Create BETTER Images with These HIDDEN Settings in Capture One
It shouldn't be as expensive as it is.... Some I've seen go for 1 hour is 300 this is insane And also you didn't mention how people wanna live above there means.... A great photographer also has in mind the customer not just themselves However I like your points how you said the photographer has to know what there doing.
In some countries it takes no less than 5 minutes to get insurance, in some countries even after months and months of trying you can't get insurance for certain things.
I cannot thank you enough for sharing these tips. This is so incredibly helpful!
By far the best capture one vidéo on UA-cam
I thought i knew capture one😅 but after watching this i realised there’s a lot i didn’t know. Very informative. Thank you so much. You gained a follower🫡
someone told me I look like Jack Black today, And I'm going to lose weight now
I feel that the actual question might be what will be the place of AI tech. In adbePS. And here I feel that there is a split amongst users, while some rather AI, some definitely don't. But if the democratic decision is to have AI - and this question affects directly at these times on the company stock price - there has to be an understanding that users should allow them to perform their research while developing this tech. Within adbePS. I do not want AI in PS. So I was looking to found out if it's possible to block out the AI section in the program... Cheers.
The most useful vid I have seen so far. Great work!
Thanks, I'm really happy to hear it!
Love your clear and honest C1 videos. Keep going. And I agree with your observations even as Apple only user.
Android Tablots not Capture one Availble?
They don't make an Android app.
Hi Kevin: I really like the features that were included in this release. I am very impressed with the speed in which C1 is introducing features and then purifying them in subsequent releases. I really hope that they will getting 'auto-collapse' introduced within their menus similar to the Solo mode that is in LrClassic. Best wishes to you for a Happy Holiday Season! Cheers, Keith (Barrie, Ontario)
I doubt you'll ever see that given the way Tools exist in capture one, as their own free-moving entities. You can move them anywhere and even detach them from tool tabs and have them floating on the app. There is a pinned area at the top of every tool tab, though, and it might be great to see an option to have a solo mode in the pinned areas.
my first canara was a Canon SL2 with a Yongnuo 50 F/1.8 lens. I eventually upgraded to a Canon R6. But I use my Fujifilm XT-2 with a 35mm F /0.95 manual focus lens for paid work
Hi Kevin: Thanks for creating and sharing this video. Some great tips, especially the one about change the camera file naming convention as my wife and I both shoot with Sony cameras and over the years as I have bought new camera it would be nice to know exactly who created which image. I guess a Batch Renaming activity within my DAM would do the trick. Best wishes for a happy Holiday Season. Cheers, Keith PInn (Barrie, Ontario)
Glad it helped!
My whole year basically imploded !!!!
Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's been rough out there for so many people, myself included.
@@StudioBuilder Well that's the risk we all take as entrepreneurs, but I have to thank you for being honest about the struggles its really helped me deal with the situation.
I have enjoyed every single capture one video and would like you to continue with the features of caption capture one and also how you utilize it
Thanks, I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos! I'm planning to continue making more Capture One videos.

Hi, thanks for the break down! Also just wanted to ask-- your link to the ultimate SEO guide doesnt seem to link to the actual guide? I can't find it when i click on the link? Thanks man
Thanks for the heads up! Here's the full link. It's also the first click in the website menu. studiobuilder.co/ultimate-seo-guide-photographers
It has to be a part time business (or at least that is how it’s worked for me)… I work full time, I have a photography business as a side hustle.
Super excited to see content from a southern Ontario brother. I've been deep diving photography lately and this was really enjoyable (and relatable) to listen to. I am literally 1 mouse click away from buying a Sony A7RV but I've also been thinking about our dying dollar and how maybe its not the best time to drop $8000+ on something like you said... not sure. I really wanted to take pictures of winter, my favourite mood of the year.
The dollar is expected to drop even further with the US Federal Reserve not lowering the base rate and Canada's Central Bank continuing to. Vistek lists that camera at $4,798, which will be $5,400 after tax, but that's body only. Unless you absolutely NEED NEED NEED a new body, whatever you have right now is probably perfectly fine, especially if it's scenic. I just sold my Mini 2 drone because I hardly use it, and I'm also selling my Sony ZV-1 for similar reasons. Save your money.
1:00 "people in the US doing.very well". BRO. here is a free for all deathmatch for photographers.
In the Facebook groups I'm in, people in the US are making crazy money hand over fist.
We are in the same boat here in the US. We have seen a significant decrease in sales over the past two years too. People are really starting to buckle down. A lot of smaller businesses are closing left and right because of it. Restaurants are taking the bulk of it. I am also rethinking everything. Do I want to continue or not, 20 years in for myself.
