What a great guy! So enthusiastic and loves to share! Top man!
Cheers mate, thanks for watching! 👍
Hi mate get your self a LTS NITRO OR LTS EXPLOSIVE RODS they can't be beaten 😉
Hey, just had a wee look in LTS rods and they do look very good! I will keep an eye out 😉 Thanks for the suggestion, tight lines!
replace worn cork parts blend in not rocket science ,look forward to your trips
Haha I’m sure it isn’t but that’s something I also don’t want to be doing every season. I actually used some wood filler and varnish to fix the cork, hopefully it will last. Thanks very much for watching, tight lines!
I had an estimated 27 pounder off the dead water below the bridge my biggest to date! Happy memories
Brilliant, well done! 27lb is huge! Specially these days. I’m hoping for my first fish from Boleside this season. I have fished there few times last year but no luck.
Its a cracker 👌👌👌
I'm in a similar position to yourself, it's the GR70 I've got, and it's got a few weak spots just where my top hand usually is. I've just ordered some brummer wood filler to see if that'll do the trick.
That’s exactly where my cork is given away. I think filler and some varnish over it should sort it. I will try to do the same
@Hookedonfly I'll let you know how i get on, fingers crossed as i really like the action of the rod. Tight lines for 2025 and congratulations on your engagement.
Thanks very much 👍 Tight lines!
Awesome video 👍👊
Thanks 🙌
Take a look at Bloke Rods. They're a local businesses down in the borders, have some awesome Rods and lines.
Loop cross S1 13’ #8. If you can find one, absolutely peach of a rod.
Look like there is a big demand for that rod, non for sale that I can see. Thanks for the suggestion. Tight lines!
@@Hookedonfly yes, they are hard to come by now. As loop stopped producing them when the brought out the 7X. Plus, the people that do have them love them, but you do see them pop up every now & then. If I see any I’ll let you know 👍🏻
That’s fair enough. Cheers but I will realistically get new rod for 2026 seasons and I’m after 14’ #10 To match my reel.
Hi Tam on the handles I use Matt varnish on my Shakespeare rods have done for 20+ years and have no problems. Anyway tight lines for 2025 🎣🤞
Hi Dennis, thanks. That’s probably a good shout for now 👍 Tight lines
I look forward to your fishing VLOGs 2025 ,tight lines!
Thanks for watching on both platforms 😉
Horseburgh is high up in the tweed , autumn is your best time there
Fishing much lower down this spring, Ladykirk, Pedwell for February. Although I did managed to get a springer last season at Horseburgh, probably the first one ever there haha
@@Hookedonfly nice one ,what month
Cadence
Never thought about that one, thanks 👍
My wife and I have bought Guidelines LPX and NT11 in the last year and they fish beautifully. Very balanced and easy casting.
Thanks for the suggestion, few ppl mentioned this rod now. I just had a wee look at it and it does looks really good! Tight lines
That looks like the biggest reel and cup ever with the camera angle.😂
Hahaha yeah it actually looks huge, went back to look at it 😂
Bloke trebuchet 13,6 8# great rod
Thanks, will check it out 🙌
Nice one Tam. Take a look at the guideline chrome LPX. Around the £5/600 mark. Cracking salmon rod. Feels much higher in price range than it is.
Cheers, I will check it out. Sounds definitely interesting 👍
If you can find a loop cross sx 13"2 8wt snap it up as fast as you can. Or even an 13ft 8wt S1 paired with 30gm/470gr lines ie gaelforce esss 8/9. I had an lts thor reel before it was a nice reel but I felt I lost a couple smaller fish because its a fixed drag. I picked up a lts dynamic classic afterwards. The salmonfishingforum website is a very good place to pick up some 2nd hand lines and rods. AVOID GREYS, I had tue same issue with the cork and a few of their rods before.
Try the hardy marksman great rod and light quality from hardy 👍🏼
Thanks, I will have a look on that one 👍
Congrats on your open wallet surgery aka engagement - shes a lucky gal 😊😂. I have loved watching your journey last season. Have a look at the guideline nt8, super rid, they frequently pop up for £350/£400 ish. Tight lines Tam.
