This shows a relatively easy way to kill the Thargoids. Not much skill is required - just point and shoot mainly. The method is based on having the right ship (strong ship) and weapons, and using it in the right place counts a lot more than the actual combat technique. I subsequently tried the Anaconda, and it's just like I though. The guns are more accurate, but it's not quite as strong. Overa...

      Thanks for your comment. I made this video because I was getting in frequent arguments on various forums, where people were always recommending the Cobra as the best first mining ship. I actually got banned from all the main forums, basically because I proved them wrong and they didn't like it. I think my two most useful videos are on how to mine for money and the two on Pirate massacre missions. The Thargoid ones are no longer valid because of changes in the game. Were you playing in Solo or Open play? Thanks for the tips, I was able to buy a vulture after my second set of missions. I'm on my 4th set of missions and there doesn't seem to be any more pirates. I got a message saying they are aware of my mission and have dispatched ships to track me down. OK, so I exited and entered again and the pirates spawned again. Much slower rate than you show in the video. I'm on horizons btw. I think they have updated to stop commanders from doing what you were doing in the video. It's still good money, but not the 200 million an hour that you were getting.

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 4 місяці тому

      It's in solo because you always get interference if you try to make a UA-cam video in open. Each time you arrive, you get a different spawn of ships - only small ships, only big ones, mixed, lots of ships, not many. If its not what you want, log to the menu and back again to reset it. The best spawns for massacre missions are mixed big and small ships, so if you don't see big and small within a few minutes, probably needs to logoff and on. When you arrive, yellow square tops on the radar signals is also a good sign of it being a good spawn. I made a follow up video on how to optimise these missions, which you should see once you have the basics figured out. I give several useful tips in that one, including some combat tactics. There's also a bit about spawns: ua-cam.com/video/4vEF1ZyTZCo/v-deo.html

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 5 місяців тому

      The quickest way to make money is to use a Vulture in a low RES. A T10 is too slow, and so are the other big ships. The T10 is the best ship for AFK because it has the most turrets, but it only works AFK with full engineering. Normally, when you have a few billion, you should first unlock the Guardian modules, then work your way through all the engineers.

    Thank you sir for your excellent instructions and taking the time to do the series. One thing im struggling with is the amount of pirates i can kill in an hour. i'm only managing 6 or 7 in a 45 min playing time. Im not in the same place as im trying to rank up with the feds. • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 5 місяців тому

      Re-logging in the main way to get more pirates. It takes a while before you can recognise the signs of a good spawn.Also, you should use the same ship and load out as I do. Lastly, you have to do it in a LOW resource extraction site because the pirates are much quicker to kill there.

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 7 місяців тому

      The pirates will attack you if you have any cargo in your hold. You should be able to outrun any as long as you start running before they attack. If you log out during a mining session, you need to be ready to run as soon as you log back in. About 10 to 20 boosts is normally enough to run them off the radar and a bit more to be able to mine in peace. It also happens when you got an accidental bounty on you. In that case go to a station in any low security system and the Interstellar Factor there will sort it out for you.

    Hugh, what can i say.... It's taken me about a week from being completely new and smashing around in a sidewinder never quite understanding what i was doing. Started with a sidewinder and got stuck because i couldn't figure out how to travel the huge distances to get to your systems (in the guide). Ended up getting a hawler and learning about fuel scoops, travelling and minor trading. Earnt enough for a Cobra mk3 and had some fun using that but didn't seem to make much cash (poor combat skills), bought a Dolphin (following another guide to make some money) and kitted it out for cargo runs (72 tons per go). Earnt enough and bought your Vulture and struggled to understand the build, i kept going over the Power requirements, truely screwed something up and couldn't take off from the port - got blown up for trespass!!! Figured out what i'd done wrong and changed things --- had to still compromise on thrusters and used a 5d(?) instead of the 5c(?). Left me a tiny margin but it worked. Toughened up with more module armour and set off for Mainani. Following your guides and advice i've now done 2 runs, not as quick or good as you (combat is getting better though), first run of about 90 minutes and nearly completing my first run i shot the wrong ship and got blown to bits by the police, back to prison again 😞 Started again yesterday and completed a run (20 Pirates x 5), tonight just succeded my 2nd run. Took your advice and i've gone for reputation or rare articles instead of cash - still made about 30 M. from the 2 runs. Really enjoying this, having some cash definately improves what is possible without having to grind for weeks and weeks trading or doing small stuff. Love the game play, a real adrenaline rush when you've pocket full of bounties and have been sweating for nearly 2 hours to complete thes packet runs. Did you say during your vulture build that your next ship would be a chieften?? Thank you so much for explaining everything and sharing your skill and passion, what a great game 🙂🙂🙂 Cheers!