I hear ya. I know so many photographers in the US who are making six figures or multiple six figures, but we don't work in the same genres.
Post Covid, prices for goods and services has risen sharply in the U.S., so it’s challenging here as well. Just hopeful the tariffs being discussed aren’t imposed because that’s going to exacerbate the situation for all of us. I don’t like getting drawn into discussions about politics because that’s a slippery slope these days. Wishing you a prosperous 2025!!
The tarriffs Trump is suggesting would plunge Canada and most of the world into a situation worse than the great depression. But then again, sociopaths don't care about whether or not they hurt other people.
What are the tax laws in regards to you coming to the US to buy gear and bringing it back into Canada?
We would have to pay HST at the border or they confiscate it. Also, things like cameras and lenses purchased in the US have to be serviced in the US for some reason. I get some things from B&H and even with currency conversion shipping and duties, I'm often still saving a bit of money. Driving, with the cost of gas, just doesn't make sense, even though I'm relatively close to the border.
You are so right about beeing stuck with the work that pays ones bills... its like working 60-80 hours a week, and when you can breath a bit of air, the last thing I think about is grabbing my camera... And yes, money are less and less worth these days!
That edit showing the softbox was awesome! I found you through your video about getting an agent, and I appreciate your honesty and transparency about it all. There's so much BS on youtube, so finding someone like yourself is refreshing. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, glad you found me! It's a rough road where I am, but maybe it'll be easier for you.
How are you sending your images to your clients - Google Drive?
I use a Studio Management system called Sprout Studio: studiobuilder.co/sprout
Thank you for all your excellent work. Very much appreciated.
You are very welcome
Thanks for that, the eye updates are indeed welcome!
You bet!
Just found your page! I normally shoot portraits at all sorts of outdoor locations. I want to create studio portraits but be able to set up quickly anywhere. I want to bring the studio to the clients, especially being in the Midwest USA in the winter. It is way too cold outside. What all do I need to have a proper backdrop stand and backdrops
Get a portable backdrop stand and some good lights. Do your research and prioritize for your needs. For me, speed isn't a top priority during a shoot, so I pack a lot of gear along with a cart and arrive early. It really depends on what you're shooting and what your priorities are. Good luck!
Top!!! Great info! I feel the same. Thanks again Hugs from Portugal 👍🤗
I think key element in working with headshot space is people are saving money and also I guess competition is much higher than in specified commercial jobs. For me this year overall I worked less but made much more than last year but I am mainly focusing on outdoor brands that have modern approach to their design. I ll probably restart my YT and will talk about it as I my segment of buissness is working as it is totally different I am not dependent on normal customers rather than brands that hire me for gigs.
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate it very much. Your videos are always very personable because you discuss your own experiences and situations. It’s quite refreshing since a lot of creators out there don’t talk as much about that. I don’t blame them but it’s great that you did. Thank you!
I think it's important to be honest about the industry, your own experience, and what you bring to the table.
Interesting and Honest Scott. Sadly not much different in the UK - our productivity growth stagnated in 2010 and it has barely budged since, same in the EU although I didn't know it was like that in Canada. In The UK and EU we are steadily getting poorer as individuals compared to US citizens, and our spending power is noticeably dropping, cant see it changing much in the next few years! Cheers and have a good Xmas.
Yeah, probably not for the next four year, at least. Best to invest in companies that would be needed during times of war and austerity.
Thanks for sharing, man. Very informative. "pays taxes because he likes universal healthcare and roads"....bloody socialist. *sarcasm.
💀💀💀
I also love Scott's channel. I'm not a commercial photographer, but I do headshots. But also weddings, families, and events. And I think a lot of info that both you and Scott share are relevant to what I do and how I want to run my business. Hopefully I'll be able to make the leap to full time shooter soon. Thanks for all the insights and advice.
It's a tough decision, but hopefully you can make the leap!
Appreciate your transparency. Your content and thoughts really have helped me in my pursuit in sustaining a photography practice.
That's awesome to hear. We're not alone out there, even though it often feels like it.
Yes I agree I've done similar. I'm in Niagara and I've opted on finding used gear that is in excellent shape vs buying new if possible. Recently grabbed an additional body and saved 2K not including HST.
Very realistic discussion. It's tough running a photography business. Overhead is always an issue. Right now I float between three locations depending on the job and/or availability. I had a studio for a while but it stopped making economic sense. Hopefully, I'll find a space that is more reasonable.
