Another insight is this. The directional arrows on my skyportal app failed to operate. I was beyond frustrated. After watching this video and seeing you work those directional arrows, I finally came to the realization that thenspeed control slider which was set mid way on the green bar was actually the zero point! Once I moved the position dot along the slider, I got directional motion control. Big relief.
@@Rick-or2kq Pity that the hand controller and SkyPortal snarl at each other. Between the two, I defer to the app. The disadvantage of the app is that things go bump in the night...expensive fall for a tablet of smart phone.

Sir...I have a problem with my 9.25 evolution mount and scope....I recently purchased the 9.25 evolution and star sense...The problem I have is the telescope is too big for the Fork Arm of the amount in that it will not reach zenith..straight up and down...during the star sense alignment phase..I do have the scope set forward hoping for clearance but no success .I want to use the 9.25 but maybe forced to go to an 8 inch scope to replace the 9.25...Do you know of a solution for this zenith situation...Have others experienced this prob;lem? Hi Willis, Thank you! I'm glad you like the Imager, we have so much fun with ours! The 9.25" Optical Tube is a bit longer, so you can move the whole tube forward in the "jaw" to gain enough clearance when pointed straight up. It is a little front heavy but Celestron has assured us and experience to date has shown this is not a problem when using or any undo strain on the motors. The motors are very strong! Mike

Hi Mike, I hope you're still monitoring this UA-cam video. Great job! ......Some questions please: I have the EVO6 and purchased a ZWO 183 camera for bright object image collection and stacking. Can I connect the camera to one of the scope's auxiliary ports for power and WiFi to a tablet along with general scope operation? I understand that traditional camera operation uses a laptop with Windows astro software. But, it would be slick if I could use a tablet wirelessly for the scope and the camera. I assume there's collection and stacking software for Android tablets (recommentions?). I have a Samsung S6 128 tablet that may allow two apps to run on the screen at the same time. This is a big ask, but I think a lot of EVO owners would be interested. Thanks for any help you can provide, Michael.
Fantastic video! I was hoping you might be able to share your opinion. I'm a college student so I don't have tons of money to throw around. However, I have always been fascinated with space and would like to get into astronomy. I've been doing some research and was looking into the Celestron SE series. Would you consider the Evolution worthy of the price increase. I haven't been able to find a ton of information about improved optics over the SE series. Just the extra wifi features, improved tracking, etc. Also, would you recommend the 6" for a beginner. Or just go with a 8" up front? Thank you for your time! Hi Kyle, Thanks and great questions! The Evolution is just that, it has evolved better brass worm gears from the SE a rechargeable 10 hour battery and more stable tripod and fork arm among just a few of the important improvements. The optics however are the same superb optics. If I was interested in photography and had a limited budget I would rather get the 6" Evolution over the 8" SE, that's tough for me to say! If I could afford the 8" Evolution I would get it in a heartbeat, but I know its tough on a budget. If I was not interested in imaging at all, then the Nexstar SE 8" may be everything you ever wanted? Don't hesitate to call me if you like, happy to help however we can! - Mike
Orange County Telescope I'm definitely interested! I might be giving you guys a ring. I'm interested in the idea of dabbling in some astrophotography. Which is why I've slowly been leaning towards the advanced vx mount. Even though its more, I'd rather buy what I need up front than not be happy six months down the line. What do you think about the 8" edge hd vs the 9.25 regular edge. I'm kinda lost on that one. On one hand the bigger aperture equals more light. On the other you get hd optics. I'm thinking of doing more deep space photography if that matters. What would you do?

