Awesome. My grandfather is buying me one of these for my birthday in January. I live in Redlands, CA. So excited to actually be able to go to your store to pick this up. Looking forward to seeing your store and all the different scopes and accessories you guys have. And I love that I will be able to actually come to your store if I ever run into a problem.
thank you for the video! We've never even put a telescope in the past and the shipped user manual is not written well at all. Without your video, we would have lost!! Thank you.
Thank You Sir...Excellent Presentation...You make it easy for us Newbies with a New Evolution 9.25 telescope.... your Presentation is Definitely MORE BETTER...MUCH MUCH MORE BETTER...(: Seriously I enjoy your presentations immensely ...
Very interesting developments with this new scope. First off, the mount has the ports closer to the tube. The mount is taller which enables clearance which the 8 SE does not provide with a 2" diagonal. I love the built in level on the tripod!!! I love the fact that you can move this mount easily with your hand left or right, up and down. I really would like to see the tracking on this new setup. Mike, thank you for taking the time to put this together. Really like your enthusiasm and the time you put into this.
Mike, I wish more companies out there put in similar efforts with the astronomy gear they sell. Your video provided far more insight than the Celestron Web Site and even some of the forums out there provided! Thanks again!
Hi, I am think of acquiring this scope. May I ask if it is ok to put a T-ring and mount a DSLR adapter behind this OTA on the evolution mount? I'm worried it'll be overloading on the motor? Or just adjust the balance with the dovetail and it'll be ok?Thank you for your time.
The 9.25" model comes with 40mm and a 13mm eyepieces. If you were to recommend an additional eyepiece, what would it be? Or what would you two additional pics be - one for viewing within solar system and one for deeper-space objects?
Hi Kent, Usually the two things I recommend for the Evolution 8" and 9.25" are a 2X barlow, so then you would have the equivalent of a 40mm, 20mm, 13mm and 6.5mm eyepiece and the Baader 1.25" Moon and Skyglow filter, this helps increase the contrast of many deep sky objects due to urban sprawl and the Moon. I've got a real love hate relationship with the Moon, it's beautiful and has a ton of detail and is fun to show people where we have landed, but man it is bad for deep sky viewing and the filter helps. Don't hesitate to call or email anytime if we can help, truly it's our mission! - Mike
Mike, is the use of a wedge (like the Celestron HD Pro Wedge) needed to do basic astrophotography with the Celestron Evolution series? Will the Altazimuth mount that accompanies these compensate for star movement or is a wedge recommended for this type of scope/mount?
Mr. Fowler, I realize this video is 8+ years old but I am hoping you or someone else reading this can tell me where to get the "holster" for the controller that attaches to the leg of the tripod? The little plastic hook/holder on my new Celestron 6SE broke the second time I tried to hang the controller on it. I have seen other scopes with aluminum holders that also attach to the tripod leg.PLEASE can someone tell me where I can order one of those holders? Thanks in advance! - John
Which would you say is a better buy the NexStar Evolution 8 or the NexStar 8SE ? I've seen great reviews from the SE and the evolution as well ,so im torn , thank you Mike
From what I can see, The NexStar 8SE has the same 8-inch (200mm) aperture. In comparison to the SE series, the Evolution series includes WiFi connection to your smart device (IOS and Android), a heavier tripod, and the in-built lithium-ion battery. Hope this helps?
Hi Lawrence, you must keep the Altitude and Azimuth locks tight once you align the telescope. You can use the hand_controller or smartphone/tablet app to move the telescope anywhere in the sky though. It works very well!
Not much info available about the Evolution series on the web yet. Thanks for posting this. Kinda of undecided between the 6" and 8". I assume the mount and tripod are the same, just the optical tube? How much do you lose with the 6" on deep sky objects? Looking fwd to your full review.
Hi Evan, If you can afford the 8" I don't think you would ever regret it. I think the one place where it may not matter too much is if you lived in a very dense city environment and never wanted to take it anywhere darker. But anywhere mildly darker than downtown, even the brighter Messier Objects show a ton more detail in the 8" scope, as the area is much much larger. Hope that helps and I hope we can earn your business ;-) -Mike
Not odd at all! Yes, so if you decide to advance into longer exposure deep sky astrophotography you do not have to buy everything again! - Don't hesitate to call if you have any in depth questions, truly happy to help ;-)
Orange County Telescope Thanks for the info! I was thinking on getting an Celestron VX or a CPC, but the more research I really like the NexStar Evolution. Now I just need to decide between the 8" or 9.25" scope. Not sure what I will lose in getting the 8" over the 9.25".
Hi John, You can look at our how to connect to the Wifi video and hear for yourself, but personally I think it sounds very robust and not too loud at all. - Mike at Orange County Telescope
Suhayl Mahomed Hi, better could be easier and faster to setup like the Evolution or better could be for astrophotographic purposes which the VX mount would be better for. But both can do both!
Hello Mike , I'm from Brazil and I am seriously considering going to the usa buy this telescope 8 " . I intend to bring it to the plane. I wonder what measures this Telescope including its Optical Tube (OTA ) + Arm + tripod because I intend to bring the OTA in hand luggage . Do you think I can ?
Hi Mike. I bought a C5 Nexstar system from your store about 15 years ago but had to sell it when I moved to downtown LA for college. I now have a house up in NorCal with very little light pollution and would love to get back into astronomy. My budget is a bit bigger this time around and I was giving a close look at the 8" EDGE HD with CGEM DX mount. Now that I see this video with Celestron having a new line coming out soon I'm thinking I should hold off for a month or two. In the last 15years I've also become an amateur photographer so I would like to go with an equatorial mount this time around. Will this new Evolution series have an equatorial counterpart?
Hi Sean, Sorry for the late reply I did reply once from my phone but obviously it never made it here!! Celestron is coming out with a new version of the SkyQ link that will allow you to plug this adapter into say a CGEM DX mount have be able to use the SkyPortal wireless app with the mount. Celestron tells me it should be here late October. Nice to type to you, hope you can make it in someday or call anytime ;-)
Thanks for the video. Do you think this is one of the best Telescope for this price range? As a beginner I'm looking for a simple yet good solution. Cheers!
Agreed, there are so many future possibilities and great views to be had. It may be the last telescope you ever buy even if you become a "hard core" astronomer!
Hi Sean, Wow where does the time go! I'd like to talk with you a little more in depth about what your expectations are for you images, 8x10's or scientific research etc.. The Evolution is designed for ease and upgrading into "Lite Astrophotography", however as technolgy gets better and better the photo capabilities will increase for sure, and I'm speaking about deep sky objects, the Moon and Planets are targets for this telescope, no problem. The CGEM DX, takes a little more to align, then more perfectly align to North Celestial Pole, but for imagining it's the bomb dot com ;-) As you are tracking using 1 motor in Right Ascension and can add plug in a autoguider. Not as easy, but for imaging it's rock solid. Call me or email me Sean! I look forward to helping and watching your images get better. - Mike octelescope.com

