Good video, covering difficult topics. The one thing that absolutely confounds me is how many salmon anglers jump on planes multiple times a year creating huge carbon footprints when we know a warming climate and water is taking its toll not just on our salmon population. Ive decided to fish the best beats in the UK rather than chasing silver overseas.
Man made climate change is bullshit and just just another way of controlling the masses, I swim in the sea a lot and I assure you it's not getting any warmer.
Well that’s an angle on this that I have never have thought about really. Plenty of fantastic fishing here in Scotland and Uk in general indeed. I guess the places like Iceland for example are very attractive as a bucket list destination. Good on you for sticking local 👍 Tight lines!
@ sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Very easy to pick up on palpable facets of the plight of salmon like predation. The human mind often underestimates macro issues due to lack of education, complexity and the seemingly small incremental nature of warming. In geological terms it’s rapid and significant.
Its heartening to know people like Philip who are passionate about the Salmon and doing what they can to improve their habitat but it goes beyond that. Im from England and fish the upper River Lune. In the past 4 years I have caught 1 Salmon and seen only 3 more. It is heartbreaking and a tragedy to see this beautiful River decline so much. It was I believe one of the best Rivers in England over 100 years ago. Imo our Government and the EA do not care one iota about it, how can they when they deliberately pollute the water with raw sewage? This to me is tantamount to a criminal act, and they should be jailed imo. These people care only about money and giving themselves huge bones in the process!! It is a disgrace, but I cant see it changing anytime soon unfortunately
Most of the most prolific beats are out of price ranges of your ordinary working man hence angler's travelling from all over the world to fish them and usually wealthy land owners owning them looking for government money and volunteers to keep there fishing business viable maybe if these were more accessible to general public for fishing instead of dead man's shoes more of general public would care and know about the Atlantic salmon decline more inclusive in my view would be more help
Salmon fishing is definitely very very expensive and nobody can say it isn’t. I would never have thought personally that I would ever fish for salmon because of the cost but they are ways of doing it. Plenty of quality club waters for a reasonable cost and even those very expensive beats are an ok price if you don’t fish in back end of the season. But yeah, you definitely right 👍
We’re lucky to have some decent association waters in Scotland ,tam come up and fish the forres AA in the findhorn hit me up and il look after you for a day
Great video tam have seen salmon fishing at its best when you could walk across them in the rivers 20 .30 40 years ago you would take action against predators that were causing problems on the rivers now you can't say boo to them without people reporting you and these people have no idea about wildlife and how to manage it we.kept diaries of catches back then and salmon would go on a 5 to 6 year cycle you would have a great season then next would be not as good and so on then bang back to normal
Wow, very different then and now sadly. If we can’t protect the fish from predators as we used to, that may just answer the question on declining numbers of the fish. Everyone knows that the birds are big issue but it seems impossible to take any action these days…sad.
How many of the fish in the fish caught statistic were actually caught more than once therefore giving a false picture of the total number of fish returning to spawn?
The elitist nature of salmon fishing in Scotland doesn't help. Lots more public free access water would help. In Michigan, I can float or wade every stream or river in the state.
Brilliant film. 👏🏼
It’s very well done 👍
An interesting and enjoyable film that raises a rallying cry that the politicians must hear and act on positively and strongly.
Fingers crossed that will happen sooner rather than later!
Thanks for watching, tight lines!
Tam, excellent video, well put together. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, good video indeed.
Well done to all involved
An excellent, very informative video.
Yes, it’s really good video.

Very well put together brilliant commendable hope the Scottish government take note and do more 👍
Fingers crossed 🤞

It’s sad what’s happening to our rivers and only few ppl are caring really.
This needs to improve immediately before is too late!

I would be very interested having a day or two in findhorn, it looks mega!
Is it not hard to get on though?
@@Hookedonfly 10 day tickets available in fishpal for the forres beat and I have a couple of contacts up river
Good to know thanks mate, need to have a look 👍

No way!
Free fishing is good fishing in my books, specifically for salmon.
How busy does it get on the river?
@@Hookedonfly very busy,
I would personally rather pay for private beat and enjoy my fishing with limited numbers of anglers on the riverbank then free crowded water.
@@Hookedonfly I sometimes pay a guide to float isolated, uncrowded river stretches, but easy access is still nice. Europe's has older traditions.
It’s definitely good to have a both option 👍
