Sam's TR8 is absolute class! Looks great and sounds amazing. Perfect weather for that drive too. This whole episode has started me thinking about a TR V8 of my own - or possibly a TVR 350i/390SE. Decisions....
First v8 ldv was called medic one at Edinburgh Royal infirmary
Is the issue, that it’s FU😂😂d??
The saloon is a much better-looking car .
Rotor arm movement is due to the auto advance and retard mechanical is working, which looks normal. Have you checked that the crankcase breather pipes are not blocked? also where the pipes attach to the carbs the brass fitting is known to become blocked by carbon as are the flame trappes. I would suggest that you remove the carbs to clean and make sure the float levels are correct and moving correctly, also ensure the floats are not leaking.. change plugs and check the leads for continuity. Ensure all vacuum pipes are fitted and undamaged. Once you get it running properly, as has been mentioned either WD40 or carb cleaner can be spayed around the manifold as a leak checker, engine revs will increase if leak is presant.
Back in the 70s my local constabulary replaced their beloved Triumph 2500PIs with Granadas which they hated. After accidentally parking one on top of a grass roundabout they replaced them with P6Rovers!
my old sd1 V8 that would red line at 7000 rpm 120 mph in 3rd at that
Electrical fuel pump problem, typical to Buick engines, otherwise a fantastic car and engine
There the worst faults …intermittent, there one minutes and gone the next.
I see thoughs key board hands and I know this is going nowhere.........
Got a hell of a gallop there.
I need that blue SD1. I won't last without it.
Beautiful car! Great video. Love it.
Those poor Alphas.....Ive always wanted the clover leaf one but god they fetch some serious money now
"Proper Job,Pard" Team West ov Tamar
these cars rust so bad
i would have thought it would be manual being a rally car
Thanks!
The horns were “Martin Horns” I believe, they made train horns, ones that played tunes and the neee naaa police horns.
The front air dams are very interesting (at least to me!). They would have reduced front end lift but would also have reduced the coefficient of drag. While perhaps only worth a couple of mph at the top end, at 90mph the car might have been using, at a guess, 20bhp less so when the foot went to the floor at 90 mph it would have been a lot quicker than a P6 without them. The exhaust manifolds would also have increased power (assuming the carburettors were re-jetted) but might not make as much difference as the front air dam.
Randomly appeared in my feed, good stuff. I've no idea if you have a marque bias, but as a daily, P6 or Triumph 2500?
Next car should be a Jaguar MkX, that should well and truely cure you of cars if you want to discover a new hobby after it🥴
Nice car ❤
Very interesting, thank you!
that galloping when turning over tells you all you need to know unfortunately
It runs well now there will be a video in the new year
@@classic_britain Winnner! I did regret my comment a bit as the video went on and the galloping cleared up as it was clearly just from sitting (facepalm)
Easy to do your test in everybody will just wave you through on the highway.😅
Dipstick for the fuel well I never !!!😅
Well that should suit the British weather not surprised it was used in France & Spain😅
Sold the burger van yet?
Nah won't go up till January now
*an FFS
🤣🎄👍👍👍👍
What business does Andrew do? Classic car restoration?
Yep he has been restoring since he was 12
Proper motor.
Does he want to sell the blue sd1
No not for sale
@classic_britain sham
Lovely old car 😊
Very nice 👌
Have you passed your driving test yet Sheldon?
I can't afford to at the moment and there are not courses available till next year but I am going to get off my ass and do it
Funny how fast people can pass giving the instructor a back hander to move them up the waiting list.😅
Lovely car but the driving totally stressed me out.
From an old boy, who still listens to the old boys. ;)
not the famous vapour lock loved my scarab blue 3500
This is the second one of your vids (the first being the P6 police car) where you’ve referred to “putting photos up now in the video”, but no photos have appeared!!
My brother had a white p6 which had a wheel on the boot. He washed it every week and done all the repairs on it himself. It was mint condition and he owned it in 1978 onwards the registration was GGH 99N he took us to Devon with a caravan. Awesome spot less white and black leather interior which gave me a headache. I was young when he owned it.
I had a Triumph 2000 that started doing the same, it was a fuel blockage. Metal pipe from the tank to the engine, but each section was connected with a short rubber hose, one had started delaminating internally, replaced them all. there were about 6 I seem to remember. Easy to find fuel starvation on the 2000, there was a glass bowl on the engine driven pump, a bubble meant fuel starvation. I think Rovers had an electric "clicking" pump.
Boy - that dashboard looks so much more classy than the digital bling of modern cars!
Yes, P6 ergonomics could put some modern cars to shame. Designed over 60 years ago and still pleasant/easy to drive.
has someone fitted an SD1 5 speed box? i thought the manuals were 4 speed in 1974/5
A friend of mine here in Australia has one in perfect working order. It is kept in his shed under a larger car cover. And no do not change the colour. Yes it was built new as a limosine model. Parts for this car have made maintenance very difficult over recent years.
my tuppence worth opinion would be, fuel vaporisation or a dodgy earth.
L
Nice!! When I lived in Cambridge some years ago, a very elderly lady used to smoke about in one of these. Seriously, she could only just see over the wheel. Same colours, and absolutely a Majestic Major, not an 'ordinary' Majestic. Rough condition, but it sounded fabulous. I always figured she was the original owner.
That Buick V8 was one of the greatest engines ever built the LS of its era, it was criminal they didn't put it in the Triumph Stag !!
Personally I prefer the Triumph OHC V8 in my Stag..
@@melincourt Well Triumph disagreed opting for the Buick/Rover V8 in the final TR the TR8 stating the Triumph V8 was too heavy and had a poor service record