Hey Mike, thanks for posting these evolution videos. I figure I will probably spring for one sometime down the road. I was wondering though if you could measure the distance between the center of the dovetail saddle (essentially the altitude rotation axis) and the top of the mount tray to see what the total clearance distance is. I'm thinking that I might be able to also put my SV110ED refractor on there when in binoviewer mode. The tube is a few inches shorter in binoviewer mode, and the weight of my Denk IIs and panoptic eyepieces shifts the balance point so far backward that the mounting rings are as far back on the optical tube as they can possibly go. It would be sweet to be able swap out the SCT with my 110mm refractor at times. I would only need about 8" of clearance to put the 110ED scope on there in a balanced configuration when in bino mode. Probably less than that if I didn't extend the dew shield much. Thanks!

I can estimate approx 14 inches, this is a rough guess adding the approximate extra back clearance from the Nexstar SE, so just a rough guess. I wish it was me! If it is anything over 12", that is great though. It will easily hold my 110ED in binoviewer mode then or shorter refractors in standard mode. With luck I will be able to get one of these with a C9.25 later this year.
Wow! Looks like I'll be purchasing another telescope. I like this one but gonna take time to save up for it. I want the 9.25 I have the small celestron nexstar 4 with xlt. I have star sense and use it with CPWI software to align my telescope. it works great! I also have an NexImage 5 cam however I've not found out what mount I need to get so I can mount it to the end of the telescope. Anyone out there know? So, thanks for the video... Great job. Great thanks! Once aligned in a specific position on say your back porch, do you have to realign everytime or will it remember your previous setup and you can continue from there with the new date/time?
The SkyPortal App must be installed on your Android or iPhone devices. I prefer to open the App first but it don't really matter if you switch the WiFi on on the scope then open the App. I have the 9.25", you can see it on my UA-cam channel Notts boy24
NICE VIDEO. I have a question. Well, since most phone and tablets have GPS modules and can detect your position - why not use it and make alignment without any 2-3 star procedure. If you pair your tablet with the telescope via wifi, simply put it on the scope - and have telescope register the gps position from the tablet. As I understand more expensive models with GPS modules integrated do not need 2-3 star alignment procedure? Or is this possibility simply avoided on purpose just so we purchase more expensive models with GPS integrated? :)
Hi Dalius, common question for sure! The GPS only narrows your position down to an approximate 8 foot circle around your location, pretty good but not near accurate enough for any telescope to know exactly where it is pointed. All the "GPS" telescopes require you (or in the case of the Star Sense then the camera takes a picture) to center stars for its final exact position. Hi, Lots of customers go to either Home Depot for their larger rolling toolboxes or the Walmart type stores for the larger storage bins. Use the foam that's included with the original shipping boxes for a perfect fit!

Mike, is there an internal GPS or is that on the smart device or do you need to enter manually on setup. Secondly, if the Lithium battery does go the way of the dodo are replacement batteries available to replace or is it inbuilt and non relaceable. Thirdly if you add a wedge for astrophotography how stable is the stand compared with the larger CPC tripods and what wedge fits this new scope.
Hi Chris, The GPS comes from your smart device. If you are using it without this, just using the handcontroller, then you can either enter your location or it has a very easy to use "City Database" just enter the nearest town to your location and it works like a champ!

i have a problem with my cosmos 90 gt Im just a beginner to electric mounts and all that and i tried connecting it to sky portal and it keeps saying that it receives a signal and that it may not be compatible scope yet it says to download the app on the box and i have no idea what to do from here
You would need to buy a Camera. Most 4K cameras are not as good at "seeing" faint objects, you likely want both resolution and good signal for faint photons. Mike - ocTelescope@gmail.com

Hi, Yes you can use the handcontroller to operate the telescope or you can use the WiFi connection to any Apple iOS or Android device using Celestrons SkyPortal app. Either way you can use all the features of the telescope! hope that helps! Hi, there are 2 modes, direct connect or access point where you link it to your home wifi. I do not see any security settings for direct connect and your home access point connection would have the same security you currently would have in place. Looking at the manual they show the Wifi access name as SkyQlink-34 alluding to at least 34 channels or more as later in the manual they show SkyQlink-XX, so possibly 99 channels. I have purchased the Evolution 9.25 but having a really hard time with alignment. I have used objects like the moon and two planet. I have also used a group of stars that were close together but it keeps failing. I tried just connecting to the telescope, without align, and pointed directly at the Moon and told it to align and it tells me the object is not within the range of the telescope? The little bulls eye is in the complete and opposite direction as the way the scope was facing. I have reinstalled the software but same results. My location is correct on my tablet and my phone so any advise?

