanks for tuning in😀seems like its just gonna get worse☹️
See if you can replace the rusted beams first, if not bog up, paint & sell it, like car yards do, gota do what you gota do, $ towards your new one. I know mate, its stressful.
Love the video 😊
The holes in the middle and slits at the end are so that the galvanising can get inside the square tube when the trailer is hot dipped. Unfortunately galvanising has a finite life. Looks like your trailer still has a fair fit of life in it. When the rust starts to eat through the vertical surfaces you should look at getting some plates welded on to strengthen it.
In the meantime, spray some Tectyl in the holes to protect the rusty areas inside. There is probably less rust internally because it's not exposed to the stone chips etc. Just make sure you keep those drainage holes clear, so that salty water never gets trapped in it. Maybe take the kids up to Tinaroo a couple of times a year for some tubing behind the boat. Good excuse to dip the trailer in the fresh for a good rinse.
Hi thanks for the tips they mean alot every tips goes a long way for me😍 wished they sealed it after the galv to avoid this altogether☹️
@@buzzythaosadventures7580 There is no suitable way to seal it, because as soon as you weld the outside, the gal on the inside surface will vaporise and consequently rust quicker.
If they welded it without leaving the holes to allow the galvanising to get inside, the inside surface would not have any protection and would rust from the inside out and would have a much shorter lifespan.
Because the zinc is sacrificial, the steel will only have very minor surface rust. It looks worse than it actually is.
Just keep squirting some protection or rust converter on the areas needed, and it should last for many more years.
The rain is the same in Brisbane. Driving us nuts
Fully agree im sick of mowing the lawn every week🥵🥵
Maybe try a zinc sacrified anode ... not sure if it helps. Perhaps it will eat away the zinc not the steel.
My boat has similar design.
Hey Buzzy great insight! Yes I agree. It does my head in. They build a trailer to be submerged in water salty at that. Then. Don’t think to design it properly for the conditions.
I bought a stessco renegade in 2018 my first brand new boat. I thought easy to keep rust from a new boat and bugger me mate. I hose it down wash it out and yet boom springs etc the normal stuff still rusts up. I thought I must be doing it wrong. Even the crank handle to pull the boat up.
Why why why 😢
Hi thanks for tuning in😀 right now i think its purposely flawed by design to save cost and mass produce. Im willing to pay that little extra for a better built trailer and eliminate this problem iv got altogether. They do build them fully sealed not like mine and they all dun have this problem
@@buzzythaosadventures7580 agreed. I took a look at mine and I have the same holes. I am currently experimenting using vinegar and salty captains to remove rust. Fingers crossed. But I do hear you i was silly to assume the same thing
@@paullobwein1632 if yors haven’t rusted inside out yet now is the good time to plug it use oil or don something to prevent it. Its can be easily addressed and will save u a huge problem….i only i new at the start i would of addressed it☹️💸💸💸
@@buzzythaosadventures7580 yes over the weekend I have planned to do just that. Thank you and hopefully you can find a solution. Maybe a fabrication company will come to your side
Hey so I have been looking into and ordered from 4wdetail. Although designed for 4wd I see a huge cross application to boats and out trailers. They have some great products made here in australia. Might be worth a look.
Plug bottom holes and pump oil in
Hi thanks for the tip😀 I’m thinking a out it👍
You can buy bolt on cross members. Just cut ur old ones out and bolt on the new.
Hi thank for the info👍 always good to know and im thinking of doing just that put anew one on thank u😀
Save your old sump oil and pour in into the metal box pipe. If there's not access point drill a hole to pour oil in. Don't weld it up water tight because condensation will sit in there and rust it any way. I've been a boiler maker for 40 year's and when it comes to metal oil and Grease is you friend water is your enemy. Also in the forks of the box pipe drill a 10 mill hole so water does not sit in there 👍
Hi and thanks for the tip very much appreciate it😍👍
I run saltaway flush tho motor then mix bit put tho trailer hose tho after every launch won't stop it but slows it ❤
Hi and yes i agree we can only slow it down and rust will eventually get to it👍
Fish oil bro but 10 tins and soak the lot
Hi thanks for the tip😀 im thinking of it just need a good sealant to last to plug the hole
@@buzzythaosadventures7580
still fish oil it...!
in the inside of the box steel tube before you seal the gaps Sikkaflex silicone then coat the whole trailer with fish oil
It will last your lifetime.
It's dark brown ish black ish once dry it's not about looks it's about lasting and not corroding...!
Weld up all opening. Cut a hole in the top of tubing. Pour some oil in the hole you just cut and weld up. Oil will slush around inside tubing and nowhere to go preventing corrosion from inside
Hi thats interesting thanks for replying ill look into that👍😀
@buzzythaosadventures7580 an old timer, told me that trick. Keep up the great content, buddy
Add vinegar to help get rid of salt,
I cote the axles and springs in grease and spray wd40 on rollers and everything every second trip even spay it under the engine cowling and all the electrics.
Buy a Aluminium trailer with stainless bolts ect
Yes they r nice😀👍ill try to salvage this one first of i can
