How I learned to draw hands in a week
Drawing hands is really hard, so I decided to spend a week (non consecutively) learning to draw hands BETTER. I did a lot of art studies and practice to improve my hand drawing skills. Hopefully this tutorial will be helpful to you too.

I’m 18 and I’ve always wanted to be good at art, but I would just start, draw something awful and then give up. I bought a tiny sketchbook and I’m gonna challenge myself to actually do it. Wish me luck!

In my experience, drawing fingers as some sort of very elongated triangular shape, is the best way to get a dynamic look. I also think about them like their own separate limbs, as they technically (But not actually) are, going by the skeleton - they also have no rotations. Separate limbs that have rubber bands at the 1st knuckles going all the way around. It also makes it easier to draw a convincing out-stretched pose. Speaking of the knuckles, it's more noticeable on the toes, the knuckles are placed in a way that when you Do put them to a parallel, they interlock somewhat. And the thumb, it's just on a... idk 120 degree? swivel.

Remember, copying artstyles can be way easier for one person than another. I have never had this issue and usually only need one reference to figure out how they did it. Everyone is different.

I have a hand model, too, but it's not nearly that amazing. The palm is one solid piece of wood, which renders the thumb, and all the other fingers, completely useless. I get the feeling it's more for decoration than anything, but it is from IKEA, so I guess I should have expected that.

Really like the WIP at 7:16, I think the additional colors and highlights of the final version make it less appealing. The constrained color palette and flat colors give it a fantastic stylization that fits the design.

for fingeres I started breacking them down into cylinders so far. Ill box the shape out. Divide the distance and/or use a line as a skeleton. and then ill just use ovals for each part of the fingers to help me with where the fingers(so the intersection of the ovals are my knuckles.) Then ill outline the whole thing making the top of the fingers flatters and keeping the round of the ovals for the bottom part and just refine the fingers from there

Unfortunately, I've found that just getting photo references isnt enough for complex, in-motion hand poses. You need to know how it feels to move your hand that way, because somehow even if an observer has never done or seen that action, they will still intuitively know if you're drawing from a motionless reference. Now I have to learn card tricks. >:S
