Pauper League - Izzet Control - The Combo Killer
I haven't seen your videos before, but as a newish pauper player this summation definitely sold me on watching your videos going forward. Quick question, what is a lounge room? Is this some thing they have in Australia but not the US or do you live in a college dorm or something?
on 38:15 isn't it better to start with Nettle Sentinel instead of playin Quirion Ranger and hoping it survives? If it dies and you don't draw a land, you're stuck on 1 mana. If it lives or you draw land you have 2 mana, so no upside of having Quirion Ranger at that moment. If it lives and you don't draw land, then you can play a 2 drop. If you play Nettle Sentinel, if you draw a land you can play a 2 drop, if you don't you can play Quirion Ranger + rancor/the card you drew for the turn if it's a 1cmc card or the Skirge. I mostly tend to play Quirion Ranger on the turn I miss the land drop (especially against removal decks), as she is a pseudo land drop. It's just my way of thinking though, I might be wrong.
Because of all the 2 drops in my hand I was too laser focused on making sure I hit that turn 2 Emissary into Invader. They only have like 3 untapped red sources so I was 80% certain it would survive. Your line (if we didn't hit the land) means we would only have 3 power in play instead of the 5 mine ends up having. If the likelihood of turn 1 removal existed I definitely think your line is more correct.
@ yeah 2 emissaries into invader is definitely worth the risk in this case with your expectation for the likelihood of removal
fwiw I've recently gotten back into pauper after 10+ years away (last time I played I was running Cloud of Faeries, Gush, , and Daze...) and your content (especially the format overview-type videos) has been very useful and it's what others have pointed me to in order to calibrate for the current format. I enjoy the longer-form technical play content and am not viewing the videos for entertainment beyond learning what play situations arise (and how you choose to navigate them, whether right or wrong). Even suboptimal play can be informative on the power level of a deck and its resilience, so I do appreciate that you let out some of the rough edges in less-honed decks/playstyles. Thanks for the work you put in -- looking forward to seeing what's up next!
Love all your videos and I can’t wait to keep watching! Hopefully there’s a couple more Turbofog in the future too!
I love your content. You are my favourite MTG creator. However, I hope you find more joy and inner peace in the future in whatever you want to do😊
Do you think this deck could make a comeback with essence flux downshifted and spellstutters?
hi5 & gg's. I mainly watch your content because of how well you pilot decks and how competitive your content is. I've been spoiled over the past year with the amount of videos you've managed to put out. Big fan.
I loved the Rakdos CatCow and the Dimir spirits videos, since they are interesting deck ideas that no one else has made videos on. I’m new to Pauper and one of your new subscribers, but I’ve been trying to brew a deck that is a partial combination of them. Good luck in 2025 Kirb!
Hey Kirb! You are smashing it please stop being so hard on yourself! I look forward to your vids regardless what they are 👌
I can't believe you won one of the codes. I know who you are so I'll find a way to give it to you (if you want it). Thanks for all the support you've given over the time we've been doing this. The race to 1000 subs seems so long ago now.
@Kirblinxy that race was so long ago! The rightful Creator surpassed the other! 👌 You are flying and hope you make content that makes you happy ❤️ If you need a hand or anything I can help with, you know where I am
Your data analysis and dredge play videos are the ones that has helped me the most . Keep up the good work!
I love the spikier videos, thank you for all your work!!
not much to say kirb but I love your videos and hope to keep seing them, I don't mind spice but at the same time enjoy just watching some meta decks aswell
Re: Play Points I give them out to my Polish community - asking for some memes that can cheer people up 😅 You can give them out to your country people likewise
Goated self-reflection honestly But yeah, I come here for the "weird decks played well" category Quest for 5-0 sounds interesting, could be great with good editing/cuts
Keep going❤
Your content has always been my favorite. Even the decks you don't play as well I still learn a lot.
