Looking at the rolling motion, the ends of the bridge must have been moving through an amplitude of at least ten metres. I’m sure it was a lot more violent than it looked.
The ship would make a nice liveaboard with a couple of million dollars worth of concrete in the bilge for ballast and a couple of shade sails on deck for the summer!
Nice video...I wonder what the back story of Pilots is, how do they become a Pilot, what's there training, qualifications and what is there job like, a video from Port to Ship and back would be exciting to see and everything in between
I wonder why it seems to have a loll to port? When it rolls to starboard, it barely makes it to an even keel, then rolls back to port. Cargo shifted or poorly ballasted?
I do not know, there would be a lot of conditions that come into that answer. As the low point of the tide varies each day as does the high tide. These also can be effected by wind direction and strength as well. I have not heard a definitive draft ever mentioned.
Why don’t they use helicopters for pilot transfers on and off ships off the Port Phillip Bay heads like they do at other ports like Gladstone, Mackay, Bowen, Dampier and Port Hedland?
@@alanbarkley9847 wouldn’t it make more sense to use helicopters in more dangerous ports such as traversing Melbourne’s notorious Rip? The least important consideration would be the ship’s cargo, surely!
I suspect, but I don’t know for sure , that coal and iron are happy to pay for choppers to speed up the volumes. Melb not so, but definitely seems safer than the current . Botany Bay , Brisbane also use pilot boats
@@daff.wallace2267 Yes I am well aware of the principle at work! Just saying that this was worse than usual. Might even make some of these cruise liners look more attractive! It seems everything built now just looks like shit!
Another fantastic video. You can really see the rocking affect on the ship.
Thank you.
The way that pilot boat so easily cuts through those waves 👍
Thanks for the video mate, that’s a lot of white smoke even for engines working as hard as they obviously were.
Could you imagine that thing tipping over at the entrance!
The Aerodynamics of a high rise building.
@@viti8347 I don’t know how they do it. Must be a handful in a storm.
Great video
, thanks for sharing 🙏
Good job pilot 🎉
Greetings Daff, nice camera work as usual. Thank you for your great efforts in such calm conditions🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Tah!
I can't believe thay painted Wally's full name on the side of the ship.
Amazing how something so tall doesn't tip over
Exactly!
The car carrier Golden Ray capsized 2019 Port of Brunswick, Georgia in the US was a total loss
Nice camera work thank you - quite a bit of listings going on - Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it

Amazing camera work!!
Glad you think so!

great pilot boat !
A very sharp looking vessel!
7:11 - Does this count as the suspension break-in period on somebody's new Mercedes-Benz?!

Good question!
Need to have a master maritime qualification to be a pilot
Outstanding videography 👏🏻👏🏻
That's the biggest roll I've seen on a ship entering the heads.
I see there's a low down entry port for the pilot to get on & off the ship.
Yes some ships have pilot entry hatches. Look at the YM Success video for a rolling ship. ua-cam.com/video/K_fnzjoj7ic/v-deo.html
The crew of these pilot boats are not paid enough money to go out in some of the weather conditions that they have to
How much do they get paid?
They are paid pretty well tbh
@@mitchellhodges5642 It would be an amazing job.
That was awesome!!! That ship certainly had a lot of rolling from side to side. Not actively stabilized below the waterline?
Cracking video/channel ❤
Thankyou.
Amazing camera work. Made me feel seasick😅
Hope you recovered quickly.
👍👍👍
A car carrier arriving into Australia, bet it leaves empty.😅
@@ACDZ123 Australia does not make cars anymore, since 2017.
@@perpetualgrin5804 but what's funny about that?
It might have left with Toyota Camrys before Abbott.
@perpetualgrin5804 once upon a time it would of been fully loaded with Aussie cars headed to new Zealand to keep them from having to ride sheep 🐑 😀
It will be returning all the empty containers cluttering our shores

The angle of the ground swell to the course of the main leads gives the ships an uneven roll I would say.
what is maximum draft which can get through the heads at low tide.?

The chatter reminds me of the moon landings without the wind.😅
There is no orchestra on a car Carrier!
What are the big grey boxes on the deck of the car carrier?
Maybe the funnels .

The pilot boats are made at Hart Marine Mornington. Unsinkable
Correct very good construction.

Seems to be choppers at Coal and iron ore ports only
..also Newcastle. If you watch FR24 you will see the chopper fly out, drop off the pilot and return to base.

This is Victoria where all things are controlled by Unions. Don't expect modern methods to apply here.
Man that ship is ugly well filmed though thanks
Probably full of dirty, useless, expensive EV Firebombs.
Personally, that's one ugly ship!
Built for a purpose, carrying cars yes a box is effective storage shape.

Gotta be more Chinese E.V.'s
Must be an awful thing to sail. A big empty box, with little difference between empty and loaded.
