Journaling and creating first thing in the morning has been a healing journey that has pulled me out of a deep burnout and helped me find my joy again. I am a 50-something devoted to curing my burnout and brain fog through art. You are so welcome here.

Oh! What’s feeding me, Creating a Recipe #knittothis
I used to read paperbacks relentless when I was young. At some point free time became so precious, that I am generally doubling up: listening to audiobooks while crafting for example. But I do miss the actual reading and am working on picking it up again. My cookbooks are all paper books. Thanks for another inspiring video. Lots of information to consider.
I buy lots of my books in charity shops. BookOutlet and Thriftbooks online are also good.
Hi. I just discovered your channel... the "re-reader" part caught my eye. I know a lot of readers, but only one other re-reader. I reread a lot, but unlike you, most of my rereads are non-fiction. I read fiction as well, but I'm less likely to reread those. I don't read a lot of fantasy either, and that's where most of the series seem to be. I would guess the fiction book I've reread the most was "the Bridges of Madison County". I probably read it 5-6 times and after the last time I lent it to a friend and let her keep it. The book I've reread the most is probably "84 Charing Cross Rd" by Helen Hanff. I reread a lot of journaling books, my 2 favorite rereads are "One on one" by Christina Baldwin, and "the New Diary" by Tristine Rainier. I only read physical books. I've tried a couple ebooks and audible, but didn't enjoy them. Thanks for explaining why that is probably so. I loved your video and I'm looking forward to more.
So happy you are here! It's funny I ended up editing out of the vid a moment where I share that as many times as I have reread Rebecca...I don't own a copy! I keep reading it and giving it away because I am SURE I wont read it again, every time! So this year I am finding a hard back copy and keeping it. Bridges would be a great re-read and in fact? I think I did re-read that - it was one that also evolved as I changed too. I am curious about Charing Cross road I will look that up! :)
Hi Andrea! I enjoyed your book-focused episode. I have found that usually what is popular, I can't get into. :) I made through 50% of the first ACOTAR book and I discovered it wasn't for me. I think I'm just not a fantasy person. Luckily, there's something out there for everyone. I'm an audiobook listener and I listen while knitting, cleaning, working out, etc. A bad narrator could definitely make or break a book for me. If I'm 5 minutes in and I hear too many mouth noises, I'm done. hahaha I just finished Rebecca and I thought my 15 year old daughter would like it. It was perfect when you said you were 15 when you first read it! I am not a re-reader, but the one book I read every year is The Great Gatsby. Hope work goes well and I enjoyed catching up!
I love to hear your 15 year old is a reader too! That book had such an impression on me at that age. But even now, I still find something every time I read it. I can see Great Gatsby being a great re-read! I was so surprised I loved Fantasy as much as I do - I think I just love the total escape from reality. So happy you are here!
Wow, Andrea!! You are quite the reader!! You go girl!! I’m such a slow reader that I don’t get many books read in a year. And that’s ok! And I have never read a book twice. For me, books come into my life, for whatever reason, and I read them. Some stay for awhile and some leave quickly. I’m always at a certain point(place) in my life (physically, mentally, spiritually)when I read a book. And maybe I think, if I’d re-read the book sometime later, I wouldn’t want to return to that place where I was when I first read the book. Or I would want to return and can’t. Does any of this make sense?! lol So many books… so little time. Then I heard someone who reads the same book over and over say that the book never changes..but we do!! Hitting the “ pause” button now to do some journaling on that!! Looking forward to your book journal. Loving your channel. You’d be fun to grab a coffee with☕️
Oh yes! Let's go get coffee!! :) I totally get you about rereading - and I think there's a lot to that - I like to return to a space feeling or time in life - again and again, but I for SURE have times I want to move past and I am sure books read in those phases will never be rereads for me for that very reason. Not feeling the same when I go back is part of the interest to me too though as I evolve so does my response to characters etc. Someone should do a study! So happy you are here!
