    Riverside/Riverside County 🙄 The bad luck central I swear I rather be homeless in OC than be living in Riverside County. My sister-in-law was killed in a car accident (guy clipped them from behind sending them onto incoming traffic). Because she is Hispanic no one really looked for a perpetrator. It's going to be 20 year since in Dec of 2025. No leads. Officer Ryan Bonaminio, poor kid. Gunned down right in the middle of a downtown mile or two from a courthouse. Crazy maniac that was picking ladies of the night on University. Dude, he had to fall into their lap for cops to finally take him off the streets after 13+ murders. 🤦‍♀️ I mean the guy was coming back in the same van picking up his victims on the same stretch of the road right in the downtown of Riverside!!! The level of incompetence or of IDGAF! And don't even want to bring up the Chicken Coop Murders. The monster had 20+ missing children in his coup and still the Riverside cops were the last one to know. Lesson learned. Stay away from RivCo

    Drew Dix was my uncle's commanding officer in Vietnam after winning the MOH. They served together in 1970-1971, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry (Airborne) 1971. I still have the letter then Capt Dix wrote to my grandparents explaining the details of his death.

    Has it really been so long since Viet Nam and Iraq and Afghanistan that one man can talk about the subject of war and the other seems to be from 100-200 years in the future. The emphasis on Roger Young’s hearing appears to be a way of diminishing his heroism by sluffing it off by intimating that he only kept failed to hear the order to stop.

    • @speakingofcouragepodcast8437
      @speakingofcouragepodcast8437 2 місяці тому

      Hello, and thanks for watching. I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. I served as an infantryman in Iraq so it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been so long for me. My partner never served in the military and the goal of the show was to relate stories of heroism to the uninitiated so he is filling that role. The emphasis on Roger Young’s hearing is a challenge he overcame, not a way to diminish his heroism. It’s a major part of his story along with his other health problems and an accurate telling of his heroism can’t be told without it. He’s an inspiration to the infantry as well as the hearing impaired, as his hearing was so bad he’s recognized by the deaf community. The Army didn’t use it as a way to diminish his heroism as they pushed through his MOH packet to ensure he received the award while many other deserving soldiers never received it. If you’re implying that -I- was trying to diminish his heroism I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion. The research for this episode included all military records and books i could find as well as narrative type stories and anecdotes from soldiers who were there. I included the point of view of Stanley Frankel which he related to a magazine. It was his version of events that included the statements that Roger said, “I’m sorry sir, but you know I don’t hear very well” We did our best to honor all the service members we profiled and told their stories as accurately as possible.

  • @wandapease-gi8yo
    @wandapease-gi8yo 3 місяці тому

    The Early National Guard was expected to be exactly what it says. It was to guard your home. Not expected to go overseas. Roger couldn’t hear well but the Army would have been far poorer and in danger. Guts count! So does Old Age and sneakiness!

    Your podcast with the detailed discussion of Audie Murphy's life and accomplishments is the best that I have had the pleasure of watching on any platform. Watched all 3 episodes in succession. I am a 70 y.o. Texan, Navy veteran and retired teacher. My father was a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Daddy was a hard man and not too much impressed him, but he made sure that my brothers and I understood who Audie Murphy was and how much he had done during the War. I was born in 1953 and enjoyed watching Audie Murphy in his movies back in the day. I am in awe of his acts of Valor. Your detailed explanations gave this old Audie Murphy fan more insight to his character and makes his story even more impressive. I didn't think that was possible. I just ordered a copy of the relatively new book about him entitled Audie Murphy Undercover which was written by an attorney at the behest of his eldest son, Terry Murphy. This book is about the 18 years that Audie worked doing undercover work for LAPD and other law enforcement organizations. It will be an interesting read; although, I do not know the veracity of its contents. Sadly, his youngest son, James Shannon "Skipper" Murphy passed this past year. Thank you again for this excellent podcast about the Texas Legend, Audie Leon Murphy.

    Let me add: the major factor working against the japaneezies was that they had been abandoned in that area, no supply chain, hungry etc. The big reason they kept attacking that area was to get food and supplies and hopefully break through to friendly strongholds in the north. Some of them only had bamboo spears.

    Just finished reading Phantom Warrior, recommended by my neighbor, an elderly veteran; good read! It made me wonder if J.R.'s "georgia cyclone" was what inspired the Georgia Cyclone rollercoaster at Six Flags here in Atlanta. Im from rural GA and it was the 2nd rollercoaster I rode as a kid, rickety old wooden one, recently decommissioned.
