  • The new Celestron Advanced VX mount was easy to set up and looks to be heavy duty enough for astrophotography, 2 thumbs up!

Love my AVX, I usually have my C6 or 80mm APO on it, but I've also put an astro club member's C11 on it... works fine for visual, wouldn't have the guts to do imaging at max payload though ;)

    Great Video!
I have heard nothing but great reviews for this mount! I have read hundreds of them from all over and 99% are all five star ratings with just a couple complaints regarding the gummy clutches...
I just purchased my Advanced VX 8 that comes with the SkyPortal Wifi Adapter today. I added the GPSync and 5 (amp) AC power adapter since it was cheaper this way. I just wish I had good credit because it would have been easier than trying to save all this money up all at once. The downside to bad credit! :( However mine is finally on its way! Yay..............!
Now my next purchase will be the Orion Magnificent Mini Auto Guider to complete my package or some kind of auto guider device. Just wish companies offered some kind of layaway or in house monthly financing plan.

Fike Mowler! Nice intro video buddy. Can you please take one when slewing/gotoing to get a sense of the noise level?

Hi Mike. Will the Celestron Advanced VX work with the Celestron StarSense Autoalign so that a person can have automatic alignment capability?

Hi, not an expert with this but I'm pretty sure the StarSense AutoAlign will work with the scope. You can always go to Celestron's website and submit an inquiry for a factual answer.

Do you think this mount is adequate for the 11 inch OTA? And is it possible to visit your shop and see this combo in person?

      Hi Eric,
It does work and is good at low power and for visual. At higher power and for any imaging purposes, I would look for a heavier mount like the CGEM. We do have a VX mount with several Optical Tubes to show it with, but we do not normally have that combo on display.
      Happy to help!
      Mike

+Mike Fowler Thanks Mike, that's helpful. I want to get the 11 inch (I have an 8 inch newt and want more aperture). Since I can't afford the CGEM and the 11 inch OTA together, I have to decide if I want to get the regular fork mount and a wedge later on, or the VX mount now and the CGEM later on. As a professional photographer, I'm pretty sure I'll get into astroimaging, so I don't want to handicap myself with what I can do later, you know? But for now I have to keep it around $3,000.

Can you use in 0 degrees latitude? what happen if you put 0 degrees ?

    • @mikefowler7358

The weight would hit the tripod leg, so making a pilar or setting up the tripod unlevel (tipping hazard) would be a crude solution

@@mikefowler7358 thanks for the answer. do You think that the vx works fine, with one of those options. Im thinking seriously of have one un the next months, but i live in Ecuador 🇪🇨 (My Home is 0°17' 😅

@@chulpitostados I have heard of customers setting up 20 degrees off level (put weight on the longer legs so the telescope doesn't tip over or move) then polar alignment will be difficult because either will be hidden on the horizion, but either drift align or use a camera and something like sharpcap to help you align would work well!
