I'm fat and over fifty. I rarely wear makeup, and am often very grumpy about things. I have opinions. So many opinions. So I'm here to share all these highly offensive opinions about witchcraft with you, you lucky people!
The Stupidest Yule Purchase You Can Make!
Witchy Aesthetics: Seasonal Decorating
Meat & Two Potatoes: Stupidest Ever Yule Purchase
Positive Bit: Hang on in there, better times are coming
The weeks Witchy Aesthetic is talking about the joy of seasonal decorating, and having a seasonal home all year round. It's not grumpy. I'm so sorry. What can I say? It snowed. I was happy!
Meat & Two Potatoes: SUPER GRUMPY. I found the stupidest thing EVER. If you buy this, I am coming round to your house and shouting insults through your letterbox. Which will be entertaining if you live in the States and have one of those cool little boxes at the front of your property. We don't have those. I won't shout into one of those....
Positive Bit: It's been a rough few weeks for anyone in any kind of minority. I see you, and you are not alone.

Pagan Retail Therapy (& a rant about YULE BALLS)
Переглядів 4,9 тис.День тому
I said the phrase, "Yule Balls" way too much during this video. I can only apologise. I stand by everything I said in the Retail Therapy section though! Stick around to the end to find out some of my plans for this channel in the new year!
The Most Important Word in Witchcraft

Witchy Aesthetic: I've got a question for GOC viewers! Please leave a comment with your opinion (even if it's a bit rude, I find the rude ones quite funny!) Meat & 2 Potatoes: What is the most important word in witchcraft, and why it is the key to developing your practice. Positive Bit: I appear to have started a coven! Woohoo!

Pagan Handicrafts (AKA: Nobody Needs More Cr*ppy Resin or Exploding Candles....)

I've had a drink. Nobody is safe. Apologies in advance. I take aim at crappy resin craft, exploding candles and "tarot readers" who read out of books. Sorry. But not VERY sorry, frankly. And the maker of my splendid new pendant is Paul Chaplin, who is apparently on Facebook as "Greenteam Jewellery" or so the business card says! Check him out! He's brill!
Make your own Incense
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Місяць тому
I'm starting an incense club for friends and FB group members. The idea is that I send out a small amount of incense for each Sabbat, each one tailored to the time of year and workings that surround it. My first one is for Samhain, and I've filmed it, so that you can duplicate this at home and make your own! Some of it is stuff that I grow or forage near home (and I live in a city, so anything ...

[EDIT: I just realised that I didn't put my "Meat & Two Potatoes" title in. Whoops! Sorry!] I'm having a jolly good rant about rhyming couplets in spells today. Drives me batty, so it does! On the other hand, I have a particularly good viewer's comment to respond to and exciting news about an appearance on That Divination Witch's channel, which is pretty damn cool! Also, she's lovely, so check ...

I've been asked several times to do a few videos explaining stuff. There are a lot of excellent creators out there who do great educational videos - @HearthWitch @TheOakWitch @TheNorseWitch @IvyTheOccultist are some of my favourites. I'm just dealing in my own thoughts and opinions here, so feel free to take what works for you, and leave what doesn't. I'm aware that I tend to ramble a bit, so s...
Smug Christians Lecturing Pagans: I HATE IT!
Переглядів 5 тис.2 місяці тому
I detest smug, evangelical Christians trying to make out that their beliefs make any kind of sense at all whilst claiming that mine do not. The scientific findings of Suzanne Simard have gone a very long way to proving that earth-based religions (particularly Druidry and Gaiaism) actually make more logical and provable sense than Christianity. I did mention the Stephen Fry vs. Ann Widdicombe de...

I'm back after a whole lot of being ill and going on holiday and being ill again, and then going to a festival and finally getting bloody Covid for the umpteenth time. And this time I am looking at another one of the ways in which arseholes with no actual knowledge or qualifications in witchcraft are trying to make money off the back of people just trying to start their witchcraft journey. Magical Colouring In Books: the Ultimate Insult to Witchcraft.... (Also: I am having a very bad day)

I kind of lose it today. And why? Magical Colouring In Books. And I don't mean those pretty books with complicated pictures of fish and mermaids. I mean books marketed as being educational to adults, that you have to colour in. Yes, they exist. And yes, I looked at them. And yes, I got ridiculously angry. #witchcraft #witchy #rant #crone Also: my very bad day. And why people who identify as men...

