    Did you keep the 54's 80mm stem length when you switched to the Redshift? I'm 5'9" w/ 32.5" inseam and also have the 54. Kicking around moving to a 90mm Redshift stem.
    Good set of vids, BTW.

      Thanks man. Yep, I originally had a Polygon Bend R5 as my gravel bike. It came with a 100mm stock stem. I went to the Redshift and got the 80mm (I made a video on that as well). When I bought the sz 54 Checkpoint it came with 80mm as stock, so it was an easy conversion to stay with the Redshift I already had. Hope that helps! I guess you're looking for a longer stem?

      Thanks for watching the video! If you search for Ulanzi Quick Release GoPro mount on Amazon, it should come up. Here it is:

    Is that lower gearing than the stock 46/30 11-34 cassette? I'm looking for lower gearing for sure. I ride a lot of mountains

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  7 місяців тому +1

      Much lower. Just realize I removed the 2x and built it up with a 1x. The GRX 1x comes with a 38 front 42 rear. I made it a 38 front 51 rear. I absolutely love it.

    What size spacer? Or what type of spacer did you use? Planning on doing this similar set up on my checkpoint

      Spacer is 1.8mm thick. Pretty common. 🤘 Good luck!

      Garbaruk long cage. Make sure you get the one compatible for your derailleur. I have a Shimano GRX 812, made for 1x systems

    How do the GR2s compare to the GR1s? The center tread pattern looks tighter which I think means better rolling. But I always thought Trek intended for the opposite and the GR1s to roll faster. Great video. Bike looks beautiful.

      @BIIIKES  10 місяців тому

      Thanks man for the compliment. Just having fun with the channel. Normal dude trying to do his thing riding bikes. They definitely intended for the GR1s to be faster (the GR2s are stock on the Driftless), but I didn't put enough miles in on the GR1s to notice a real difference between the two tires though. My previous gravel bike had 650b 47mm WTB Ventures (file tread). I would compare them to those, however I'm in much better shape now than when I was on the previous bike, haha. My buddy still swears by the GR1s over the GR2s though saying there is a noticeable difference in rolling between the two tires (he's a more accomplished cyclist than I am). I have a huge race coming up in October, and I'm actually considering switching to the Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H's for extra rolling speed.

      @@BIIIKES that’s so funny… I’ve got an SL6 and upgraded to the 3V wheels. When switching out the wheels I put the cinturato H’s on in 45. They’re pretty solid for 70% of the rides I do…. But if there’s even a little mud they spin. Choosing tires for a “do everything” bike is tough. Gotta strike that balance. The Gravel H’s probably aren’t the answer. I’ve got a race in October and will probably swap them out after…. Just not sure what I’ll switch to.

    • @sigmanu1042

      @@BIIIKES one more thing…. If you kept the Paradigm wheels that came with the SL5, you’ve got a Bontrager hub that can be “upgraded” to 108. There’s slots to add 3 pawls and 3 springs. Total cost was about $14.

      I was literally about to ask you what race you were doing, haha. I'm doing unPAved Susquehanna in central PA. 125 miles, 10.5k (October 8th). If you're on Strava, I'd love to connect. Also, good to know about the Gravel H's. The race has some of the smoothest gravel out there, however PA weather in October is hit or miss.

    same bike here.. is the aeolus 3V pro worth the money? how does it differ from the stock wheels?

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  11 місяців тому +1

      Much lighter than stock wheels. I'm about 1-2 mph faster with these with less effort. Dustin Klein just released a new video explaining how lighter wheels "feel" compared to stock wheels.

    • @gregskinner9210
      @gregskinner9210 10 місяців тому

      I have 2 sets of these wheels, plus one extra front wheel. I like the rims on these wheels so much that I had one front wheel built with a SON dyno hub and a rear wheel built out with an Onyx Vesper hub. They are a little heavy for carbon wheels and they do get pushed around a little by side wind, but nothing like you'd get with deeper rim profiles. You can also get a slight aero benefit with favorable winds. This surprised me. I went SRAM instead of Shimano, but all are 1X. On my SL5, I went Campy Ekar and Levante wheels. The Levante wheels are nice, but I can't say their price makes them dramatically better than the Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3V wheels. The Levantes are lighter than the Bontragers--which positively affects systemic weight, if that is a concern. For me, it's not. I like the GR1 tires--and still have them on a '23 ALR5, but definitely prefer Pirelli M and WTB Raddlers because of the little bit of extra grip I get on the tire edge when cornering on softer surfaces.
