Legions Imperialis BatRep Zero (Summary)
Great battle report! I kinda like these shorter quick reports.
I love the content you are creating, especially the tactic videos. Kdeep up the good work! Also I love the lore of the HH so I would love it if you dived into this.
though a discord server would be a good thing I think
@ Thank you for the kind words! Really glad to hear you're enjoying the channel, and rest assured that I will definitely do some lore videos as topics come to mind. As for a discord server, I go back and forth. I have to be a good steward of my time right now, and that might be something for when we're a little more established.
Geoff and you are painting machines! Great game, thanks for sharing. I’m still slowly plodding through all my marine infantry….
Thank you! We do try our best when it comes to painting. These battle reports help keep me motivated.
So seems like playing Mechanicum as allies to Solar Auxilia or Marines is the way to go, at least for now?
I think at points above 1000 it's going to be more or less required to ally in some Astartes or Solar Auxilia to your Mechanicum army simply because you won't have any air cover -- or even air defense -- without them.
I noticed a rules error around 8:40. After the Arvus lighters are shot down he mentions that he made lucky saves so only 1 ogryn died. However, if a model is embarked inside a flyer and the flyer dies, the models inside are automatically destroyed unless they have jump packs.
Thanks for that -- do you happen to have a page reference? I checked the transport rules when this came up in the game and must have missed it.
it’s on page 97 under the Embarking and Disembarking rules
@@johnsd3341 Thank you!
@@tacticaeimperialis But (im assuming) the Arvus transports were hovering, so the rule is not applicable.
@DOMdiriDOM This was part of an overwatch shot, so the transports were still Flyers when they were destroyed.
Finally a Mechanicum battle report!!! Ive been looking for ages!!!
Glad to have you with us! 😅Another Mechanicum batrep on the way tomorrow!
An excellent battle report!
Thanks very much 🙏
Skull in the blood drop - Angels Vermillion (more fatalistic version of Blood Angels). Painted pale skull - Mortifactors (death worshiping cannibals from eternal night savage world). Green ones - Sons of Medusa (techno-mystics that like mechanized heavy armor thrusts):)
Awesome. Thanks very much -- great to see the successor chapters getting some time in the spotlight.
14:06 sons of medusa. I wish it was raptors tho. God bless
Thanks! 👌
Your initial "How to Win" video was absolutely great and what got me to subscribe. The battle reports have also been great. It great to hear you are going to do more tactics videos. Great 1st year, looking forward to seeing what you create going forwards
Thanks very much for the kind words! I'm looking forward to the new year as well.
I'm a simple man. I see LI content and I upvote.
Just found your channel great work man. A man after my own heart
Thanks very much for the kind words. Glad to have you with us
I personally think battle reports are the strongest point of this channel. Being you I would put most of my effort into making them even better/interesting and this should help increasing your viewer-count. With the rest - I find it hard to believe that it would generate a lot of interest (but will cost you a lot of effort & time). I wish your channel all the best in 2025!
Thanks very much for the feedback and the good wishes. 🫡 We'll do our best to improve our battle reports, probably with better terrain and so forth. People do seem to like the current format, so I think improving the aesthetic appeal may help in that regard. I admit I am concerned that focusing too much on the battle reports might burn out the audience. Hopefully a decent balance between reports and tactics videos will keep people engaged.
🫡 looking forward to another year of great content. Yeh some tactics/unit reviews could be quite good especially for newer players etc. it’s always good to see different perspectives on units and lists. What you guys run in your bat reps are slightly different to what we see in my local group so it would be good to get a little perspective on what you guys are running and why.
Thanks for the feedback. 🫡 Would you like to see that perspective on our armies in a separate video, or as part of the battle report format?
@ maybe only a brief overview while going over the lists at the start, almost like I’ve taken this because x and y. Especially if it something new in the list either new to you guys or a new release. But for a more in depth dive I would maybe do a separate video. I don’t want to suggest adding too much more to your bat reps as is because you have them dialled in and it’s more time editing for you too. While I like the short format bat reps you guys are making I’m a sucker for a good hour or two long rep I can play while painting.
@ Thanks for the detailed feedback. We'll try to include a bit of tactica for each unit during our army overview portion of the battle report. As you say, nothing too extensive, but just enough to hopefully explain how we're going to use them on the table. I've thought about doing some longer form batreps at some point -- maybe a live stream? Something I'll have to think on, for sure.
Absolutely no reason to change your name. Especially if the other channel is inactive.
I probably won't, then. It would be a shame to lose it after I've grown so fond of it.
I've not watched any of your battle reports (yet?)... I find myself never in the mood for watching batreps online (not just yours!) but I love your other content.
You should try one. The format is very efficient and keeps things interesting and short. Edited well so it doesn’t drag out too much.
@@EMBEEization I will!
