What an incredible sight-seven ships and a whale! 🐋🚢 Point Lonsdale really offers some amazing maritime activity. I’d love to know more about the whale’s behavior around the ships. Does this happen often here? Thanks for capturing such a unique moment!
Wow, the Wide Juliet looks stunning as it sails out at Point Lonsdale! 🚢✨ The backdrop of Victoria, Australia, makes this even more captivating. Does anyone know the ship's cargo or its next destination? Love seeing these majestic container ships in action! Keep up the great content!
Thanks for sharing. Are they always able to slow & turn to allow easier disembark for the pilot? I guess if it is busy it may be more difficult.
Great question! Slowing down and turning for pilot disembarkation must require precise coordination, especially in busy shipping lanes. 🚢 I wonder how captains and pilots manage this during peak traffic. Thanks for sharing this insight-it's fascinating to learn about these behind-the-scenes operations!
Torquay is about the same length as just one of those containers on board the ship.
I would also like the ship to be against the background of a clear blue sky. you have stable videos that cannot be said about others who give these ships expose these ships, but YOUR video is the most beautiful and this is when your ships sail against the background of a clear blue sky, without shaking the camera and without TURNING the camera unfortunately, other authors of similar filming of ships the camera IS SHAKING AND THERE IS REALLY NOTHING TO LOOK AT thank you for the seas for the ships you give us joy and happiness FOR WATCHING God grant you health and HAPPINESS TO YOUR HOME🖐🖐😊
Each container is 40ft long, and holds about 20 MT of product. So this shows the sheer volume of goods we import or export.
In such cases, they say keep it up
Not quite correct this ship is carrying a combination of both 20 ft and 40 ft containers weights vary between both sizes.
Thanks for this Daff 😊
Why did the fishing boat make it out ok but the pilot boat ended up on the rocks?
Is that a scollop dredge?
Correct!
Looks choppy..but big boat is rockn.. could it be possible the wash from the cargo ship's made it worse??
Beautifully presented fishing boat, hats off to the Skipper
👍👍👍
Three thumbs are great. Thanks Warren.
no way was that handsome wee ship built in Au
We get down to Queenscliffe every February for the hotrod run and love watching the ships come and go . Great video
Great place to visit for several reasons. Music, cars and of course ships.
Fuck yeah dusty get into it.
Bradwoods7321 Dusty is on the pilot launch Griffiths now.
@@daff.wallace2267 oh wow!!! Didn't expect that.
YEP, GREAT STUFF! A decent swell there somewhere!
Great capture love your videos
Thanks.
Well captured Daff, you must have a good lens to get that definition. Kudos to those guys onboard, living and working in those conditions is not for the feint hearted. Well done.
Thanks Chris, yes a long lens but when the wind blows it's hard to keep it still and panning evenly.
Why smaller fishing boats not need a pilot,?
They're a lot cheaper to pull off the rocks!😉
The vessel is not required to have a pilot. The skipper would have local knowledge and well versed on how to transit the heads and talk to Lonsdale VTS before they make a passage.
You weren't wrong about the bumpy ride!
2 oocl in one day Brisbane and Miami ? Excellent video
That’s because it is unloaded and in ballast
👍👍👍
An excellent demonstration of boat handling in less than ideal conditions. All power boat owners should take heed.
the 4th hole at my golf club is 334m long and fairways 35m wide. wow, stood on tee and thought how big this container ship really is.
Good comparison I've never thought of it that way.
The tanker pitched around a bit
Horrible place in that weather.
Yes can be tricky.
There is a strong weather warning for the bays. Do not go out in your boat.
Nice video!
Thanks for the visit
That looks quite challenging 😬
Have you considered putting the destination of the outbound vessels into the written graphics? I’m being lazy here but I enjoy seeing the written commentary giving us the destinations and seeing one head off to Tasmania and another around the coast to SA, WA etc. Thank you, love your work.
You don't see that everyday!🙂
Such an amazing sight! Watching the Disney Wonder inbound alongside the regulars off Point Lonsdale is fantastic. Thanks for capturing this moment near Victoria-it's incredible to see these ships navigating together!
Hi Daff. Great, sorry I missed this when you posted it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@PeterGiles-v3i Not a problem I really do have so many videos now I need to think about it. Great job on flushing it out.
@@daff.wallace2267I just got it in my recommendations today (12/11/24).
Nice video❤❤❤
How much does it cost for a pilot?
❤❤❤
No idea.
The COSCO ROTTERDAM has a bow sharp enough to slice bread.
❤❤❤
Great as usual, though i tend to feel seasick when watching the pilots launchs going up and down lol😊
They are interesting to be aboard in rough weather.
❤❤❤
We rely on all overseas shipping because we had to pay our seaman high wages. We used to have a few Australian ships but they went the way of neo liberalism
As Pete Crenshaw, from The Three Investigators, would say, 'I'll buy a double helping of that!".
❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your perspective! It’s true-shipping industries worldwide have seen significant changes due to economic pressures and labor costs. The shift has certainly impacted local fleets in many countries, including Australia.
I.must get down there 🎉
❤❤❤
👍👍👍
Hello Daff, great effort, almost as good as sitting on the beach watching it happen. Few appreciate how good the watching experience is at the heads👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Appreciate the thumbs up.
❤❤❤
Hi Daff a big ask, is it possible to do a video from 1 of the passenger ferries as they transit the bay. Stay well. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@PeterGiles-v3i I think I have already done that it was short run from Sorrento to Queenscliff.
Have a look back on the past videos.
Nice one Daff. It raises another of my gripes...our reliance on foreign-flagged vessels, not just for imports, but for coastal trading in essentials like fuel.
Exactly
Yes that falls on both sides of politics when our coastal shipping was opened up to foreign vessels. then the sell off of ANL.
@@daff.wallace2267 Indeed. I'll admit that when I saw ANL Gippsland proudly flying the Liberian flag inbound in one of your recent videos, I managed to build up quite a head of steam. I sailed on the coast, mostly in tankers between 1965 and '75.
❤❤❤
Great video, showing the effects of weather and tides on shipping
Thanks for the observation!

Fantastic videos. Thank you from Point Lonsdale!

Thanks for the compliment.
Nice video!
A great half hour of ship-watching. Thanks 😊 so much for posting this video.
Glad to know you enjoyed it! Thanks.
Greate Video!
How many pilots and ships are there.
Three seperate pilot companies work out of Queenscliff they each have their own launches. As for the number of pilots I'm none the wiser as they all run in a roster at each company.
I like it!
Nice video ❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!