Little fucking bluebell dresses are the thundering limit! 😂 Actually Tinkerbell was pretty nasty.
Years ago, I did the pilgrimage to Salem, Massachusetts. I went to Laurie Cabot’s store and was stopped in my tracks when I saw “her” BOS on display & for sale. Confused & curious as to why her BOS was on sale let alone publicly available, I inspected it more closely. It was a nicely decorated product for purchase, along with some others. I was sadly disappointed to see something labeled a BOS, a sacred tool imo, reduced to a marketing tactic for tourists 😢
This really validates my feelings, and relieves some concerns about the practice. Thank you for giving us your wisdom.
I was heartbroken when my very local (5 minutes walk from my house) esoteric shop closed. The owners have another location in another city (totally different part of the countrhy), but that doesn't help me. Fortunately there's another one that's in my area, but it's farther away and more of an effort to get to, so it takes motivation to go out and get supplies.
I think Vietnamese fashions for men are eye opening, and inspiring.

"feels a bit jk rowling to me" made me and the boyfriend crack up. youre so right.
not a guy but i do love one and he says "peasant shirts and better pants".. he is also in a wheelchair and has a lot of trouble finding nice pants that actually fit his wide thighs and skinny calves.
Ah yes, a seventies Christmas 😊I remember them well! To be fair no one had any money in the uk, there was high unemployment and riots, it was an interesting decade to grow up in! My mum went all out, balloons, tinsel, and paper chains ( my sisters and I made) peppermint creams and angels made from paper doilies that we made at school. Let’s face it, the seventies is referred to as the decade that good taste forgot with good reason 😂 on a more serious note, your ‘positive bit’ made me choke up a bit, I’m currently studying in the safety of nighttime, when everyone is safely tucked up in bed. Wondering if I will be hunted down by angry villagers with torches and pitchforks! I’m reading as much as possible and watching a lot of UA-cam just your lovely self, hearth witch and oak witch ( thank you so much for the recommendation by the way!) and your last statement of empathetic kindness and compassion resonated deeply 😢 so thank you for that , oh by the way, your hair looks gorgeous! So shiny and the plait looks very pretty ❤
i am a crocheter.. its hard not to get acrylic when youre broke! and its easy to wash. i try to use cotton when i can but sometimes i end up buying acrylic. im going to try going forward to stop. ❤
I just came across your channel. I am so happy to have found a kindred spirit. Finally someone else who is fed up with the bullsh*t that abounds out there concerning our ancient craft. Keep it up!!
So much bullsh*t. We should all be calling it out!
We did have "brown-outs" in the later 1970s in New York, to avoid having blackouts due to the energy crisis... and then there was the "Night of Terror" blackout in NYC in 1977. Very stressful times!
As someone who comes from the land that just "voted" in Dumbf*%k a L'orange(supposedly--- since I feel jiggery-pokery was involved) I can't help but like the fact that these coloring books can provide an enjoyable, non-threatening exposure to topics that are often demonized by the religious (control) freaks on my side of the great waters. If I could find one that is sufficiently simplified, and I had children or grandchildren, it would be an easy project to do together and an opening for discussions to fight the stupidity. Believe me, the armor of open mindedness is needed, because I have actually met someone whose mother castigated her for getting her cat spayed since she viewed it as denying the cat her "god-given" role of mother! Anyway, they have bible story coloring books and nobody expects those to be adequate preparation for a divinity degree, so why not witch themed ones?
I really do hate that we’ve reached the end of late stage capitalism where traditions are commercialized, bastardized, and then sold back to us as a way to belong to our ancestors. I don’t mind modernization of traditional ceremonies, but we’re so far removed from even that now.
Never a truer word spoken. We need to hold on to a bit of homespun authenticity and reject the polished AI-friendly version of whatever they want to sell us.
people yelled at me for opposing resin pagan/wiccan crafts. i dont understand how someone drawn to nature-based religions and spiritualism also go so hard for something that produces so much waste and toxic fumes. people sell these things as offering plates and incense stick holders and ash trays but often the consumers and the crafters themselves dont know that heating those resins releases toxic fumes. its so frustrating