      You're bringing back my very distant memories. There are tears forming in the corners of my eyes. It looks like you're on your way now - still loads of stuff to try and find out. I've done about 13,000 hrs and still find out new things. The Vulture is the best un-engineered ship for pirate massacre missions. The Chieftain just beats it when they're both fully engineered. What I'd do now is knock off a couple of billion, then sort out the Guardian modules, then work your way through the engineers. When you've done all that, use any of the main money-making methods (pirate massacres, platinum mining, biology scanning) to make another 6 billion to get your Fleet Carrier, then maybe go and tackle the Thargoids. Make a list now of all the engineers and what you need to do to unlock them because you can do some of the stuff now without extra work, then do very tasks in paralle rather than the boring and tedious way of doing all the tasks one at a time, like trading in 50 different markets - every time you visit a station, buy and sell a ton of something. Look out for stations with active black markets - you only need to trade in 5 of them, etc.

    I skipped the Type 6 completely by using the sidewinder in the Haz-Rez resource extraction site and followed the security forces around. When the police start to shoot a ship scan it wait until the shields drop and fire at it a couple of times. When the police kill it you receive the bounty. I learned that technique from Hawkes gaming's Elite Dangerous best start guide. However if I were to use mining from the very start I agree that the Type 6 heavy is a very good choice for the first mining ship. After just two full cargo platinum mining runs I would upgrade to the Asp Explorer for my mining ship though. The higher class modules gives the Asp Explorer a 10 LY jump advantage and about a 100 LY range advantage the Asp also handles way better do to having larger thrusters. After you save up about 150 million credits you can switch to a Python and equip 4 2A mining laser's and haul 128 tons or ore, the Python handles better than the Asp Exp but both it's jump distance and range distance are shorter than they Asp, however you can fit a 6A fuel scoop on the Python which mitigates the shorter overall range problem. After you save up about 400 million credits you can switch to the Anaconda which runs the 4 2A mining laser's even better and has 256 tons of cargo capacity.

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 8 місяців тому

      Good stuff. It's not really worth upgrading to the Asp from a T6 for mining. It is better, but by the time you've found one and outfitted it for mining, you could have mined enough for a Python using the T6. It's a close judgement between the Anaconda and a Python. I think the Anaconda wins when fully engineered, but without engineering, it's too slow and dangerous. I can average 125 million per hr using a Python with very light engineering and selling to the normal market rather than a fleet carrier.. I' don't think an Anaconda can get close unless it has engineering.

    It's a steep learning curve! But getting there slowy but surely thanks to your guides. Did a little bounty hunting and got to 1 million, next day did the same and earned about 1.3 M then lost it all by carelessly shooting a police/security ship - that put me in prison light years away from Wyrd. Had another go this morning , was alot more careful and earned another 1.45 M so i now have a bit more than 2.7 M. Probably about 3 hours or so in total. Now in Dummata, unfortunately can't buy many ships here. I think the nearest shipyard that does is GOMAT - Cayley dock but even at just 12.5 Ly distance there's no available route. So i'm feeling a bit stuck. Is the only way to overcome the distance limitation to buy a ship with more range? i'd like to get to a more poulated place with good Tech and the chance to earn some cash. I might have to hitch a lift 🙂 Your first two guides have been a great help, trying to keep calm and keep an eye on everything in the heat of battle is not as easy as you make it look - but deffinately doing better than a few days ago. Cheers!

      It would probably be better in the long term to buy any fuel scoop you can and any upgrade to your FSD, bearing in mind that you need power to run it, then travel to the places that I show. Don't forget to set your route to economic in the galaxy map settings to reduce the number of jumps. Really, you should be making around 5 million every hour at this stage if you copy what I show.

The system i'm in doesn't have any ringed planets and i'm struggling to find any nearby. Being in a Sidewinder and being restricted to 7.5 LY jumps i can't figure out how to find any systems similar to where you are. So at the moment i can't get further than doing small data courier runs. At 12k a pop i reckon it'll take me about 100 years to achieve the money you're making knocking out pirates. How can i find a Ring system with a high rescource extraction site??

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 8 місяців тому

      Tell me where you started, and are you playing Odyssey or Horizons 4.0? If you started in Odyssey, there is a high resource site in the starter system about 2200ls from where you start. Data deliveries is a very slow way to start. It's for losers. Avoid getting a Cobra as your next ship because it will also slow you down. A Type 6 costs the same and carries nearly three times as much, and for combat, it safer to stay in a Sidewinder until youu can get a Vulture. Never buy a new ship until you have the money to fit it out for the job required.

Have done the tutorials and have been mainly trying to get used to the UI, i'm using an xbox controller (i have nerve damage in both hands and have problems with movement and feeling in the ring fingers and little fingers on both hands, controller seems to work ok, whereas i think i'd struggle with just keyboard and mouse - i'm also not as young as i was when i first played years ago so my reactions are slower aswell se la vie). Have about 40 hours behind me, most of which has been spent crawling arround just getting used to and learning about the controls and interface. Have done a few courier missions and have about 350K so far. Found a website via another YT tutorial that helps find ring worlds and resource sites - so now i'm at WYRD. Where there is a Low res site, now i know just how easy you make it look picking off pirates being chased by the Police; believe me i tried but in 30 minutes i hadn't bagged one!! By the time i was lning up on a likely ship it'd be blown up before my eyes ! 🙂 I'm going to have to practice combat / flying quite a bit more if i want to own anything bigger than this flying shoe LoL.