Perfect morning watch with my coffee! Hand up for being a re-reader and a re-listener(on Audible). While I always have a new book going, I almost always have a re-read going at the same time. And the new book I have going right now (Pillars of the Earth) is going to be a re-read for sure. I love so many things about this book, and there are things I want to research and things I am sure I am missing. Not sure if I will read the second one in the series before reading it again or will just start it over right away. I have a Kindle paperwhite that I have had for, I would say, 12-14 years. If it dies, I won’t replace it. I do like taking it when I fly because it is lighter than hauling books around. What I find is that I really enjoy the feel of a real book in my hands. Like Andrea points out, you can write in them and/or mark areas to go back to. Also easier to flip the page back and re-read if I stop giving my full attention. And while my Kindle only has books, I don’t feel as if I am getting away from technology. Physical books seem to fuel my imagination and inspire me in such a wonderful way. I don’t have any specific reads for this Christmas, although I traditionally read David Copperfield and A Christmas Carol sometime during December. I have been an Audible member for years. I have a lot of books, but probably 10 that I listen to again and again. Not being a great sleeper, Audible is perfect for middle of the night insomnia. I also love having it in the car, but I only put on books I have listened to before so I don’t have to give full attention. I find that a great narrator helps me deal with crazy traffic and a lot of stops if I a doing errands. Andrea, I love your plan of only buying one book at a time from a series. I too remember those days of endless waiting for a package to arrive! What a great idea! Thanks for another fun video🤗
so happy you find some inspiration here - and interesting to know you are a re-reader - its about 50/50 as best I can tell! :) I can see audible helping with insomnia - I have the Calm App and I know one feature I haven't used but is popular is "bedtime stories" where people with really soothing voices read you to sleep. :)
Another fun episode. I listened while starting a new sweater 😊. I kept a book journal for a few years. I had small pictures of the covers, dates when I read the book, and notes. When it started to feel like homework, I stopped 😅. Now I use The Storygraph to track my reading. I also have a section on my monthly planner pages noting what I am currently reading. I am not a re-reader and I do read on Kindle but only on a Paperwhite so there isn’t the temptation that you get when reading on an app. I look forward to seeing how you use your journal. Enjoy your holiday reading ❤
So happy you enjoyed! I was knitting to knitting podcasts like crazy the last few nights. I’d love to know where (how) you did your little printed book covers for your journal I haven’t looked into sources for that yet - and good for you for letting it go when it stopped serving you - so many times we cling to things that have had their time! 😂 it’s a good reminder ❤
I printed my book covers at home on matte sticker paper. Now that I am using TheStorygraph, I am loving all the different data graphics they have to see your reading life. I am considering doing a monthly page in my planner next year with some of those images - pie charts, graphs, an image of the books you have finished, and even a calendar if you track your reading on a daily basis. I just track when I start and finish a book.
Happy Thanksgiving! I recently bought a bag (not one of Sandy's though) for my journals as well. It's fantastic having them all together and they are easier to move. It looks worn and used and I am so glad I decided to go for it. I am sure you will love Sandy's tote.

@@marykerlin994 I’m so happy you enjoy! @@Sarah-bf3yb thanks!! So happy you’re finding some good things! I good excited about my 2025 reading journal I’m going to try to load a vid as early as tomorrow!
I feel like this is my exact story. I have way too much stuff. My crafting items are out of control-especially yarns. I plan to take it room by room and have 2025 a no buy year too.
I love a planner, have used lots of them over the years as well. Day Timer, Franklin Planner, Happy Planner, my own bullet journal, everything handwritten in a dot grid, and finally the best of all for me the Hobonichi. I use fountain pens almost exclusively in the Hobonichi. sharpie markers and alcohol inks do bleed through, but I use my journals for those art supplies. I love watercolouring in my Hobonichi, it's lovely the way the paper moves with the watercolour. [Also, Sephora is a huge facist supporter, so I will never spend another cent there again].
Also, Ulta, not a donor to the Project 2025 creators.
Good to know and once again, just based on accessibility I have avoided Sephora - I pass 3 ulta's to get there - but I dont buy much in the way of cosmetics - that was a HUGE purge and "get real" time in my life a few years ago - women are stunned to see what I actually own - its all in one small maybe tackle box size container. One. small. That took work :) but I do love make up and will buy again so that's helpful to know! I looked online a few weeks ago for a web site that lists dollars spent by corporations for leaning in one direction or another, and the one I found was pretty clunky to navigate - feel free to share one if you know of a good one. I am beyond excited about setting up my hobanichi and omg - watercolor in these pages??? Yes! I am on it! :)
Great video! Thank you!🙏❤
thanks! Hope you find some inspo!