It’s not a Jul Logge..it’s a Jul Twigge
The algorithm could have been a lot worse for you lol 😂 Yule bolz! Thank you for cheering me up 😊
Any time!
It’s all about instant gratification. “I don’t want to wait! I want it all now!now!now!” When I’m 100 I will still be learning how to…… People don’t question the gatekeepers of modern surgery, so why do people object to gatekeeping the practice of witchcraft? An uneducated, inexperienced witch can hurt people.
I'm totally with you on the over commercialisation of christmas. Even in my lifetime (mid 80's era), it has changed so much. I do the whole putting up decorations and giving presents more for the kids, but once they're older, we will be toning it down to more a Yule celebration. We do a little of both already, but we certainly don't make it a stressful time or end up in debt over it. I seriously hope it doesn't go too far with the commercialisation of panganism. You see a lot of it with the 'Witchy Aesthetic' people already. I also really liked the heartfelt positive bit. I'm only recently stepping out the broom closet. The door is open a crack, but I'm not quite there yet. My husband also practises, and my kids love that mummy is a witch, but everyone else I don't really make it obvious to them. Like yourself, I had to also bottle up my practise for a good 11 years with my ex. I feel like I have so much catching up to do. I'm so glad you were able to open up again and take off the mask. I'd love to see a video more about your own practises and what you do and don't like.
I'm totally going to do some videos based more around what I do - not a single video, but a series of them :-)
regarding candles, I wonder if Yankee candles here in the US vs the UK are kind of like the difference between Heinz ketchup in the US vs the Heinz in Canada. In Canada the ketchup (catsup) is made from something like four normal ingredients - tomatoes and vinegar high amongst them, in the US it's a paragraph of unpronounceable chemicals. Because walking by a Yankee Candle store here is like being hit by a wave of faux-floral toxins, maybe they make them with nicer ingredients for export ... like the Heinz in Canada, which is SO much nicer.
I'm glad you always take the time to call out ridiculous products marketed to pagans and witches. our practices becoming nothing more than buzzwords, advertisements and ~aesthetics~ makes me really sad. "witchy" social media had become completely unusable because of it, I can't even just look up "witchcraft" to find people to follow without being shown courses for €99.99 to unlock my ~divine feminine energy~ or overpriced crystals promising me for just €29.99 for an amethyst cluster I can manifest my dream life. it's supposed to be a practice you can do with things you already have, things you find in nature, or one time purchases for your fancier tools, which ideally we wouldn't own more than we need. in many cases, the traditions come from poor people doing the best with what they had. $50 for a log is just not the spirit of anyone's practice. Additionally, now that it's on my mind, I'd absolutely love to see you cover ~divine feminity~ influencers. They're insane! I've seen some that always whisper because talking at a normal volume is masculine, or some that tell you to quit your job because working is masculine, or horrible lines like "do this and your man will treat you like a little girl!" (which is apparently something we should want for some reason?) Nothing about it is based in tradition or spirituality, and is just a way to farm insecurity and sell various products. I need a grumpy old crone to tear these people to shreds, it would heal my soul. <3
Wishing Cone 😂😅
So magical. Or possibly "magickal"...
😂😅 😲. 🤣😂😮. The price, pardon my French, bloody hell.
Your french is right up there with mine!
Speaking of Yule Logs, I also grew up in the 1970's and like you we would have the traditional chocolate log but also we would have a small wood log which we would decorate and have a hole in it where we would stick a candle. I don't know if you had the wood lig with a candle stuck in it, please let me know either way.
Nope, no log with a candle! Only candles were on the saucers during power cuts...
I just had a quick look on Google again and I can't believe that I have found both Spring Christmas Trees and Summer Christmas Trees. Also some decorations to go with the trees.
Wow. Just... wow....