    Im not english so i don’t understood everything, what i would know is if i kill someone, the death is counted for each missions or only for one? Thanks

    • @hughjardon3538
      @hughjardon3538 9 місяців тому

      Each kill counts for each faction that you have an open mission for. There are 5 factions that give missions, so if you have one mission from each faction, your first kill will count 5 times. When you have killed enough to complete the lowest mission, each kill will count 4 times until the next lowest is complete, then three times, then two, then one until all are complete. The plan is to collect missions such that you have to kill approximately the same number of pirates from each faction so that each kill counts for all factions - five times each, though you can't always get it like that.

If your galaxy map doesn't show the resue ships I'd say that they're not available in your version of the game (Legacy). Can you get the MODIFIED shard cannons from Mbooni? I think the weapons stabiliser came at the same time.

      @charlielabird 10 місяців тому

      @@hughjardon3538 Hi Hugh, the Experimental Weapons Stabiliser is not available to PS4 players and the galaxy map doesn't show the new features you described. We also seem to have lost some of the old features as well of the galaxy map. None of the Thargoid stuff is visible or the rescue ships. Looks like us old legacies are being left way behind. 😣 So I set up my Corvette as it's tougher and more manoeuvrable as you described but with just 4 Modified Shard Cannons from Mbooni. With 4 you have to take out an extra heart and hit them a few more times. At Kipling Orbital in Pleiades Sector KC-V C2-11 there are lots of Thargoids and being a small system everything is nearby from Nonhuman Signal Source Threat 3 to 9. Unfortunately you do have to travel forwards and backwards to the station for repairs and you also have to finish them off in one go. The easiest way to find an Interceptor is to fly straight out of Kipling Orbital, go to supercruise and when speed hits 0.2c reduce speed to minimum, then select the nearest Unidentified Signal Source from the navigation pane, turn around and point at it and then run down the list. There's usually a Nonhuman Signal Source Threat 5 or 6 nearby and this is the easiest way to find the nearest. If you run out of signals use the Full Spectrum System Scanner (FSS) and tune the Filtered Signal Analysis bar to Nonhuman Signal Sources (second signal source group from the left). Nonhuman Signal Source Threats 3/4 are just Scouts. Nonhuman Signal Source Threat 5 are either: Ship wreckage from a battle with a Cyclops which has gone. Lots of Scouts who will proceed to trash your hull if you don't have shields! A Thargoid Sensor (which yields sensor fragment Materials if you destroy it). or A single Cyclops snoozing in the wreckage of several ships. To destroy a Cyclops (total of 4 Hearts): Reduce your speed to 0% and let it come to you. Set pips to 204 and target the Cyclops. Fire a Heatsink, two shots and the Heart appears, then shoot and destroy the Heart. Its shields then come up, fire another Heatsink and 5 shots to knock them down. Repeat this process to take out 3 hearts and then finish it off. Full reverse is then required to avoid the contamination cloud. You should finish with about 90% hull and can then return to Kipling Orbital for repairs. Threat 6 is a Basilisk (or a Cyclops with Scouts). A Basilisk is much tougher and you may loose more than 50% of your Hull! You will need twice as many shots as you needed to destroy a Cyclops. Tips: If you don't destroy the Heart quickly the interceptor will go into beserk charging about mode and you may have to chase it. Night Vision can help with targeting. Use High Grade Emissions trick to flip threat location occupants. Scan interceptors for Encoded Materials. Threat 7 is a Medusa (or Basilisk with Scouts). Threat 8 is a Hydra (or Medusa with Scouts). Threat 9 is an aggressive Hydra with Scouts! All the Interceptors without Scouts are passive unless fired upon and are all quite beautiful. It's a shame we can't communicate with them and make peace. Sorry for long comment, but you did say "share the knowledge". 😀 Thank you for your interesting and informative content and your helpful response 👍

      I'm not a fan of the Viper. It's not nearly as easy to control as the DBS and the weapons layout is a bit inconvenient too. It needs engineering to get the best from it. R2R is another way to get the money for the Vulture, especially as it's a fair distance to Ngalinn. I chose combat as the method because I thought the practicewould help before they start with the Vulture. A lot of guides send new players to do biology scanning in odyssey, and claim huge amounts of money, but I'm pretty sure that those are mainly lucky runs and people that didn't count the time it took them to travel into deep space. I think massacre missions is a lot more reliable and predictable, so I stick to that method. It was encouraging to see quite a lot of noobs in the starter systems. The non-wing ones only pay half as much if you're harmless compared with what you get when you're elite. Your 1 million tells me you're doing something wrong. I have started many new accounts, and when I go to Ngalinn as a harmless guy in a Sidewinder, there are always missions for more than that, and I get around 30 million from missions to kill a total of around 60 pirates.