I'm glad to hear the other videos are enjoyable for you. I absolutely intend to continue producing videos in that style and on those topics.
Love the battle reports. I’d like to see some painting videos and tips too. The tactics stuff is great too - no one else seems to be doing this. Love Legions, keep up the good work!
Thanks very much! So glad to hear that you enjoy the videos. I'll hopefully be able to put out some painting and lore stuff in the next month or so.
I really enjoy your tactica talks. Battle reports are nice, but those are also available in other channels. I don't think there is any other channel discussing Legions Imperialis tactics in a detailed way as you do.
Thanks very much for the feedback. I look at the battle reports as a way to add some variety to the channel, and maybe more importantly a way to show some of the "theory" in action on the table. I do fully intend to keep talking about tactics and list building in their own dedicated videos.
I appreciate your grounded and 'realistic' approach to tactics and list building in the game. While I enjoy your battle reports I hope you will still produce the more theoretical videos on different detachments and formations, there don't seem to be many people making theory and analysis videos for Legions and would like to see more.
Thank you for the feedback. I definitely intend to continue the "theory" style videos -- as that is what I myself enjoy. I'm glad the battle reports are well received, but I think it will be good to keep a mix of content on the channel. Based on most of the comments I see here, it looks like that's what the viewers want as well.
@@tacticaeimperialis Glad to hear it. I like the idea of discussing viewer submitted lists as well. I've been doing quite a bit of list building and theory crafting to make both playable but also narratively logical lists and would love to see more of that sort of thing
@ Great suggestions. Thank you!
Thanatars are in contest with the Castellax for worst datasheets in the game. Thanatars cost 65 something points for 2 4+ wounds and 1 decent gun. Castellax are 35 points for 2 4+ wounds and an 8" gun on a 5" movement profile. I am busy converting my Castellax into Domitars by increasing their leg height and doubling up their guns. The Thanatars are just hopeless. Even if you give them transports (this is possible), they still aren't tough or threatening enough to matter. Thanks for posting a video of these models in action though. I am going to paint up my dark mech since they have access to infiltrate and models that can threaten something.
I'm not sure the prospect for the Thanatar is quite so bleak; they are slow, but when backed up with Battlesmith I think they have some decent durability. They could probably have done with a 3+ save, though! That said, I do agree about the Castellax. It makes no sense at all that they have the same points cost as a Domitar. The only difference seems to be the gun (and the grav hammer), and that missile launcher is a far better option than the bolt cannon. I'm only including them in my list because I have the models, and if nothing else they make stubborn objective holders.
Great battle report...agree with Jeff that assault and terminator commanders would be great...in LI almost everything dies quickly is the big lesson I believe!
It can be a brutal game. Some more infantry variety would absolutely be nice!
Great video! Love seeing LI content. I definitely agree that in comparison to other GW games, LI is more fun to play than to paint and build (especially infantry). I got to play my second game today and I'm happy to say it seems to be gaining traction in my local group.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and I'm also glad to hear that your local scene is picking up. Hopefully you'll have many more games in the future 💪
Great video. Thanks. For the buildings TT combat has free downloadable pdfs of imperialis buildings that you can print (If ink jet cartridges were economical for you) With a few practice games, definitely have at least one objective point and some infantry as it will teach the importance of boots on the ground.
Great resource from TT Combat. Thank you! I think the Opening Maneuvers mission is a great way to begin including objectives -- once new players have figured out the basics of the gameplay.
I want to grab the Mechanicum battle group and either the Knight Households battle group or the Titan Legions battle group to supplement it. Which one would you recommend for my first list?
I think you'll probably get more utility out of the Knight Household, as you'll get a wider range of miniatures which will be more versatile than the titans. Unfortunately, neither knights nor titans are particularly strong, so be prepared to put some extra thought into how you plan to use them. They should have a specific purpose in your force if you want to get maximum utility out of them.
but the mechanicum is the cheapest buy a battlegroup mechanicum and one titan battlegroup for round about 225 euro here in Germany and you have close to 3000 points ready you might invest in one box auxilia tanks and one heavy tanks and a box of flyer as allied detachment. and you are done.
That's certainly a way! I don't generally recommend titans and knights for new players, but whatever gets you on the table and playing is the best course of action to follow.
My FLGS hosted a LI day over the holidays. It was organised on the store's discord. 6 people played three games - many of them their first. And another 6-8 of us vame along to watch, chat and show off what we'd built / painted. It was a great day and inspired me to get on with putting my stuff together!
That's great to hear! Community events are so important to keeping a game alive.
Good video. On terrain, I think you should highlight MDF options. The won't be for everyone (it's quite heavy, is perhaps an issue to paint if you're unaware how the material soaks up liquid and can have an unattractive 'MDF look') but there are a variety of options in 10mm and 8mm, some of which are excellent. Some have card layers for detail. It can be enhanced with some simple accessories and is much cheaper than some other options.
