My friend had a handfasting ceremony to celebrate 10 years of marriage. It was the first time I'd been to one and loved it. My son went to one in Scotland at the weekend and also said how amazing it was. I was asked to do a wooden plaque for a present too which I was more than happy to make too 😊
@GrumpyOldCrone from what my lad told me they had the ceremony in the ruins of an old church which was positioned on the edge of a beach on the Isle of Withorn which I believe is in Dumfries and Galloway
Sherwood Forest! We must be neighbours. I performed a handfasting for a dear friend around 2009 (I think), it sadly didn’t stay the distance, and the handfasting cords were released into the sea with a different celebrant (not the right word under the circumstances). Oddly, I felt a completely unfounded sense of guilt that there relationship didn’t last.
One of the things I've learned from my own first marriage was that sometimes we should be able to think of relationships as "completed". Not failed, just... done.
I was married outside at Danes Dike 👰 Nth East coast . We had a Pastor to do the ceremony but like you , we did the Reg office before it . We had a canopy of blossom trees and the isle was a pathway to the white cliff and beach 👍🙌The park ranger was happy to help and allow us to use this little area side of pathway. Beautiful . We inspired 5 wedding after that 👍👩🏫🍎
That was very interesting! I have only ever heard about handfasting, never been to one but what a Gorgeous day you n hubby had by the sound of it! As someone who had a full on Catholic wedding, I can appreciate the fun of handfasting over an hour n half mass!! Although we really had a laugh at the knees up after n everyone got sloshed as they should! Thanks Annie - slightly disappointed with the distinct lack of Grumping tho!! 😆 See you next time! Love, Mel in Devon x 🍰🌻
Fellow fans! I'm doing an "all sidequests, all the time" playthrough of Witcher 3 right now... I'm depressingly overpowered. I'm just going to sit on Eredin and kill him by the time I get there.
One thing I dislike is people advertising to celebrate handfastings and charging for it on the same level as a church or registry office. As you say, it doesn't have to be someone with a 'qualification'. My wife and I handfasted a lesbian couple before gay marriage was allowed and they were expecting to pay well over £100. We just saw it as a privilege.
There is nothing wrong with being a grumpy old crone. I am a grumpy old man, whose joints constantly click every time I try and move a muscle. I actually quite enjoy joy it as well.
There is also this really interesting passage in one of the books by Carlos Castenada in which his mentor, Don Juan, speaks to him about the significance of joint clicking.
I am meandering my way through your excellent vlogs and just wanted to say thank you for sharing your handfasting story. So lovely. and shout-out for Winnipeg! I was ridiculously excited. My farm is in the same province and yes the struggle is real with mosquitoes ..sky-clad rituals are problematic :D
Our friends got handfasted at the Rollright Stones (with the appropriate permission) and 2 coach loads of Japanese tourists happened to turn up and must have wondered what an earth was going on, but they stayed watched and applauded. We later found out they thought it had been put on specially for them 😂😂😂
i love grumpy men with a sense of self irony :) nothing under 45 is interesting. I love a good eyeliner too and being active. Im just lucky that i am funny and love to laugh, and I get extra points for snort-laughing. Always. Its like the biggest test and results that one eheheheh:D
We are both on our 2nd marriage, live in an 'almost' ruin in rural France, poor as church mice but my goodness we are fabulously happy ❤❤❤ we got married in Oxford registry office (all over in about 15 minutes) then drove to the Savernake forest and had a handfasting among the trees, camped and partied (respectfully) all weekend in 2014, then ran away to France 6 months later ❤ Edited to add, there is a fabulous little camping site in the Savernake and they created our own little private area in the trees to hold our celebration. We didn't just rock up and camp willy-nilly 😂😂
Missed you, glad to have you back Thanks for explaining your wedding and how to go about one. Our country is the same with the rules Dance around the bonfire??? We still in winter back here, maybe over Christmas when the weather is warmer. OK, light a candle in the shower - love that😍😍
Thankyou! Fall/Harvest sums up this season pretty well for me, tbh. And I'm stoked that my favourite homeware stores are starting to stock proper autumnal decor, and not just spooky comedy stuff!
Yup! My adopted mom and pops live about an hour outside Indianapolis :-) I love visiting them - it's like stepping into "It's a Wonderful Life" small town life - fabulous! (and the corn is AMAZING)
@@GrumpyOldCrone I’m in Indianapolis! Haha it’s always wild hearing other ppl talk about this state or city because we are so often very under the radar 🤣🙏 B B ♥️🤍🖤
Hey lovely! hope you are doing good! Keep up with your channel I love it haha I shared it with some of my followers too. I don't know how else to contact you, but, I am starting a podcast type series I would love to have you on. Essentially inviting witches and spiritual people from all walks of life to come on and talk about their beliefs. What lead them to it. That type of thing. I would love to have you on! If you are interested let me know, if not all good

I so sorry about the frankly appallingly low levels of grumpiness. I shall attempt to rectify this.
We both (f+f) love The Witcher! Read the books, watched the series, and are on our 2nd playrhrough!!

My mother-in-law is a secular celebrant and she definitely isn't raking in money at it!
Yup. There is a market, but there are a lot of people bidding for a small amount of work.

Maith thú! Well done!
Here on our side of the Pond, we Pagans are recognised by the state to "marry and bury", so only one service is necessary.
So much more sensible. Our marriage rules are really dumb. Sending love to you and Pop!

Blimey, I always forget souther/northern hemisphere reversals! Definitely no naked dancing unless it's inside!
bath time candle sessions are the very best!! thank you the video Annie :) I laughed I thunk and I keep notes :) Happy fall harvest :)

I’ve come across a cockatoo but not a cockatrice lol
Similar. Buh kawk!!!!
I was terrified.
By the cockatrice, I’m hoping, rather than the handfasting….

It's not generally a great idea to take all your clothes off around a bonfire.
Depends on how many sparks are shooting off! 🤣🤣🤣
