How Black Ops 6 Finally Embraced its Community
Thanks for Watching!
I STREAM HERE: twitch.tv/ZackLillipad
I’ve been playing a lot of Black Ops 6 since its release a few weeks ago. And while the game is certainly far from perfect, I’m really enjoying my time with it. It seems I’m not alone in that as reception to the game has been far more positive than the last few Call of Duty games to come before it. Not only are the hardcore fans happy but I’ve seen tons of people say they have come back to Call of Duty for the first time in several years. In many ways Black Ops 6 feels like a return to form for Call of Duty, both in terms of game quality but also how it’s being viewed by the audience. As I've thought about it further, I think what stands out the most to me about Black Ops 6 is the way that Treyarch has embraced the community, something Call of Duty has not done for many years.

The Revisionist History of Nintendo Gamecube

Thanks for Watching! I STREAM HERE: twitch.tv/ZackLillipad I can’t think of many other consoles that get more consistent praise than the Nintendo Gamecube. With its elite controller and fantastic line-up of games, there is certainly a lot to love. If you were to judge the console based purely on its internet reputation, you would come to the quick conclusion that the Gamecube must have been a m...
The Terrifying Return of Shovelware

Thanks for Watching! I STREAM HERE: twitch.tv/ZackLillipad When looking at the physical games market for the current generation of consoles, the amount of shovelware is actually pretty low. Of course, some oddities find their way onto the shelves, but for the most part, things are pretty good in that respect. Unfortunately a brand new kind of shovelware is infesting these platforms, specificall...
The Strange Reality of Horizon

Thanks for Watching! I STREAM HERE: twitch.tv/ZackLillipad PlayStation’s Horizon franchise has proven to be quite a controversial one, at least online. The worst part about Nintendo eShop NSFW games is that they're not even the good ones from devs like AliceSoft or YuzuSoft. There are eroge that actually have love and care put into them like Dohna Dohna, so seeing that shovelware garbage is just insulting.

There's a shocking amount of scam games on the Playstation store that try their best to look like famous indie games that don't have a port yet, and judging by their review ratings on the store, they've succeeded quite a few times. Stuff like Raft, Lethal Company, etc. all have one. They use really similar names and art to fool kids, only for those kids to find out that PS customer support won't allow refunds for any game you've downloaded. The shovelware as well is bad, but these scams piss me off so much.

there is only one of these simulator games i've played and actually enjoyed and that is supermarket together. sure it doesnt look the best but you can see that the dev team is trying to make the best of it and for free at that, the only thing you can but is their DLC to support the team but that's completly optional. the game looks way more fun than the original supermarket simulator too so thats a win win

"Shovelware" doesn't just mean "bad game." It specifically means games that are ment to be bundled together with a console. The problem with games these days is that everyone is copying the App/Play store model which let's almost anyone upload their games even if they're total frauds.

You've made a lot of good points about the longevity of the Gamecube's popularity. I believe one of the biggest factors of this is that the audience that usually goes for the more realistic and visually impressive games will usually just go onto the next console for what they want. I may be incorrect, but my impression of people who play racing, sports and military FPS games (which all look their best on the PS2 rather than gamecube) will more typically move on to the bigger better games. If I want to have the best time playing Call of Duty, I'll probably pick the latest one. However, Nintendo games have a quality that makes them very easy to revisit. Simpler visuals don't feel as aged as more realistic ones do as time goes on. Pikmin could probably be released today and I don't think anyone would call it ugly. Metroid Prime still looks really good, and needed minimal input to make the remaster as good looking as it did. The Wind Waker remake felt kind of pointless to me as it still looks really good. There's also the fact that a lot of these Nintendo games are worth visiting because they still are pretty big today. If you like Zelda, you're probably going to pick up Wind Waker, which as I mentioned, has not really aged that much. In each series there's a continuity of games that do something different enough that they don't out-date the others. Despite people's frustration that there hasn't been a new F-Zero game, it's probably part of their approach to making sequels that they never want to make a game look or feel like 'the old one'. This is not to dunk on games that have tried to push the limits to present realism, as a lot of those games are still really fun regardless of the age, but Nintendo series Also this is the last of my multi-paragraph comments. I guess I just really like the gamecube.

The reason Nintendo got stuck with the 'for kids' reputation is because Nintendo has always been that in comparison to whatever they're competing with. The Sega Genesis was marketed as more 'mature' than the NES, Sonic was supposed to be a little edgier than the Mickey Mouse adjacent Mario Bros. When I think of the PS1, I think Metal Gear Solid, FF7, Castlevania. When I think N64 or Gamecube, i think Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and a lot of great games that can totally be played by kids without a single thing to worry about for parents at the time. Although there are plenty of games on the Gamecube rated T or M, and even first party ones like Metroid and eventually Twilight Princess that have a not-so-cartoony tone, it's still the Mario console. You've got Sunshine, Mario Sports games, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros, probably one of the least attached to reality fighting games. Also, this is when Pokemon was getting to be absolutely inescapable, and it probably spoke pretty loudly that the property that seemed to tower above all others happened to be for kids, and happened to be a Nintendo property. Nintendo will probably always be the one you get for your kids. None of this is to say that any of these games aren't good for an older audience, but it may be inescapable unless they decided to abandon appealing to younger children (which would be the dumbest thing they could possibly do).

  • @ThumpingThromnambular
    @ThumpingThromnambular 18 годин тому

I disagree that Nintendo's focus on power began with the Gamecube. Unless you count the NES (being one of the biggest gamechangers in video game history), it's been a pretty standard climb with not many gimmicks. Unless you're counting the N64's weird controller (which I have to love because it was my first game controller), I think Nintendo really only started gimmicks with the DS and the Wii. I was originally very scared of the Nintendo Switch, but I love it now. I do wish it was more powerful though. I shouldn't have to turn to emulating a console to get 60 FPS on a mario game.

Generative AI only incentivizes people to be lazy and greedy AF. Trying to use it as "tool" for artistic matters only hinders the process as you can already get far better references from literally any other source and doing "paint-overs" takes way too much time and effort that often falls flat from your main idea. Ergojosh is a prime example of these two aspects with his crazy red haired chick pic that took over 100+ hours to make! Further proving this generative tech ain't worth your time as an artist.

Shovelware thrives off of platforms that cater to young kids. Take roblox for example, primarily inhabited by massive amounts of VERY young kids. Roblox consists ALMOST ENTIRELY of thousands of mass produced cashcrab shovelware garbage. Unfortunate that AI is causing such garbage to spread from roblox and the mobile market onto other platforms.

Problem is this will not change because its not the miniscule amount of money they make from shovelware games that matter. Its the slightly more costly process of moderating their marketplace that’s the issue. Thats the same reason Amazon and Ebay is full of chinese knockoffs, junk or scams and only act when people have already gotten ripped off. They take the “fix it after it gets brought up” approach as opposed to “prevent it from happening at all” Sounds cliche but its why i hate capitalism so much, before it was a contest of “best product makes the most sales” now its a matter of managing to sell the most mediocre product and cutting the costs of it along the way to maximize profits thats the model.