I so enjoyed your video, Andrea, as I just returned home from a Mindfulness Retreat in Minneapolis. Sure hoping to be more mindful in all that I do…eating, speaking, crafting and even buying gifts this year for Christmas. Your “shop” is looking great and is very inviting and cozy. One of my practices is whenever I bring something “ new” into our home, I always take something “old” and place it into our rummage sale closet. And when our church has their annual rummage sale in the spring I have plenty to donate! And it always feels so good!!
thanks for being here! I have never been great about running a garage sale - I might want to consider that this time around. My closet has clear rules - new shirt in means one has to go - maybe more than one - its the only way to maintain in that tiny space but it also forces me to really decide if that blouse is coming with me because she's going to force another out! :)
I am thrilled to not hear anything from you about Hobby Lobby for the first time when you talk about shopping! Yes, it is a privilege to shop where we want, and we all have to make such choices in some way. We all have choices. And we all have to live with those choices. I've had very little money at times, at those times I only bought art supplies at thrift stores, and very thoughtfully chose items to ask for as gifts (my first set of interchangeable knitting needles for example). Buying whole foods rather than processed foods can save money, meal prepping to save money and time... Almost all of my stash - yarn, fabric, looms, etc come from my local textile center's garage sale. I do have enough to last a lifetime now. While that won't stop me from buying at the next textile sale, it will protect me as the facist administration begins and tariffs make the price of everything to up. I'm thoughtfully making purchases before 2025 right now.
thank you for this awesome comment thread and OH MY GOSH you have me so excited about thrifting - I had this incredible light bulb moment reading this - I realized that while I do love thrift shops, and, I'd say easily 80% of my home decor and furniture came from life time of antique and second hand shops browsing, for some weird reason, I had these places "locked" in my brain as places to go browse only - and because I have what I need home wise, and have been so big on purging, I had written them off in my head as kinda not useful in my life - but no no no!!! This is a PERFECT amazing answer to how I go forward - when I am looking to add something, start there! Used. Reuse Recycle and re-love! I am so excited!!!! After elections, I had to get really honest with myself about where I leave my money. And what impact that really has. Honestly, anytime someone came at me about H.L. I was hearing they didn't love their religious aspect - and I don't have anything against religion or rights to be an openly religious corporation - what I DO have issues with is anyone using religion as a foundation for hurt or prejudice, judgement or pain. I made up my own mind about the store - others can do as well. But I also tried not to fall into too much shame or blame (which I can feel sometimes ) and I say to myself Andrea, "do the best you can until you know better, and when you know better, do that" - Maya Angelou thanks so much for being here.
I get the feb thing, I like to use march/spring as my new year.
Oh even better! yeh Jan 1 - I am tired. Not ready to become the 2025 me I am sure of that! :) I love a spring start...hmmmm...thanks for the great thought!
Oh yeh what a great point about stash and other things - knowing where they are and why we have them! As all knitters know stash gets tucked way deep away and when it’s out of sight…..that was my big lesson in stash acquisition. Now what I own I can see there are no mystery boxes or tubs around. That took me a few years though! Sheesh. An inventory seems so fun! I will do a photo catalogue I think - great thought so thank you! It will be both interesting and rewarding I review to see how it changes.