In the custom shortcut area one of the options is to apply crop ratio vs apply style. The custom style for a crop does work too but they do give you this option for crops out of the box. I use the number pad to apply crops from 4:5, 1:1, 16:9. Also seeing up a shortcut to flip the crop orientation between horizontal and vertical or just to reset saves a lot of time.
This is great to know! Sometimes I make things more complicated than they need to be. I'll definitely make a video about this.
I too have shortcuts for cropping. I shoot sports and only use 3 crops, 2x3, 3x4 and 16x9, using S D and F keys. The only thing I would like to have is a 4x3 shortcut, as currently I have to use the 3x4 crop and rotate it. Fantastic video, many thanks.
@@simoncarlton6424 I've had this same pain for so long! I typically shoot in landscape but often decide to crop down to 4x5 for a social media post. FWIW, the Crop tool's decision to set 4x5 to actually be 4x5 instead of 5x4 seems to be related to the file's original dimensions. For example, if I shoot in portrait mode, selecting 4x5 will then crop a true 4x5... but if the photos was originally in landscape mode setting 4x5 will actually end up 5x4. In a recent 16.5.x update (i forget which), we gained the ability to map "Switch Crop Orientation", so my go-to for landscape shots has been to hit my 4x5 shortcut (i use "4") and then Switch the orientation... it's 2 keys, and that's really annoying. That said, I didn't realize that i never thought of saving a crop as a custom style... but this seems to have solved my problem! I simply made a proper 4x5 crop, saved that preset and replaced my "not always true 4x5 crop" keyboard shortcut with "apply 4x5 crop preset", and it now it only takes me one key, finally! Thanks for the great tip, @StudioBuilder!
Thanks Kevin for creating and sharing your knowledge within Capture One. I am relatively new to C1 and I have found this information extremely helpful. Do you use Keywords within your workflow and if so, how do you accomplish this. I am heavy into key-words so I use Excire Foto along with C1 to key-word every image that I have. Cheers, Keith (Barrie, Ontario)
I'm not big on keywording, no, since I tend to use sessions and not catalogue. Excire looks great but you can't select which drive to install it on last I tried and that doesn't work for me.
The AI masking update means I need to update my custom style for headshots. Thankfully an easy fix. C1 isn’t perfect but to me it’s a more professional workflow than other software.
Fantastic information...mind blown!
Glad it helps!

#2 is huge! Learning how to market is the hardest part. It’s not the skill per se.
great tips! how do you do set on the camera? i have an R5 with File Name set to 6Q8A and User Setting 1 is set to IMG_ and User Setting 2 is set to IMG_ + image size. your file structure is longer than the 3 or 4 character limit. i am just getting into astro photography and i want a file name that shows the object name, date (120824) and time (HHMMSS.SS). How do you do this?
You can't do that in camera. In camera I just set the file prefix to my initials.
@StudioBuilder that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the reply!
Not one of these reasons concerns me at all. It’s a business. Now, learning how to edit the photos is a little concerning. I want to photograph products for businesses. Preferably from my home studio.
I agree with the Android frustration! I use Android phones as well, and as much as I love Capture One, this issue really bugs me. I understand that they have to decide where to invest, but it would be nice to at least see a roadmap of when we can expect Android support for things like Capture One Mobile. I'm also a software developer and have built native and cross-platform apps on iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, and Linux, so I know it's not a trivial task.
The Apple bias has ticked me off for a while. As I watch this and before you mentioned it I went to sync my just updated keyboard shortcuts to the cloud. Saw I needed All In One and said out loud why the !@#$ would I pay for that as an Android user. I wish the cloud sync was just included in the higher price we already pay over the competition. Or just give us the tools to put put those files on one of Dropbox/Google Drive/Onedrive/Apple whatever.
Love you vids! I think you mean on your picon’s text overlay “This Changes Everything”
I do mean "THIS CHANGE is everything." I like the play on words.
I agree with your frustration that more users can't have access to syncing settings between different Capture One installations. I fear that Capture One is using this to try to force users to their most expensive subscription packages and perpetual license or entry level subscription users will start losing out on more and more new features. They're perhaps trying to push the average revenue per customer higher (which has already been a steady increase over the past 3 years with the loss of camera-specific versions, then loss of perpetual upgrades, then introduction of higher priced bundles, now new features that would be useful to all users only appearing in the highest priced options). I also agree with your comments about Windows users being second class citizens. For starters, we have no scripting option and it seems like bugs are slow to get fixed on Windows.
100% agree re. Capture One's Apple bias. Not many people are vocal about it. Thanks for doing this.