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. Way too many comments for me to reply to them all and I don't really want to pick and choose which to reply to. Just know that I've read all of them all and appreciate what everyone has to say. We'll see if video quality improves of I just stick to what I am used to (since people seem to like it anyway).
I think you look best when you put the analyst glasses like you did here and I can only imagine the amount of work put to make videos like these is insane I am a big fan of your content as I am sure it cant be easy to make things that are this good. Its great news that you are still motivated for 2025!
I think entertainment value is when you describe your thought process so we can understand the lines and options better - I do not know what more you would expect from yourself. Love your work!
You and Kalikaiz are the two guys that granted me the interest and knowledge of pauper. That allowed me to introduce many friends to the best format of MTG! And what allowed me to move back to aus., re-establish a local pauper community and atill enjoy the format with friends new and old. Cant thank the both of you enough, it shouldn't need to be said but many viewers are here for you two AND your plays. Trying something new wont cut us off unless you're no longer enjoying what you do. And if you want some help with visual design stuff I might be able to lend a hand, just let me know! Thanks for an awesome year of content and looking forward to more 😄❤
Can you please do more tireless tribe leagues.... NO ONE ELSE does leagues on them online. and if you are unsure w your ability with the deck just do a few practice leagues first

just like your brew for spicy decks! Always support for your work,it's always a great content 🥳
Hey, I really appreciated the insight into your processes, was a very interesting look. My favourites are the data videos, they are what initially brought me to your channel, but I also really enjoy the league videos with unique decks.
Kirby, I do love the leagues content, but I think that's an extension of me enjoying your style. You are a good explainer and you have a comforting personality, great for those longer videos. This to say I enjoy the leagues content because it's you, not just because it's leagues. If you find your niche that you enjoy, I'll bet I'll enjoy it too. Happy new year!
Kirblinxy my goat
Subscribed I agree that I prefer your highly technical content over slowly playing unknown decks. Good luck in the new year.
Hey, started watching from the post mh3 data recap. Love the content keep it up!
Hey, you won one of the play point codes. If you want it just email me kirblinxy@gmail.com and I'll shoot it through to you. Yeah, that MH3 data video got my most new subscribers last year, glad you are still here enjoying the videos.
One fact is that the entire community uses and greatly enjoys your analysis of the meta game. You are a very important guy for pauper and I'm happy that you will continue making videos and growing!
I'm very happy that you're going to continue making videos! I think they are incredible and I learn a lot from their plays. I really like the videos with different decks, they are the best!
Non-gameplay videos sound really exciting! I think there's plenty of room to broaden the appeal of Pauper, presenting it either to ingrained MTG players or even to MTG beginners. You and I are on the same page with basic guides - I've been working on one myself this week while being sick. I'm trying to pick up some editing skills while I do it, so I share your sense of intimidation of learning new stuff, haha. Some ideas for handing out play points: 1. Every week (and month?), UA-cam sends out a channel summary that includes your most engaged viewers. PP might be a good way to reward them. You could also hold raffles for new subscribers. 2. Maybe you'll have videos where you include members of your community. The gameshow idea could be done with either other content creators or with viewers. You could also do some sort of community tournament like the Pauper Brew Society. PP could be prizes. 3. They could be an incentive for people to participate in polls. We're lucky to have you playing and supporting this format, man!
Big thanks you for all the dataa-nalysis, it helped me alot <3, also please give me the codes haha
I really appreciate the videos you produce! I think you crushed it with your challenge analysis and I especially enjoy it when you pop up in the videos of other creators I follow. I would encourage you to always be happy because I would rather you produce something because you want to instead of something you feel that you have to (produce that is). I think the trivia is a great idea. I don’t think “a guide to pauper” needs to be a full 50mins video. If you feel comfortable doing them I think those are more “shorts”. If you DID want to focus on the guide to pauper I would love to see you interview or have specialist players introduce the decks. It would be awesome to learn about more pilots and hopefully get more specialist players introduced to the content creator scene. I like the favorite pauper card idea but once again I think those are more short form videos instead of a long video. (You could definitely use other creators to help get the data you need! Just watch out for double counting!) Quest for the 5-0 is great but what about a quest for the 20-0? Just make a long form grind video that’s 8hrs of you just playing one deck until you go on a marathon of wins??? I will do what I can to help you stay accountable! Looking forward to watching you succeed broski!