Hahaha thanks! Cheers for watching, I’m glad you like the videos. I will have a look at that rod, thanks for the suggestion. Tight lines 👊
Hello Tam,come up and fish the findhorn at forres £45 a day I like may time,I can look after you for a day or two
Hey Findhorn is definitely one of the places I would love to fish! £45 is also pretty good price, I need to look in to that. Cheers 👍
@ no bother pal
👍
Nice one Tam 👍👍🥃
Cheers 🙌
Id be wanting at least an intermediate (1in per sec) but preferably a sink 2 or 3 line for the tweed in Feb. Plus sink tips. I like short head lines with no loops myself and had a brilliant michael evans integrated sink 3 line that caught me loads of fish. Its now knackered and he doesnt do them now. Most companies only do integrated floating lines like your rio and have stopped producing sinking versions. They want to sell us shooting heads i guess. Its not just about deprh its about cutting thru the water and slowing the swing. On deep, glidey early water on lower rivers imo a floater and 10 ft tip aint good enough! Tight lines.
I agree, will need some heavy sink tip on for early season. The fastest I have is 7 inch per second, I’m hoping that and copper tubes will do the business 😉 If not may need to look around for some intermediate/sinking lines for the future. Thanks for the tips 👍 Tight lines!
Tam, i fish the Teviot at Kelso, and have rods by-- Loop, Sage, Vision, Guideline and a few others. You are welcome to meet up sometime and have a chuck with them, Billy.
Hi Billy, I will take you up on that sometime 👍 Would be great to try other brands and see the difference Cheers
@@Hookedonfly Anytime, as i am retired 👍
see if you can pick up a second hand 13,6 8/9 hardy zephrus in good condition ,i just paid £350 for a mint one , awesome rod .takes 38gram s/h
Well that’s a bargain! £50 for Hardy’s rod is amazing deal. I will be looking at new or second hand rods once the time comes.
@@Hookedonfly i made a typing error .it was 350
Still very good price 👍
Good rods James, however, I’m pretty sure for around the same money a good condition Hardy Zenith could be picked up. I’ve seen them on eBay quite often for £350-£400ish which for a rod that originally cost in the region of £1000 isn’t a bad buy considering they are simply casting machines! Tight lines for 2025! 🎣👍
I need to keep aye on that, that sounds like a great rod to cast. Tight lines! 👊
Do you have instagram?
I don’t have an instagram for fishing unfortunately
I've never seen a fly reel that big. That thing is a beast. What kind is it?
Haha yeah that one is huge! Loop classic 👍
What wt @@Hookedonfly
Hi Tam! You won a new follower! I am not still a salmon fisherman ,I don't want to burn the steps! I still stay focus on brown trout !. I live in Midlands and during the next Spring i would like to go on this beautiful river Tweed for a little trout trip. According to you, is there a lot of salmon flyfishermen in this season (maybe more October November?) and where is most interesting area for brown trout between mid of May/mid June?. I had a look on Fishpal and Peeblesshire seems to be a good area with a very long stretch ? Maybe less chances to cross salmon fans? Thank you for your help and any advices and tips are welcome. (Your accent is excellent ;) ) In the meantime I wish you an happy new year of course!
Hi Thanks for the subscribe! I used to fish for Brown trout and Grayling at Innerliethen, it’s under Peeblesshire as you mentioned. Very good trout water and no salmon anglers around early in the season. I’ve caught 6lb brown on my first day out there, what a monster! I don’t really fish for trout anymore after catching my first salmon but may have another go in the future. Tight lines! 👊
@@Hookedonfly Thank you for your reply!
No problem 👍
Enjoying your stuff. Nice to see a few takes from salmon on videos. Im gonna get back at em next year. Thanks for inspiring me.
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you like the videos. Not long before the season starts now. Tight lines! 👊
I felt that one mate. Gutted
Tell me about it 😂
Fantastic dog Tam, possible a touch distracting, love it.
