Audio Murphy was the most highly decorated soldier in the US armed forces period.
No one else in US history even comes close to the number of commendations Audie Murphy earned.

    Love his westerns.

Me too! He always looked taller in his westerns, maybe because he was so tall when it came to get courage, grit and determination. I really admire him and I wish I could have met him. So sad that he died so young, no telling what more this man might have accomplished if he'd have lived.

Audie Murphy had the values of a real Texan. He was determined to do what was needed, no matter the consequences, within reason!

Audie Murphy is the most decorated in U.S. history. Earning every valor medal our country gives- BEFORE he was old enough to vote! Let that sink in!

Salute to Audie Murphy. I saw a video recently and a commenter made claims that Murphy had exaggerated his deeds. I always understood the opposite was true. It takes a unique kind of guy with special qualities to do what he did, and some of those qualities aren't really what people today understand from their armchair.

Thank you for checking us out and thank you for your comment.
In all the research I’ve done I would say Audie definitely downplayed his deeds. As far as MOH citations go, his has more eyewitnesses and accounts than the vast majority of actions that you come across.
I went into detail on it a little bit in parts 2 and 3 as there is so much info we couldn’t fit it into one episode!

I'd say that commenter didn't have a clue as to what he was talking about. I've read the affidavits of men who were there and saw him do those things, like standing on that burning tank and killing all those Germans. One Private who witnessed that, said "It was the greatest display of grit and courage he'd ever seen". You can find those documents on the Audie Murphy Memorial website. Look under documents. Audie was also very uncomfortable with the word Hero when applied to him, he said "there are lots of men who should have received metals, they were the one's who didn't come home, and those are the real hero's".

      God loves the infantry!
      Thanks for checking us out.
One of the reasons To Hell and Back is great is because it’s so relatable. Wars may change but the Infantryman stays the same.

Thank you for your awesome video's about Audie Murphy. I've watched a lot of video's about him and read a lot. But you video here about his homelife and what it was really like for him, is more informative than all of them. I've learned so much more from your video about this courageous man than I ever knew before. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We did our best to tell the whole story of Audie’s life. His difficult childhood played a large part in who he became.

Audie Leon Murphy is one of a kind, dignity and honor, as good as they come to a friend, to an enemy as bad as they come.

I feel that Audie’s upbringing has a lot to do with what he became later in life and is an important part of the story.

      Thanks, glad you like it!
I use a number of sources for every episode including books, old newspapers and websites.
For the Audie episodes I used books like To hell and back, The Price of Valor, Audie Murphy American Soldier, the Films of Audie Murphy, Hero- the life and death of Audie Murphy and several others.
The Audie Murphy historical society has a wealth of info on their website
I also have old newsletters from the Audie Murphy fan club which has a lot of personal insights and stories from men who served with him.
I was able to access many of the sworn statements written by soldiers attesting to his valorous acts as well as quite a few news articles from throughout his life and several documentaries produced over the years. I also have a personal collection of materials
I draw on that have period sources. We try to do our best to create an accurate well rounded picture of heroes.

@@speakingofcouragepodcast8437 I was honored to have an amazing tour guide, a friend took me all around the Audie sites in Texas, from cemeteries to where he was born/where the boxcar was/ even stood in the spot where he stood when when the news of Pearl Harbor reached him. Went to the post office where he enlisted and the station where he left for boot camp! It was unforgettable

We forgive Audie for that lie to get into the army as many lives on the American side he saved facing the enemy.