I got back into pauper around 4 months ago after my friend discovered an emerging local scene. MTGO has been a great resource to practice and I have used your channel both for entertainment and to learn about play patterns and SBing for decks like White Aggro. Love what an asset you've been to the community, especially with the challenge data that gets published weekly.
I really like your videos, thank you for all the hard work
I'm all in for power point hell :) good analysis, I personally enjoy the long video leagues, and cherry-pick the matchups that I'm interested in All the best for 2025!
Thanks for putting all the effort into Pauper! Highlights were the analysis video, paupergeddon and the thoughtseize video. I find you quite fun and entertaining on the regular videos anyways
Thanks for your effort and your high value content, helped me a lot to learn and undertand better the format, don't give up! 😊
Very nice video, as usual. Love the black turbofog, I wish it was playable in paper too! Keep up the good work.
I'd love a deep dive on trinket mage! GL for 2025!
More like PowerPoint Heaven!
Heya Kirbi! First of all, congratz for your goals and GL with the 2025 ones. Your commentary to Geddon Rome was indeed very good (as was Kali and all the Italian staff, not gonna lowroll anyone). About the deckvideos that perform better or worse, i guess most of us have preferences in strats/colors. I either look for videos of decks i am playing/testing/want to play or the exact opposite: something that popped out of a challenge/league that is not meta (or different takes of meta decks). For example i love blue/control decks in general, i did probably watch 80% of your videos where blue is one of the colors :)
OMG ...SHUT UP! There is a Kirblinxy Dredge video that I haven't seen yet????
Please do not put me in the contest for the playpoints as I do not use MTGO.
EDIT: I also find you're usually one of if not first to try a new brew and showcase its effectiveness (e.g. dredge, catcow), are amazing to reply to comments, and ARE v entertaining despite not trying to be - authenticity triumphs. 👋Hello! Regular watcher since I got recommended your videos. Personally what I look for since I don't always have time or energy to play myself is vicariously living through high quality production, high level play, some explanation, and some level of stakes (challenges). Other than BoshNRoll and Mengucci, I honestly can't say I've found other many experienced players that do all of that at your level. This was a v fun peek behind the scenes. I personally thing you're a solid midrange player. I loved how monoR tron aesthetically looked and played awesome, and the catcow video showing wins while you realtime figured out how to pilot it (and well!). I'd love to see you pilot more aggro decks as they can be quick matches, but know there's not a lot of margin for mistakes on them sadly as they're v punishing if you miss damage a lot of the time. I never even noticed you misplay control as you did exactly what I would do haha :D We all have our blind stops but if you're not sure about piloting combo or tempo decks next time, just pull up another YT pilot. Given the amount of hours you put in tho, I don't think we can ask for more. Really glad you decided you keep with the weekly, and met your goal and I hope your channel keeps growing! ❤ RIP on being Australian. I was holding out hope you were a Kiwi, but alas no one's perfect 😝
People that enjoy watching fog are the same people that enjoy powerpoint slides. 🤣Thank you for making videos we enjoy!
I'm sorry people don't care about data analysis. Those were my personal favourites of the entire 2024.
Hey, you won one of the play point codes. Just shoot me an email to kirblinxy@gmail.com with your username and I'll shoot you back a code. Congrats! The 3rd and 4th Data analysis videos did very well, it was only the first two that had no audience. I think it was because MH3 shook up the format and people wanted to know what was good.
I had no idea how much work it was for you to collect all the challenge data, thank you so much for doing so!