That's absolutely an oversight on my part. I completely agree that MDF terrain is a great option and an easy way to get lots of terrain quickly onto the table. Thanks for the comment!
Great video, btw I really enjoy those handrawn thumbnails of yours. You make them yourself?
I'm glad to hear you like them. I did not draw them, though -- they are by Mark Smylie. You can see a ton of his art with just a google search, but there's also a link to his Facebook page in the description.
Another class battle report from tacticae imperialis! Thank you for this one, it is doubly appreciated for showcasing the mechanicum and kudos on that front as its one of the first featuring them, if not the first. The mechanicum survived better than I had imagined they would, I really look forward to seeing more featuring the mechanicum!
Thank you! I do think we're the only channel to feature Mechanicum for Legions Imperialis, so we'll be trying to capitalize on that in the weeks to come. I was very happy with their performance, and it was a refreshing change from my more restricted Solar Auxilia. I liked how differently the armies played, which I think is great for the health of the game. It would be pretty boring if they just felt like reskinned Astartes or Auxilia with different weapons.
I definitely second the advice to take a look at 3D printing. It is easier than ever, and you can get a decent printer for around $150, and a really good one for under $300. A single army in Legions Imperialis will cost a lot more than that. On top of that, GW's infantry looks like crap. They have a ton of plastic over-bleeds, that conveniently don't show on their box art. Although, I will say that they make very nice titans, and their tanks look pretty good too.
I don't personally recommend starting 3d printing just to get into Legions Imperialis, just because 3d printing is a whole hobby unto itself. For me, it's easier to simply buy the miniatures. That said, I don't have much experience with it, and I know it works for some people. If you're already a proficient 3d printer and want to get into Legions Imperialis, I can absolutely see the advantages.
Thanks, adding the points summaries worked really well I thought
I think so too. Thanks again for the suggestion!
I hate to be a shill but lI is expensive and the detachment box is a really weird way to get minis but 3d printers are cheep, the minis are small and there are tons of stls from epic. I wouldn’t recommend it to people brand new to the hobby but if you’re biggest issue is people not wanting to purchase the models it may be worth it to look into getting a 200ish dollar 3d printer and making them a small army or an extra army they can use. I got my friends into Horus heresy by letting them use my space marines and then gifting them their minis on special occasions. This is way slower then buying miniatures but way cheaper later on and of course you’re spending the money to get people into the game which not everyone can or wants to do. I’m extremely biased though I’ve sculpted and printed my own dark mechanicum army for horus heresy and regularly work with printers so I should not be taken as gospel.
You make a fair point. I personally have no experience with 3d printing, so I can't in good faith recommend it even though I know it works for some people. As I think you suggest in your comment, 3d printing is a hobby unto itself, bringing its own challenges and expenses, and if someone isn't already an expert in 3d printing, I wouldn't recommend that as an avenue to getting into Legions Imperialis.
Build it and they will come….
Absolutely. We just have to persevere.
Good summary, and accurate too. Many of the traits are under powered when comparing against others. Thankfully I play Blood Angels and my primary opponent plays Night Lords and we both agree to bypass these rules and just play th game without them. Much better!
Glad you enjoyed the video. It's sad to see these traits being left by the wayside, but I have to admit that the game would probably be better off without them.
The bronze on the Mechanicus is gorgeous! How did you do it?
Thank you! It's an airbrushed Vallejo True Metal Red Gold basecoat, with an airbrushed shade of Army Painter dark flesh wash. Then after that I used a burnt umber oil wash, although I think an ocher wash would have been better to bring out the red more.
Great Format, Looks wonderful on the table!
Thanks very much! Really glad to hear you enjoyed the video
Was wondering where the thumbnail art comes from. This one and the previous battle report are really cool looking pieces.
The thumbnails are painted by Mark Smylie -- there's a link to his Facebook page in the video description.
@@tacticaeimperialisdidn’t even think to look there, thanks!
I like 1k point games as well. As you said, you get to finish the game! And it plays a bit different. Thanks for sharing!
It's good to mix it up, I think. You can do a full game in three or four hours, but you have to be really focused, and sometimes it's nice to be a bit more relaxed. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
I have only watch 40 seconds of the video but I feel you should have done (insert option here) and instead used (put opinion here). I feel that this would have (no video experience example). Thanks for the vedio, I only comment for the engagement and to encourage more LI battle reports. FOR DA EMPRAAAAA.

(not fun comment, but intended to, responding to yours, truly amusing), only for algorithm. And great video !
Great to see the Mechanicum on the table, they were very nicely painted too!
Glad you liked them! More are on the way
@@tacticaeimperialis They are extraordinarily clean looking. The details are really crisp and sharp
@ Thanks so much! I used Vallejo's true metals, which are very strong bold metallics.