So this scope has built in control via onboard wifi but still requires the pain in the arse alignment...unless you want to spring for the StarSense. The Meade LS levels itself, finds north and aligns itself but has no wifi capability...unless you purchase the wifi module accessory. Is there some reason these guys can't make a scope that auto aligns, has GPS and wifi?
Hi Tim, I would estimate that it is 75% as stable as the CPC 800, more than enough for almost any use including short exposure "stacking" types of deep sky imaging! The best telescope has been the one that gives the best view ( light gathering ), that fits a Fun price range, that is most easily moved and transported. The Evolution series is MUCH easier to move and transport, so I would not consider it lacking stability. I would consider it matching modern imaging technology and consumer experience. In doing so Celestron made both the mount and tripod lighter, for increased stability with the heavier and longer focal length 9.25" optical tube, celestron includes the heavier tripod.

I was thinking about upgrading to this scope *the 9.25*, but talking to an *experienced astronomer* he said the scope I have (flogging on fleabay atm is better because of the higher quality lenses)? Anyone know if this would be the case? Long story short its a Moonraker (galaxy class) with "JAPANESE VIXEN Optics sealed MgF2 coated achromatic lens" This is the scope www.ebay.com.au/itm/132032063443?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Said that although my image is smaller its sharper? I think you are asking the difference between a 4" Apo Refractor and a 9.25" SCT? They are both excellent telescopes, though a faint galaxy or nebula will often look much better and larger in the 9.25" SCT. There are many factors, but that's often the condensed version.

Wait if the telescope is connected to the app surely it can tell where it is so you don’t have to align manually? Wow all this technology and you still have to align manually.
Hi Cockney, There are several options! Remember you are just pointing to any 3 objects in the sky that are not a Plane, Helicopter or Satellite, just center any 3 objects and press align and you are done. That's how most people go about aligning and it's pretty easy honestly. OR - Add the StarSense technology for just over $320 (call and we will make you a kit price if you want to add it in!) then press a button and go make yourself a drink, when you return the scope is aligned!!

I find those difficult to get use too compared to the hand controller, they have not given me any trouble working thou. 8SE with wi-fi dongle.

Hi, if you do not move the telescope and put it in sleep mode it will remember. If you move it or shut it down all the way it will not
I assume that if you were inside a planetarium it would actually "fond" the correct stars as projected!

The SkyPortal App must be installed on your Android or iPhone devices. I prefer to open the App first but it don't really matter if you switch the WiFi on on the scope then open the App. I have the 9.25", you can see it on my UA-cam channel Notts boy24
NICE VIDEO. I have a question. Well, since most phone and tablets have GPS modules and can detect your position - why not use it and make alignment without any 2-3 star procedure. If you pair your tablet with the telescope via wifi, simply put it on the scope - and have telescope register the gps position from the tablet.
As I understand more expensive models with GPS modules integrated do not need 2-3 star alignment procedure?
Or is this possibility simply avoided on purpose just so we purchase more expensive models with GPS integrated? :)
Hi Dalius, common question for sure! The GPS only narrows your position down to an approximate 8 foot circle around your location, pretty good but not near accurate enough for any telescope to know exactly where it is pointed. All the "GPS" telescopes require you (or in the case of the Star Sense then the camera takes a picture) to center stars for its final exact position. Hi, Lots of customers go to either Home Depot for their larger rolling toolboxes or the Walmart type stores for the larger storage bins. Use the foam that's included with the original shipping boxes for a perfect fit!

