Cool deck, always love some food shenanigans with couldron familiar (+ pestilence). The harvest is pretty strong, even if it costs 3, in the deck is very decent and help you take out lands from the top, so the draw quality and card selection stand pretty high, very cool brew!
Yeah the idea started with Heaped Harvest and Cauldron Familiar and when you notice how much mana it gives you you try and find a top-end that can make use of it, which is why Pest ended up in the deck. People said Bloomburrow was bad for pauper but there had to be something in it worth playing.
Damn, the way pestilence interacts with writhing chrysalis at 1:31:25 is really cool. Creating the tokens when cast and not on entering is an upside but I guess not here!
Is there any room for Gingerbrute somewhere maybe? Especially in the gates version? More in general, do you believe the deck could have potential when fine tuned?
Probably, the gates version is still in a lot of flux with slots. This pest version feels pretty comparable to gardens in the current meta if not slightly better against some matchups. Deck looks like a meme and is pretty finnicky to play so I don't think anyone else will pick it up for challenges but I will play it every now and then when I think Mono U will be heavily played.
The gates version I did like a bit better just because it felt I could actually close out games. With this deck I always feel real close to losing even when I win. You could probably even play snuff out in that deck, I just tweaked a list from Mvanni and they weren't playing it due to budget constraints.
Hey Kirb! Thanks for all the cool pauper content you create, now with another spicy food video! I really enjoy your white weenie video's, is there any chance that your recorded your challenge top 4 from last week? (august 23) If not, is there a place where I can find a sideboard guide from you with the populair decks that were not seen on both recent white weenie video's? if correct am still missing: - Mono Blue Terror/Delver - Kuldotha Red (cause the sideboard as a whole changed a bit recently am not sure how to board it now?) - Jund Glee (Golgari Glee was covered but I don't know if the sideboarding vs the Jund version is different?) - Elves - Dimir Fae (If Glee stays on top, this deck will probably become a decent player in the meta) Keep up the great content!😀
I did not record that one. I could do a replay video, but those do take a lot of effort to make. I've had a couple of other people ask me about making that video, but I just don't know if I have it in me to make it. I also don't have much confidence in my sideboarding skills so I don't know if you want to take my advice there (if you watch any of my videos you see I sideboard differently every time for even the same matchups). I might shoot out a message to jwaves and see if we can collab on a SB guide since we seem to be the main 2 that play the deck.
@@Kirblinxy It would have been nice if it was recorded but since that's not the case and it's a difficult video to (re)create you don't have to try it if you don't want to :) It would be really cool if you & jwaves could collab on a sb guide video or spreadsheet! Hopefully he likes the idea, you can always try if he is interested in doing it!😎 keep up the great work, am new to pauper and have a background in Modern & Legacy for many years and I really like the way you explain things in all the videos👍
What are your thoughts between this version and the gates version. Is there a hybrid version to be tried that doesn't run heaped harvest but plays familiar, guardian, pest, gingerbrute, gates?
There is probably some hybrid between the two that works, we just haven't tested enough yet. I think I like the Gates one more as it feels like it can put pressure on to win games.
@@Kirblinxy valid. I feel like gates and pestilence is a little bit of a nonbo bc ramp and pestilence is kinda ideal. Maybe there's a mardu version to be explored with wildfire, ginger brute, lembas, galv blast, carrot cake IDK. Lots to be explored with cake and cat
I feel with Candy Trail you always want to Sac it to it's own ability rather than to the cat. This is probably fine, as you need some ways to gain life to offset the Pestilence. It's probably worth a test, the early game is where the deck does struggle and sifting to find lands would help.
@juribossi2684 I went 4-2 in the Saturday challenge with a gates version. Unsure which I like more. The Gates version definitely ended games easier but I lost to red twice as it was too slow with the taplands. Need to find some middle ground.
No, it won't kill it. Protection means 3 things: 1. Can't be targeted by X 2. Can't be damaged X 3. Can't be blocked by X So Pestilence is just black (mono colour) so point 2 sayd Guardian can't be damaged by it.
Seal of doom is nice and all.. But Obsidian Acolyte is hilarious. Really wrecks the broodscale players day.. Cant remove it, and as long as you have a single white mana they can't do anything. Also neither the duress version nor the snuff out version has a single answer against it. (I've seen Broodscale lists running Last Rites just to have something that can try and interact with it)
They do run Drown In Sorrow to deal with Acolyte but I doubt they would have sided it in unless they saw it. They do run a decent number of protection effects so I feel you need to hold up at least WW each turn to stop the combo. I don't know if we have that much white easily accessible most games but I do agree it would be decent here. Even works with Pest!
Have you considered running Savor over Golden Egg? You'd trade in the carddraw for removing a creature with toughness 2 or less. You'd think you'd find a target for that in most matchups early game. Late game you can just point it at your own Cauldron Familiar if the opponent has no targets
I didn't think it would hit enough in this current meta, but could be worth a try. Another person suggested candy trail, which could also be okay. Egg is definitely the weakest card in the deck so worth trying other things.
If they are playing the right win-conditions they can just stack triggers correctly and they can just combo off through the Curse. So I generally try and find other ways to stop them.
Would Crypt Rats work in place of Pestilence in the main deck? One synergy there would be to play Toxin Analysis on the Crypt Rats, then activate for B, and you will sweep an entire board.
I ran this package in my 4-2 challenge run on Saturday. The Toxin + Rats never came up in any game as there was never really a need for it. It seems great against Gruul Ramp but most other decks will have a removal spell for the rats if you try and do it. Toxin was fine just being used on Cats to trade with Terrors.
There isn't enough black mana pips in the deck for Gary to be worth it I'm afraid. I feel like a 5 mana 2/4 that only drains for 3 or 4 won't swing the matchups where it matters.
i was excited to try this spicy build! i built the maindeck just like yours but i did change the sideboard to fit my local meta better. also i replaced chainers with tithing blade for the flip potential. we actually have a baubles player at my LGS so i have serene heart in sideboard, too! sucks to see you lose that match like that, but cool of them to give you the W!
After only looking at the list, couldn’t you cut white? Don’t get me wrong, my favorite list is orzhov pestilence but the cauldron familiar plan seems better at keeping pestilence around than guardian these days with all the devoid creatures
Some ichor wellsprings could fit in place of the carrot cake to help have more things you actually want to sacrifice, and the garden land would fit well too.
mesmeric fiend could be in this to combo with the deadly disputes and eviscerators insight but idk if its worth it and if the deck is to crowded already. i just love its combo in black aristocrats decks in pauper.
Love seeing you play the current iteration of food. Thanks as always.and keep it up

It's nice that it has some weakness, as it is pretty obscene at most points in the game against every other deck.
Would really like to see more of this deck

@@Kirblinxy Thanks! Isn't part of the appeal the fact that it looks like a meme? ;)
Do you like better this version or the gates one? I guess with so many 1/1 and the guardian gates just fit naturally, even sacrificing snuff out

@EsperVeltmanMusic Second! Thanks, as long as people keep liking them I'll keep trying to make stuff.
