Another insight is this. The directional arrows on my skyportal app failed to operate. I was beyond frustrated. After watching this video and seeing you work those directional arrows, I finally came to the realization that thenspeed control slider which was set mid way on the green bar was actually the zero point! Once I moved the position dot along the slider, I got directional motion control. Big relief.

Dear Mr Mike Fowler, thank you for this video of yours. I also watched your video of the new Vixen SDX2 mount, which I bought about 3 months ago. HERE'S MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH IT: ( Vixen SDX2 ): Let's say that in my case, at the beginning after changing the language, I entered the time and date data, year, I entered the GPS coordinates of the place in North Switzerland where I am. I also did a very accurate polar pointing, with the polar sight, which I found very practical. Let's say that, the counterweight bar, which is inserted inside the DE axis, yes, is a novelty, ü practical. However, every time I turn it ON and move the tube in a westerly direction to let the mount know that I'm observing from the northern hemisphere, it's always a bit of a disaster. I don't know why, but I have to open the DE release lever to get the polar pointing clear. It is also a bit strange to me that the GO HOME position, is that the tube of my Refractor, has to stay in the West position, and not towards the polar star. However, I know this by now, after turning the mount OFF, I open the DE axis, and position the refractor towards the polar star, before turning the mount ON, I position the refractor again towards the West, so the mount as soon as it is turned ON, it finds the position it had before. I do this most of the time when the mount is fixed on the pillar on the balcony. But when I am in the field, it goes faster. At first, I had done the ALIGN/ENTER system backwards. Then, after receiving the instruction book in German, and through another video here on UA-cam, I discovered that I have to do the ALIGN system after having centred a star and confirmed it with ALIGN/ENTER. A week ago, I did an ALIGN/ENTER alignment, first I looked for a star, enlarged the chart on the Starbook Ten, I realised that to be able to centre at low speed, first you have to do a very large magnification, you can well centre the object inside the eyepiece I use with Double Illuminated Reticle a 12mm. After centering it well, I pressed the button: ALIGN, and confirmed with ENTER. I was in the field, then after reading in the instruction book, that to make the system work at its best, as many as 20 stars can be configured with the key: ALIGN/ENTER. I managed to make 15 stars with ALIGN/ENTER. In fact, after centering the star is confirmed with ALIGN/ENTER, the star with the small cross moved within the two circles. Checking the illuminated reticle of the 12mm, the star remained in the centre. However, in other cases during the 15-star ALIGN/ENTER setting, the small cross after doing ALIGN/ENTER, did not move into the centre of the two circles. I tried again two or three times, but nothing. I find that the ALIGN/ENTER system does not always work. I explained the matter to my dealer where I bought this nice, lightweight, well-built mount. For me having an astro Physics Traveler 105mm, a maximum load of 15Kg is more than enough. With it I move around the field with the E-Bike cart, without any problem of big cases or weight or volume. Fantastic mount I would say. My dealer, he told me, that 15 stars was too much. But he told me not to do more than 2 or 3 Stars ALIGN/ENTER confirm. Last night, I tried with only three stars I performed the ALIGN/ENTER. After that I started a Messier Object Search Tour or Planets or Double Stars. Well, I can't say even if the initial three stars of ALIGN/ENTER, certainly not the objects I searched for were in the center or near the center of the field of view of my AP_Traveler 105mm with 610mm focal length and the 12mm DOUBLE illuminated reticle eyepiece. certainly can't say it was near the center square of the illuminated reticle, but at a distance of two or four squares of the illuminated reticle. I thought then, as that I looked for more objects, and placed them in the center of the illuminated grating, I did up to 7-Objects again ALIGN/ENNTER. Basically, this evening, I will do a full reset, which brings me to the Japanese configuration. is after doing all the place and date settings, I will do a 3-Star ALIGN/ENTER again, but all the other objects, which I search for and move them to the center of view with the Traveler, I will no longer do ALIGN/ENTER. I would like to understand, if the mount is accurate enough with 610mm focal length and 12mm illuminated reticle, if it can at least center all objects almost in the center of the field of view. Honestly, I still cannot say that the mount is 100% accurate in centering objects. ( Maybe after buying it needs a Software update? Is one, is where I can find the Link? I have been looking for the ASCOM/Vixen SDX2 system, but haven't found it yet. I just hope, that I can center objects accurately, I have I will be forced to sell like I did with the Celestron CGX-L after 4 months I bought. Thank you for your video, is I hope to quickly solve the tests I explained. Best regards, from Switzerland North. Cesare.

IF you are using an SCT which has a focal length of F10 - you will in all probability not be able to obtain focus with the .5 Focal Reducer which comes with the R2 assembled on the R2 lens port. Best option would be to use a focal reducer designed for the SCT. If you try adding the R2's focal reducer - don't be surprised if the SCT's focuser does not have enough range to bring the image into focus.

Hi Mike, I hope you're still monitoring this UA-cam video. Great job! ......Some questions please: I have the EVO6 and purchased a ZWO 183 camera for bright object image collection and stacking. Can I connect the camera to one of the scope's auxiliary ports for power and WiFi to a tablet along with general scope operation? I understand that traditional camera operation uses a laptop with Windows astro software. But, it would be slick if I could use a tablet wirelessly for the scope and the camera. I assume there's collection and stacking software for Android tablets (recommentions?). I have a Samsung S6 128 tablet that may allow two apps to run on the screen at the same time.