thought you had a tardis on your bookshelf but its just a blue binder lol. i make people soaps for gifts, i hope people dont hate them lol!
❤❤❤
This is so strange that you bring this up. Recently I was thinking along similar lines. I wondered if I could find plastic trees as well as Ornaments gor Spring, Summer , and Autumn as well as the usual Winter/Christmas tree and decorations. I found quite a few for Autumn but very lityle for Spring and Summer. Like you I would love to celebrate all 4 seasons. If you could advise me and help me with Spring and Summer's I would be very grateful.
I think I need to do some more seasonal decorating videos!
Thanks so much for sharing, especially the positive bit. A chocolate yüle logge sounds delicious! ✌🏼😋🪵
They are very delicious indeed!
You have to make one! It’s possibly a British thing ( like mince pies )But honestly, it’s delicious! 😊
I’m looking forward to the bag of chips video. 😄👍
Lots of vinegar! Yum!
One red cent, oof.
But it's MY red cent, not UA-cam's!
I love you, and can't wait to watch your channel each week...❤
That's really kind, thankyou!
i don't see why it's difficult to come out of the broom closet, but then i suppose i don't pay much attention. all i see is how open the upcoming witches can be now (maybe too open). i never advertised about being "pagan" and still go along with the other people in my family who are of mainstream religion. truly, i've found that most people around me (even in virginia) just don't care what i believe or practice.
that's very lucky for you but some people live in areas or are in social circles where witchcraft is considered evil and cult like. I live in rural ireland and I have to be careful who I share my practice with.
I'm super lucky that I don't have this problem now, but having a public facing job means sometimes you get confrontations you don't want. When I was a member of a Christian church, my vicar decried everything that was not mentioned in the bible as demonic. And several things that were. Had I come out of the broom closet and left that particular church, you can BET they'd have done an intervention on me, and it would not have been pretty.
Agreed. I'm lucky now, but it took a big chunk of bravery to be open about it. Putting a witch on a tattoo that is visible 365 days a year, 24/7 was a scary thing, but I'm glad I did. But I'm super aware that there are a LOT of people that don't have that privilege.
@GrumpyOldCrone such a shame.
@k4nd1incyb3rsp4c3 yes, that's really sad 🩵
Oh great. Now I'm crying on a train. Just going through milton keynes so people will just think its that.
Could be worse. Could be Stevenage.
1 penny! celebrate!
I intend to! Woohoo!
jealous about the snow! as a pantheist i decorate my home for each of the 4 seasons, however, like you, my altar changes very little. i have certain (most) things that stay and then i will put one or two (small) seasonal items on. i have a problem with witch bottles (in general). i confess to having a "special" log that i decorate with scarborough four and ribbon and my family members tuck in papers with wishes(very fun for the children) which is then burnt in the fireplace (on the winter solstice). also, i've had my guy create a log that has places for tea lights (he had the correct drill bit). it stays in my fireplace the rest of the year. being in virginia, i was convinced it wouldn't get cold enough for an actual fire. it cost us 15 minutes of time in order to find the "right" log and another 15 minutes to drill. the commercialization of allllll holidays is nothing new and has been just awful since day 1.🩵
So... what's Scarborough four, please?
@GrumpyOldCrone parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Lmfao I have been saying Yul Bools since watching the video. I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one. I also had my life completely shattered and it changed me forever in 2017. 2018 was just as traumatic so I understand that tower card. I came out of the broom closet and no one was surprised lol I’m out and proud!!
Sounds like we had similar paths - I raise a glass to freedom!
Laughing. As the saying goes, a fool and their money are soon parted. Exploiting the naive isn’t cool though.
21:03 I have had the same log for 30+ years now. It's around 20" long. I picked it up off the covenstead's grounds. I decorate it with holly and ivy. It does hold three candles: white for the Maiden, red for the Mother, black for the Crone. It gets lit on Solstice but resides in the hearth of my useless fireplace from about now through the first week of January. I'll bring you more fleece in February. The autumnal fleece are all on sale at Joanne Fabrics now. Love you!
