    Great video! I’m jealous. The Salmon run in New York is from early September to the end of October. Yours is just beginning. Keep pushin! It took me five trips and many lost hookups until I finally landed my first Salmon this past Fall. Every year you will learn you will learn much more. Good Luck to you and keep up with the video’s!

      Wow! Yeah that’s a bit different, our season is from early February to end of November.
      Well done on catching your first fish, hope you have a good season 👊

    Well done Thomas, you certainly gave it a good run through! Yes my (limited) knowledge of Cardrona is that it's quite a high beat to see fish that early in the season ...but you just never know! thanks.

      Thanks!
      The water was very high for a long time so I thought why not to give a try.
      Good day even without a fish, nice to get out this early in the season.

    Great video Tam! I’m usually down at Horsburgh at the back end of the season. Maybe bump into you some time 😊
    Keep the videos coming 👍👏🎣

      Thanks Robert,
      I actually watched your video from Horsburgh last year before I went there in November.
      It’s was super useful!
      If you are down my way and fancy a cast I would be up for that 👍

    Fished the Cardrona side the other day.
    No luck for me, but as you say very early on for the season up there. But wanted out and it was cheap.
    Onto Rutherford beat on Friday and we will see what it brings
    I’m praying

      Unlucky!
      I still believe there could be the odd fish kicking about.
      How you say, it’s good value as well.
      I may try to go back there in few weeks again.
      Good stuff, tight lines on Friday hope you get one.
      Im going back to Tweedwood next week, can’t wait!

      I would definitely recommend to fish the Tweed, some real monsters there.
      My first ever trout from there was 27 inches and 6lb!
      Don’t think I will ever beat that haha

    Nice video, considering u haven’t had any lessons your casting is pretty good. A couple of lessons will be a good investment. As many have said Cardrona or any of those beats high up in the spring there’s virtually no chance of a fish. Boleside mid tweed from April. Try some of the lower beats arround or including Ladykirk this time of year. The Whiteadder is good value and a chance of a springer. Good luck and tight lines 🎣🎣

    • @Hookedonfly
      @Hookedonfly  11 місяців тому

      Thanks, I’m glad you liked the video.
      I knew the chance of a fish is small up there but still wanted to give it a go. Will leave it for now until a bit later in the season.
      I just booked myself on Tweedswood for next week, hopefully some fish kicking about there.
      Ladykirk is just out of reach as I am trying to keep the fishing relatively low cost as I’m new to the sport and learning.
      Thanks very much for all the advice, much appreciated.
      Hope you have a good season, tight lines.

    • @Hookedonfly
      @Hookedonfly  18 днів тому

      Fishing much lower down this spring, Ladykirk, Pedwell for February.
      Although I did managed to get a springer last season at Horseburgh, probably the first one ever there haha

    Can you tell me something about this line, what model it is and whether you use heads for the line or only the line and leader

    • @Hookedonfly
      @Hookedonfly  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, for sure 👍
      It’s RIO scandi outbound
      I wanted something easier to cast as I’m new to the sport and this line definitely does the job for me.
      It’s one line with a running line attached to it, no loop to loop connection, no shooting heads, just attach a leader at the end and you are good to go 🙂
      Hope this helps, tight lines.

    Great vid. In my first season, in 2020 I caught 4 salmons, so the addiction started hard 😅 Unsuprisingly it has somewhat flatten out, with 1 salmon pr year, and last year 0. What rod lenght and size did you use on thoose early fisheries on the tweed? Greetings from Norway

    • @Hookedonfly
      @Hookedonfly  11 місяців тому

      That was a solid start, 4 fish on first season is great!
      I know what you mean by the addiction, I was hooked after my first one and there was no going back 😂
      I only have one rod at the moment 13.5ft 8/9 that will do me for now.
      Need to do some fishing first before buying more gear 😀
      I hope to come to Norway one day to fish but need to save up for that haha

    As an ex instructor, and winner of numerous casting competitions who now lives in the sunshine and haven't fished for 12 years .
    1st thing always carry your rod with the tip facing to the rear .
    Do you want to mainly spey cast or overhead cast ?
    I must say practise is what it's all about ,but practising the right cast .
    You could check out Hugh falkus who was a good friend of mine. His book or dvd on spey casting which is excellent, if you have any points that need clarification just drop me a line .

    • @Hookedonfly
      @Hookedonfly  11 місяців тому

      Impressive!
      Yes, it’s mainly Spey casting I’m after
      I’m ok with over head casting, I think 🙂
      Thanks I will check it out and hopefully I learn something haha
      That’s very kind of you, I may take you up on it, thanks

    • @michaelnewton5483

      @@Hookedonfly maybe if you near water you can practise both single and double spey and both reversed which are very useful depending on wind direction.

    • @michaelnewton5483
      @michaelnewton5483 11 місяців тому

      @Hookedonfly than learn both with a single handed rod which with a single haul will achieve 30yds easy. Great for sea trout .