Awesome Video as always Mike!!
I may get one of those. My 24 year old Nexstar 8 broke. Electronics quit. Mirror still ok. Thanks for the video.

I think I just found my first telescope. Great video. I can't wait to order me one!
Can't wait to see aliens on the moon!
They’re under the ocean
@@nicholasviewey4203 Haha True..
Don't forget to have Mike order you the new 180° Illuminated 10 Million Candle Power Reticle to see the dark side of the moon where they also live :]

How do you put on plastic hand controller holder?
Nirvana to be surrounded by so many brilliant amateur scopes :-)
Are there eye correction add -ons for glass wearers to put in front of the eyepiece?
Mike, can this telescope be left set-up long term, or is it recommended that it be disassembled between uses to take weight off the mount arm?
+Mike Fowler Whats the height of the tripod? When its on minute 2:26

Good evening. Is it normal for evolution 8 "to have a gap in the assembly, where the ota is attached?

There are several types available on ebay www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=celestron+hand+controller+holder+Evolution+&_trksid=p2380057.m4084.l1313

wonder if there's encoder so that when the clutch is disengaged, the computer still know the mount's position?

This is a bit of an odd question, can the tube on the Celestron Nexstar Evolution be mounted on other tripods such as the Celestron Advanced VX mount?

How is the sound of the mount compared to the 8 SE? Some people complain about the sound of the SE being too loud.

Good video. I am going to save my pennies and get this at some point. They improved some many things over the Nexstar SE series.
You will love it!

I have not handled this one, but I'd say yes. I have a Nexstar SE series and this one looks like it fixed many of the shortcomings.
