Either see what went wrong with this cake or follow along for a realistic walkthrough of my volcano cake for my son’s dinosaur birthday. We use boxed cake mix but you don’t want to miss the homemade buttercream frosting! I may be a beginner but I do have some tips for making cakes, especially if you are also a beginner like me. Covering your dirt backyard for $130 with a temporary plan. Kids and dirt means a huge never ending mess. I love our backyard and can't wait to lanscape it but right now it's not in our budget. So to hold us over until next spring I made the executive decision to use some of their combined Christmas and Birthday money from their Nana and Pops to create a dirt and nail free...
What is Home? 15th move in my 35 years I have found my answer
Переглядів 314 місяці тому
What is HOME to you? I mulled over the idea for a while and found the answer to my question. Home is a backyard without a lease. Home is where we can be messy as we plant our seeds for our roots to spread. We can create and make with a little hard work, sweat, and resourcefulness. Every apartment and house I have lived in has always been "home" but this time is forever... with a backyard! What ...

Dreading your long road trip, because...kids? We just drove over 1000 miles with our 4 children while towing all our earthly possessions and you know what, the kids were GREAT! Our truck busted a coolant hose and we had to add on an extra day of driving and needed to cancel all the reservations I had already made and re-reserve new rooms along the way, BUT (my husband and I kept saying) the kid...

    I cannot wait to try your bread recipe, but I have a question about the warm water. What temperature should the water be? I have heard that if it's not warm enough, the yeast won't "bloom." If the water is too warm, the yeast will die. Is there a temperature range that I should aim for? Thank you!

    • @house_of_cruz

      The Dutch oven traps the moisture and bakes the inside of the loaf before you take the lid off and bake on that crunchy crust. You can try using an oven safe 5 qt pot with foil wrapped tightly as a lid, or try a round casserole dish with a lid. Let us know how it turns out!

    So I made the dough yesterday (2/17) and just took it out to form and bake. It looked a lot like yours but it was very loose and would not form a ball, any ideas?

    • @house_of_cruz
      @house_of_cruz 7 місяців тому

      This can happen when there is too much liquid/ not enough flour. Did you bake it? I'd love to know how it turned out. I have miss counted and mixed up the measurements so many times using this recipe (I'll blame the kids) and it ALWAYS turns out! Just add some more flour to it while you are forming it and drop it in your Dutch oven, even if it doesn't hold shape, it should bake well.

      @@house_of_cruz well I used a couple of bench scrapers and plopped it onto a piece of parchment and into the Dutch oven. It didn’t rise up as much but seemed edible.

  • @suegruszka8280

    Do you bread flour or unbleached white flour. This recipe seems large enough for 2 loaves of bread.

    • @house_of_cruz
      @house_of_cruz 7 місяців тому

      Just regular unbleached flour. This is a large loaf! I have a large(ish) Dutch oven so I needed to have a larger loaf so it wouldn't come out flat. If you have a smaller Dutch oven (3 qrt), you will need to halve the recipe.

    • @house_of_cruz

      No, that is not a long enough rise time, at least for this recipe. The key for a light loaf is: little yeast, long rise, and sticky dough. Remembering to mix it the night before is the HARDEST part!

    I have a 5.5 quart dutch oven that I used. If yours is not marked like mine the formula to calculate capacity is (pi x radius squared) x height. divide this number by 57.75. If using a larger DO it may come out flatter because of the larger diameter, but should still be delicious. Let me know if you've used a different size and how it turned out!