EVERYONE! THIS IS MY ADOPTED MOM! (And witness to the JoAnn Fabrics breakdown....) She's the best. Love you, too <3 (Thanks for the fleece - I won't say no, I mourned the mess that Jinks made of the last one....)
I remember the crepe paper! It had a distinctive dusty, slightly acid smell.
I'd forgotten that! But you are absolutely right. And always very slightly dusty....
That popular Wicca misinformation was also a huge pet peeve of Scott Cunningham’s! He practically dedicated a chapter in one of his Wicca books explaining that this is a completely modern religion inspired by the Old Ways of ancient indo-euro pagan traditions and beliefs. When he described it’s shamanic in nature, he made sure to lay the message straight that not as in a direct lineage to any ancient culture’s tradition.
Oh wow, that ending was beautiful, u made me teary. I really love what you're doing on here. Your approach is so refreshing. Its been bothering me what has happened to witchcraft lately, it's portrayed as just a style, a fashion choice. Thank you for bringing back legitimacy and calling out the nonsense. You're fantastic fun, please keep doing these videos. The world needs more funny outspoken genX snark, I mean, how else will the kids learn! Thank you Annie, you rock xx
Thankyou so much :-) I'm having a blast here, so have zero intention of stopping!
After working in retail for so long, trust me that warning not to burn the log anywhere but a fireplace is needed! It turns out that common sense isn't really all that common. I keep track of the sabbats with a seasons tree. It's just a foot tall tree that I change the decorations on depending on the time of year. I have it full of dried mums & maple leaves eight now but I'll switch over to more yule style in another week or so.
I like the idea of a multi-season tree. That's pretty cool....
Wax dipped pine cones would be used to kindle a fire. But I wouldn’t pay for them- and definitely not that much!
Exactly - perfect firestarters. But not at $21CAD a pop...
My grandmother had a silver birch log with holes drilled in for candles. My mother still uses it. We used to twine ivy strands around it. My grandmother as a devout Christian was uncomfortable with this but felt that it was not only "proper traditional" but if she was truly Christian it wouldn't/shouldn't bother her. She also taught us how to make two big holly and ivy balls to hang in the hall
That's pretty cool!
Out of curiosity why did you put the Ivy on if you guys knew it was making her uncomfortable? Doesn’t matter the reason it did, but it did anyway
Lovely to catch up! I can imagine someone who pays ££ for a hot glued log would put it on their dining table and light it…
As mentioned a couple of comments previously, it's wise never to underestimate the amount of common sense some people have.
Does winging mean complaining as we say in the us?
Yes, whinging = whining
Exactly!
I once wrote a letter to Santa on fancy parchment paper, and left an offering of a glass of green chartreuse, as a spell. It was very effective. Uncannily so. I got exactly what i asked for, which turned out to be not something I wanted after all!
I'm disappointed, Santa!
Canadian dollars? It's not even like Canada has a shortage of logs, is it?
Well known as a sandy, hot scene of empty desolation, Canada. Hmmmmhmmm.
I'm definitely in the "broom closet," having come out of a pseudo-christian cult. It took years to free my mind and soul from the web that had woven within , nd even now, after so many years , I still find the odd cobweb i have to sweep away. Funny how, as a child, I always felt an affinity for mother nature and have a knack with critters both wild and domestic so much so that others have noticed and commented with some discomfort about it. My father used to refer to me as the "earth mother" and seemed pleased to call me that...even a little proud. Here i am, a 70 yr old crone and tired of pretending. Just my luck that here in "Murica" they've embraced christian nationalism - just when I've gotten most comfortable with who i really am! I just love your "whinging" and find validation as most often your thoughts echo mine completely! Well, as they say, GMTA! Anyway, thank you for this channel, you are a voice of sanity and truth in all this insane and desperate mess we've gotten ourselves into! It's greatly appreciated. In heart and spirit Susanlee 👍✌️🫶😊
I'm sorry for the indoctrination - that's hard to get your head out of, I know. I'm so pleased to have found people like you, too <3