Hi, Andrea👋! I have definitely been purging as well. Yarns I bought in 2018 are no longer to my taste and I've donated much of my stash to friends and thrift stores. My interests have also shifted to journaling/planning/scrapping and I am more intentional about my yarn stash and what I can, and will, realistically use. Something I've asked myself to eliminate impulse buys this year is "do I have a place for this?" If I buy something, I want to remember that I bought it and actually want to use it. So knowing where it is and where it belongs has helped my acquisition of things this year. I was wondering if you would be taking inventory of the things you have before the new year/no buy starts to compare at the end of the year? Just curious. :)
I have been purging and curating my fiber stash too. And I have released most of my scrapbooking stash because it was not giving me energy. I am also considering how to be more restrained and intentional about purchasing in the upcoming year. This was a great video chat. Thanks
Wonderful! I think just the exercise of awareness makes a huge difference for me. Really stopping and getting quiet with an item I might purge or before a purchase, closing my eyes and getting inside my own mind, and asking how this item idea or thing really makes me feel. If it’s just too indulgent I feel a little discomfort in my gut. If it’s too much clutter I get a kind of tingle in my hands (itchy like they know work is coming) if it’s just right I get this sort of lightness or butterflies sensation in my belly. Our bodies can really pinpoint emotions. But awareness is so key and you reminded me of that. Thank you! ❤
I feel that have purged so much in the last several years, but am still able to let go of things every now and then. Each time I feel better. The no buy for next year sounds very interesting. I have already started to buy less stuff and invest more in experiences, but I think, there is still room for improvement. At the same time I am working on rcreating good-for-me habits and I am also searching for my word of the year. I want it all tie into one another. So, thank you for your input and video.
Thanks for sharing!! It’s amazing how it seems to be a continuous effort right? I’m so interested in hearing about everyone’s experiences in this. And it’s so comforting to know how many of us have such similarities in this experience too. My word for 2025 found me this year. I’ll share it in a video where I set up my 2025 planner/journal’s soon. And I’ll review some of my past years words - a review! 😂 thank you for watching and sharing ❤
I am always so glad and grateful to see a new video here! Thank you for sharing so much inspiration and knowledge with us. Whenever I am feeling scattered, which seems to be too often lately, your videos help me bring back focus and calmness and a fun sense of exploration. If anyone is considering the happiness tracker, I highly recommend giving it a try. I have been doing it for a few months now and feel I finally have it finessed to my liking. It is fun to color in the squares, but more importantly it reminds me to pause and take a breath and make sure I am doing what creates a balanced and joyful. And I love, love the no buy preview. @@marykerlin994 hey there! Thank you and I’m good truly! I filmed THREE yes THREE vids is then threw each one out! I don’t even know why? Fear? Uncertainty? I’m not even sure. But I have one planned to film and load Sunday/ we will be looking at my 2025 planner choice and what journals I’m considering for The New Year. Whew. Looking forward to being back in the swing of things!
Thank you so much! I will check those out! Have a wonderful weekend!! Heidi
So happy to see your new video and to know you are doing so well! Thank you for all of your inspiration. Do you mind sharing what your little journal is and where you got both the cover and the inserts. Thank you so much!! 🤗
Thanks! So happy you are finding some inspiration! ❤ Check out this vid here and Ep 1 and Ep 3 I talk more about it: ua-cam.com/video/JarlimCiU_M/v-deo.htmlsi=ZbvXc9GouKloFmkr The cover is custom from Windrose here: www.etsy.com/shop/WindroseCustomGoods Inserts are from Amazon and some small sellers like JustGee here: www.etsy.com/shop/JustGeePaperCo
I am so glad the surgery went well and that recovery is going so wonderfully! I completely related to doing something because you have to and not finding the joy in it anymore. I was that way about creating and about reading especially. I had to read so much for grad school that the thought of reading for fun alluded me for literally years after. You've inspired me to start a happiness journal. I had one once and I used to put stuff I had to do and it was not fun seeing all the stuff I was supposed to do and didn't that I gave up. But, your approach seems more manageable. It's taken me years to give myself grace (definitely eldest daughter syndrome). Positivity is also something I'm working on as it does not come naturally to me. I need to find more washi tapes. My Michael's has ones that are just ok. I found so many cute ones online, but I can't get myself to pay $6 plus shipping for one roll. :/
@@Vanessa_crafts05 gosh I feel you! I was a SLAVE to my habit trackers for years - they were all devoted to the “shoulds” in my life - workout, water, clean, etc….ugh. That for sure wore me out. I’m so stunned at how effective the happiness tracker has honestly been though! I mean I was like yeh why not try it it can’t hurt but I had NO idea the positive impact it was going to have on me. And I had no idea cancer was coming so what timing! Life is amazing. And I love that you are finding ways to be more gentile to yourself - so good. And we can burnout on things we actually love / and pause them / and return to them again. It’s all ok. And I think, a pretty natural course. 🩷🩷 so happy you are here!