She is great! I need to make an effort and take her fishing more so she can get used to it. It would be great to have her company on the bank
Great video and nice to watch, Had thought about having a go at kailzie this year but didnt get round to it maybe next year. Thanks for posting and tight lines
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Kailzie definitely have some nice water to offer, I will be back the next year my self. Tight lines
I think Salmon fishing in November should be restricted to the first week only, max. The salmon in this vid is extremely coloured, tartan looking, almost spent and really just need to be left alone to carry on the with its spawning journey. I am a 64 year old salmon angler myself and wisdom and experience now tells me that we shouldn't be fishing for these late/spawning ready salmon. Tight lines for 2025
Hi Mark As it says in the title this fish was caught in the middle of October. I definitely agree with what you said though, I wouldn’t personally fish for salmon after first week of November. Let them do their thing.. Tight lines 👊
I have to agree, maybe even the end of October. No real back end run like yesteryear and there were redds being cut in late October this year. The fish need leaving to there business
Awesome video. 👍😎
Thanks very much 👊
Well done, what a sparkling cock salmon, soon to become a daddy hopefully! Nick from York
Fingers very crossed 🤞 Thanks for watching Nick
Another cracking vid tam that 20lber will b yours next year
Thanks 🙏 Haha hopefully 🤞
Nice fish and Autumn colors😊
It really was, autumn is such a beautiful time of the year to be on a river
stunning place to fish at as well as the fish, loved the vid
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the video👍 Yeah, the fish was something else.
Absolute belter Tam 👏
Thanks mate 👍
What running line do you use bud?
I’m using Rio Autbound elite line
Aw man, I would have definitely panicked in this situation 😂😂 That looked like an absolute monster! You will get it next season Tam 👊
Haha thanks mate 👍
Brilliant film. 👏🏼
It’s very well done 👍
What lines are you using?
Rio Outbound elite
Tam, let go of that line, let the drag, that you preset do its work, thats a super reel, it will work 😢
I was actually trying to stop the fish going to fast water but yeah you are definitely right, no index finger needed.
@@Hookedonfly lol Sure! You're going to "stop a monster." Nah! The fish stopped you.
It definitely did 😅
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Real pity losing that big fish Tam! Is that one of the Greys GR60 salmon rods you are using? Good rods. A little heavier than some of the more expensive ones but powerful and handle any type of line or style of cast well. I have two of them I use regularly.
Thanks. Yes, it’s GR 60 indeed. Really like the rod and how you said really powerful and easy caster. I actually needed to warranty it just after 5 months of use as the cork was in pretty bad shape all ready.
@Hookedonfly Ah pity, the cork on both mine has been good. Glad you were able to claim on the warranty.
Maybe I was just unlucky, good rod anyway
Only once and never made that mistake again. I’m guessing you’ll be in the same boat.. 😂
Haha I’m glad it’s not just me 😂 I was actually surprised that the Fish dropped off after that hook set 🫣😂
Hook sharpen needed.
It definitely does! Need get sharpener for new season
As always, it's an awesome video. Sorry about the fish that comes off. 👍👊
Thanks very much 👍 That’s fishing, I will get the next one 👊
Unlucky Tam, that would have been an absolute belter! You have had a great season, hoping the same for next year too mate! 🤘🏻🎣
Thanks buddy, still gutted about that one but hopefully there will be another one waiting next season. Need to get some fishing organised next season 😉
@ I bet Tam, it looked like an absolute beauty! And definitely mate, what type of winter fishing do you do Tam?
I usually take a break from fishing but I’m pretty keen on having a go for Grayling this winter. What about your self?
@@Hookedonfly I’m the same as you Tam, I want to have a crack at the grayling also, never fished for them before but a pal of mine has quite alot of experience fishing for them so hoping he won’t mind me tagging along with him one day for them! Also would like to try a bit more sea fishing too during the winter
Great, I’m sure you will get few of them. Winter sea fishing sounds good, that’s when the big fish is kicking about right? I need to get sea trout another go next season, still want to get one
Unlucky Are you going to try the trout fishing at kalizie and film it?
Yeah maybe, I didn’t actually thought about that one.
