Indeed. I recommend the Traveller (I own a 1970 one), which is sturdy and ultra-practical. Also easy to upgrade them with for instance, 1275cc MG Midget engine, front disc brakes, alternator, unleaded cylinder head, etc.
The chassis won't be rust free if you leave it parked on grass for any length of time. Rising moisture from the grass will keep the chassis soaking wet. Its the dumbest way to store a vehicle.
I can’t see the point in all this if you don’t have a driving license. Is there a medical reason maybe why you cannot get a license? I’ve never understood that and probably (highly probable) the main thing holding this channel back.

At last someone talking some sense! get a small car to get you going - most cars are interesting Vauxhall/ford/austin you can make videos on them all, but stop buying 3.5 litre monsters that will do 20 mpg and you will struggle to get insured on. you can film barn finds driving a 20 year old pug that will do 50mpg - yes the target is british, but you dont need to start there (and you dont need to show it if you dont want to) Oh and you need to pass your test!

I would suggest that your next video should be about buying a cheap run around to concentrate on passing your driving test. It can be British if you like so long as it is roadworthy, current MOT etc, and I am sure you have plenty of adult support with a full driving license to sit with you whilst you practice your driving.
T4 diesel is a good choice, but go for the best condition one you can. The 1.9TD’s are somewhat underpowered, the 2.4D too (but bulletproof). If you can stretch to a 102HP 2.5TDI it’d be your best option, but the 2.4D is a lot cheaper to buy and simpler to maintain. I’m on my second , the first was a 102hp Muntivan, my current is a 150hp California camper. Love it to bits 😊. I don’t know much about the petrol versions. Whatever you don’t touch the automatic versions, that gearbox is a whole lot of misery ! Make sure you choose a rust free example! You may be tempted by an early T5, they are usually cheaper to buy than late T4’s but there’s a reason for that. The build quality of the 2003-2006 models is no where near as good as the T4, and the early 2.5TDI is a disaster as far as reliability is concerned, ask me how I know 🤬 And pass your test!!!😉

Good on you for setting the record straight. The best thing I did was rationalise my ‘fleet’ and go to just one classic and an everyday car. You can spread yourself too thin. I have done that for decades and now have a Lotus Elise and a Jaguar XFR. Buy a T4, get a nice small useable classic and have some fun. Good luck !
A word to the wise. Get something comfortable, practical, economical and mundane as a daily. Something you can drive anywhere and park anywhere and never worry about. Something that has an MOT and no issues. Preferably an estate car so you can carry stuff in it and sleep in it on occasion if/when needed. Interesting shit heaps are very exiting and it’s easy to get carried away. We’ve all done it. But for now, just get reliable transportation sorted out first, then you can get something interesting for the weekends afterwards 🙂👍🏻

Bit like starting up a bicycle repair shop but you can't do punchers
Re the T4: If it doesn't have service history don't go anywhere near it. And poke the underneath hard for rust. Other than that, they're brilliant vans and, if properly maintained, will run for 300k miles without problem. Check out the VW T4 forum, there may be one for sale. PS: stay away from the auto boxes
Sellers rarely tell the truth about cars they are selling. They will highlight the good points and hope the bad ones aren't discovered. Everyone does as otherwise you would never sell anything. Classics are particularly precarious because of rust and much worse hidden rust.

10-12 mpg is realistic! T4s are overpriced rust buckets, and diesels are painfully slow. Not a good choice at all as unless you spend serious money on a good one (£3-4k), you will be getting a dog needing work. The ONLY sensible choice if you are looking for a van is a Toyota HiAce, but these are VERY sought after now, and there are many tarted up wrecks being advertised for top money. Not quite as crazy money as VW though, and you have bulletproof reliability and reasonable (30mpg) fuel consumption. Insurance is likely to be £1000+ on any van though, so it's well worth looking at that cost before making any plans on what to buy.
go buy an old ldv pilot 1.9td or the ldv convoy di / banana drop the engine n box in resell the v8 for good money . easy work cheaper to run old veg oil waste engine oil free motoring 👌

You have a real solid base, put a 200tdi or 300tdi in it.

I've had my T4 for 8 years, great van and goes well. Some lemons out there though, but chose carefully and you'll be fine.
If the doors and bonnet are rusted I would imagine the underneath of that thing will hold a few horrors.

Get an LPG conversion on it, Twin torpedo tanks slung underneath will make it more economical, and you have the flexibility of running on LPG/ Petrol.

The ONLY sensible choice if you are looking for a van is a Toyota HiAce, but these are VERY sought after now, and there are many tarted up wrecks being advertised for top money. Not quite as crazy money as VW though, and you have bulletproof reliability and reasonable (30mpg) fuel consumption.
Insurance is likely to be £1000+ on any van though, so it's well worth looking at that cost before making any plans on what to buy.

Good choice going for a T4. I have owned mine for over 18 years. The 1.9TD is easy to work on. Quite basic, no ECU.