I am happy to hear your surgery went well and to see you back, looking good. Love to see the collage part of the video and I love the idea of the happiness journal.
Thank you! I’m amazed to feel as good as I do. Still tire so easily, which is a very new thing for me- I’m finding it interesting rather than frustrating so far 😂 lots of crafting meanwhile. Let’s do a happiness journals for 2025 vid - I’ll set it up as a work along session so everyone can consider making their own with me - the medical science behind it is researched and real. And my own experience lets me stand as testimony- it’s made SUCH a powerful and strong impact on my overall positive attitude even in hard( ish) times. Hard is relative isn’t it? I have so much to be grateful for. ❤❤❤ so happy you’re finding something good in this space and so happy you are here
I am so glad you are back and that your surgery went well. You are such an inspiration! Thank you for another super interesting video 🙏❤
Thank you! I forgot to mention in the vid but the pathology came back 48 hours after surgery and confirmed I am indeed cancer free. What relief and so happy to put that chapter into the rearview! Glad you are finding something here - I really enjoy this space. I am happy you are here!
Yay!!!!! Was hoping you’d be back soon. Glad to hear your surgery went well. 🙏🏻You look great. Loved loved this video. The creative process is so fascinating to me and I have discovered that I’m at my overall best when I’m creating. Enjoyed everything you had to say about what hinders your process. For some reason I feel a real connection to you. And I had to chuckle when you began your collage overhead and pulled out a piece of paper with the word Milan on it. I’m currently in Italy and heading back to the states tomorrow via Milan. Anxious to collage my trip using my “stuff” gathered from our trip..ie: train tickets, Napkins, stickers etc. Also, if you could share how you taught yourself how to watercolor I think that would be a cool video. Happy recovery!
Thank you so much for the encouragement - these rambling vids - I swear I just pop them up and say - that's that - I make what I would watch - and that's not going to be for everyone, so the fact you find something in this tells me we are indeed kindred spirits! You've been in Italy! What fun what adventure! I cannot WAIT to hear how your post-adventure creations feel! I bet it will be so fun. When I realized the impact alcohol and some foods, otc's were having on me, and let go of them, the FIRST thing that came back to me was a feeling wonder in the mornings. Wake up and just embrace the morning time. I remember that so well as kid but I genuinely assumed we just outgrow that sensation, that it's reserved for kids. But nope, it had just been drugged and dulled (and stressed) out of me. Once I was getting long nights of clean sleep again, it was a game changer for sure. I wake up ready to create - doodle, play around, nothing that needs to be "approved" or have a final plan. And its a delight. Sets me up for a day of calm, of centered feeling and joy. I smile a lot. I'll share watercolor ideas for sure - it's still a journey for me. And I have 2025 planner/journal goals that will include some watercolor goals. I''ll make a vid soon! Safe travels and fill me in on the post-travel crafting if you like I'd love to hear!
Praying for you today. May the angels be with you 🙏🏻😇
❤
Your videos are sooo good!!! I always walk away with lots to ponder. There is so much inspiration, beauty and wisdom to be found here on your channel. Thank you! 🙏❤
You are so welcome! And thank you! I’m so happy you are finding something good here! ❤❤❤
I just bought my first tarot deck this week and I've been using it to inspire my daily journaling. Thank you for the inspiration!
Oh that's so fun! I noticed that my local Barnes and Noble has doubled their Tarot Card Section - there's a TON these days! Journaling in the morning is perfect except....its hard to get my brain into focus, so some kind of "prompt" is so helpful. And Tarot decks artwork alone are worth checking them out right? Love it. So happy you are finding something inspirational here :)
I am really enjoying this video. So much resonates with me. Attitude is so very important when dealing with life's situations. Years ago, I went through a very hard time. Whenever I needed it most I heard Reba McIntyre's Song "Walk On" on the radio. And So I walked on. Journaling and crafting have such healing properties and I am very thankfull I get to do both. I have been using the Hobonichi Techo Cousin A5 size for years and it works so well for me. The paper is wonderful and I love the monthly, weekly and daily sections. I just received my 2025 version and am a little giddy with planning its use. It is dated though and so it's not what you are looking for.