Mike, is there an internal GPS or is that on the smart device or do you need to enter manually on setup. Secondly, if the Lithium battery does go the way of the dodo are replacement batteries available to replace or is it inbuilt and non relaceable. Thirdly if you add a wedge for astrophotography how stable is the stand compared with the larger CPC tripods and what wedge fits this new scope.

The GPS comes from your smart device. If you are using it without this, just using the handcontroller, then you can either enter your location or it has a very easy to use "City Database" just enter the nearest town to your location and it works like a champ!

i have a problem with my cosmos 90 gt Im just a beginner to electric mounts and all that and i tried connecting it to sky portal and it keeps saying that it receives a signal and that it may not be compatible scope yet it says to download the app on the box and i have no idea what to do from here

You would need to buy a Camera. Most 4K cameras are not as good at "seeing" faint objects, you likely want both resolution and good signal for faint photons.

Hi, Yes you can use the handcontroller to operate the telescope or you can use the WiFi connection to any Apple iOS or Android device using Celestrons SkyPortal app. Either way you can use all the features of the telescope! hope that helps! Mike, as for the WiFi does it have a security feature so that only the owner can connect to the device or is it open to all?
Hi, there are 2 modes, direct connect or access point where you link it to your home wifi. I do not see any security settings for direct connect and your home access point connection would have the same security you currently would have in place. Looking at the manual they show the Wifi access name as SkyQlink-34 alluding to at least 34 channels or more as later in the manual they show SkyQlink-XX, so possibly 99 channels. I have purchased the Evolution 9.25 but having a really hard time with alignment. I have used objects like the moon and two planet. I have also used a group of stars that were close together but it keeps failing. I tried just connecting to the telescope, without align, and pointed directly at the Moon and told it to align and it tells me the object is not within the range of the telescope? The little bulls eye is in the complete and opposite direction as the way the scope was facing. I have reinstalled the software but same results. My location is correct on my tablet and my phone so any advise?
Make sure you don't have the scope tube on backwards. The arm should be on the left, like in the video.

There are products out there that will do this but the celestron version I do not believe is compatible.
So this scope has built in control via onboard wifi but still requires the pain in the arse alignment...unless you want to spring for the StarSense. The Meade LS levels itself, finds north and aligns itself but has no wifi capability...unless you purchase the wifi module accessory. Is there some reason these guys can't make a scope that auto aligns, has GPS and wifi?

Hi Tim, I would estimate that it is 75% as stable as the CPC 800, more than enough for almost any use including short exposure "stacking" types of deep sky imaging! The best telescope has been the one that gives the best view ( light gathering ), that fits a Fun price range, that is most easily moved and transported. The Evolution series is MUCH easier to move and transport, so I would not consider it lacking stability. I would consider it matching modern imaging technology and consumer experience. In doing so Celestron made both the mount and tripod lighter, for increased stability with the heavier and longer focal length 9.25" optical tube, celestron includes the heavier tripod.

Hi Again, Yes there is what I consider a significant difference from most locations. If you are in a downtown city lights setting then it would be less significant, but other than that if you looked through both you would hope to own the 8". - Mike

I was thinking about upgrading to this scope *the 9.25*, but talking to an *experienced astronomer* he said the scope I have (flogging on fleabay atm is better because of the higher quality lenses)? Anyone know if this would be the case?

I think you are asking the difference between a 4" Apo Refractor and a 9.25" SCT? They are both excellent telescopes, though a faint galaxy or nebula will often look much better and larger in the 9.25" SCT. There are many factors, but that's often the condensed version.

Hi Cockney, There are several options! Remember you are just pointing to any 3 objects in the sky that are not a Plane, Helicopter or Satellite, just center any 3 objects and press align and you are done. That's how most people go about aligning and it's pretty easy honestly. OR - Add the StarSense technology for just over $320 (call and we will make you a kit price if you want to add it in!) then press a button and go make yourself a drink, when you return the scope is aligned!!