I am so happy you are finding something good here! I will pull up the Reba - don't you love a good song that gets you through the rough spots? When I was really suffering in the chemo moments, I played "let it be" by the Beatles again and again. There's a great episode on the Calm app about the phrase Let It Be - I will share that in a vid here. So, I am for sure ordering a Hobanichi :) I cant take the fomo and walking yesterday I was thinking - ok, if I skip a week or so, I will just use the empty pages for some collage - duh! I don't have a pull toward any other right now and I think I just want to try it out after legit YEARS of thinking about it. Thanks for the endorsement! Im ready to give it a try. :)
You are an absolute delight. Your videos are inspiring me to start a happiness tracker! I’ve also started collecting “paper” and collage “stuff” from some local garage sales. And have even made a few collage pages and it’s so fun!! Thank you for sharing this creative art. I’m super excited! I will definitely keep you in thought and prayer on Oct. 1. You got this, Andrea.❤️
@@marykerlin994 wow and thank you!! What a nice note to start my day! I LOVE that you are collecting things to use and loving the creative outlet. Art is as inherent to humans as breathing and food and sleep. We as a society decided suddenly there are “rules for art” you have to be an artist and to be that, you must….but that’s nonsense we are allllll artists. We all need creative time. We allow that for super young kids but as we age we start to limit it by those weird standards. Collage lets me just create for the sake of the process and quiet time. No expectations. Just fun. I’m so happy you are finding time too. Prayers are so appreciated! 🩷🩷🩷
I love Hobonichi paper. I have not had any issues with bleeding. The paper is thin, but very high quality. I prefer it to thick paper journals and notebooks. I would recommend trying it out, maybe just a small undated notebook to experiment...
Thanks! I may try it - watching a couple of journal UA-camrs and heard about the 2025 web launch crash- that was interesting! Looks like the weeks techo might be a good place for me to start - I’ll see what’s available
Trying to figure out what planner works for me right now. I'm glad to hear you change it up according to the phase of life. Happy to see you!
If you feel like it, let me know what you decide! I’m loving my little homemade, but I’m super curious about some utter brands- that Hobanichi line is really tempting to me…..hmmmm but I’m for sure ordering a Freedom Mastery just because I know I’ll use it - and it is really beautifully made ❤
@@Journals4breakfast I think I may be doing a homemade one too and tweaking it from month to month until I figure it out. I would love to try hobanichis as well. I get so overwhelmed buying online, though. I wish I had a brick and mortar stationary store by me to actually touch the notebooks.
I love that- my little “pocket brain” has dot grid pages and I use those for to do’s and notes - there is something just so flexible about the dot grid right? Happy you’re here! ❤
I use a planner and I love to decorate and make it look pretty. I use a dot grid TN for my purse and I love that I can change it up any week I feel I need a change. Thanks for sharing your journal with us.
This is so great! I have already used these words a couple of times. While I don’t work or have formal obligations to meet deadlines, I am great at self imposing them on projects and goals that I have made for myself. Then I find myself getting so anxious and feeling like I can’t breathe when I am not living up to my expectations. Asking myself what my purpose is takes me back to intention and a healthier outlook. Thanks so much for this video!
Thanks! and isn’t it so interesting how much pressure we create for ourselves? Getting my feet back on solid ground with a clear reminder of the primary purpose is essentially a daily practice for me. And when I feel any twinge of anxiety I stop and run this exercise. It’s just instantly grounding for me. ❤ so glad you’re finding good things here!
Wow! This was so interesting! Thank you for sharing ❤
I am so glad you enjoyed. I have used that five word question as a place of grounding in so many ways. If I feel even the slightest hint of anxiety - I stop, and ask myself "what is my primary purpose" its instantly calming and helps me clarify. Even for a small social gathering, that little bit of butterflies, I mean even the tiny little life experiences, really any hint of anxiety, this practice comes into play. It's been a really interesting exercise.
Great advice! Get down to the core of what's important. Sometimes we all get caught up in the weeds and forget to see the bigger picture. Thanks, Andrea. Good to see you!
Our minds are amazing right? My personal default is overcomplication and whirlwind thinking. So this exercise is so important in just finding the solid ground beneath my feet. Glad you are here! :)
