There was a time during the 7th generation of consoles that Ubsioft was on top of the world. With giant franchises like Assasin’s Creed and Far Cry dominating the sales charts, there was a long stretch there where it seemed like Ubisoft couldn’t miss. But in more recent years, Ubisoft as a company seems to have nose-dived. Their games are not being received nearly as well, with consumers growing tired of their standardized formula. And what’s even more concerning is that Ubisoft’s games are now starting to struggle in the sales department also. Ubisoft recently dropped a slew of negative press announcements including the declining player base of their floundering live-service game XDefiant, the softer than expected sales for the recently released Star Wars Outlaws, and the delay of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows. With Ubisoft’s stock plummeting to a decade-low, there is a genuine worry for the future of the company. In today’s video we are going to talk about what exactly is happening with Ubisoft, and how we got here.
Ubisoft owned by Tencent? Cool, that means I can continue to ignore them both.
I feel Xbox should buy Ubsisoft. I feel it has become the perfect home where game franchises go when they die & no longer popular. lol
Rip ABK & bethesda lol.
Yeah the formula worked years ago, but you just can’t keep stagnate. They gotta build up the formula to be better and better but they just keep making the same slop. Another great vid man
I want to see xbox buy ubisoft. Maybe then we could a cross over between Assassin's Creed & Age of Empires.
I dunno, I didn’t care for Breath of the Wild nor Elden Ring yet I was tired of the formula when AC Unity launched. I do still think the formula can work, but AC Valhalla and other Ubisoft titles just felt soulless. I think The Witcher 3 and RDR 2 showed how an open world could be done differently
Ya, I'm not a fan of Zelda's open world either. I like a sense of direction, but what I don't like is the gameplay loop, the gearing, & the ivls in AC: valhalla.
I liked Valhalla & the vibe, but the gameplay loop felt horrible.
I don't have a problem with the ubisoft formula, but I also never any of the other entrees.
in fact it's the gameplay itself.
Gearing is stupid & doesn't really explain how to upgrade or obtaining certain materials needed to do so
Ilvls felt like unncessary difficulties & hurdles
The raids felt fun at first, but the rewards felt lacking
The progression in the game suddenly became steep where I couldn't progress due to ilvl and couldn't find a way to obtain a higher ilvl
I ws playing on the easiest mode and some of the open world bosses that you track down to kill seem unreasonabily fair fighting against with their attack combos.
Between Shadows having brought dishonor to the creed, pulling the plug on the crew, Skull and Bones sinking, Star Wars Outlaws bombing and Beyond Good and Evil 2 setting a world record for the longest production cycle for a single Tripple A game. It's no wonder Ubisoft is going down in flames.
Prince of Persia the Lost Crown was an excellent game.
Duuude! Cave Story music! Heck yeah man!!
They ruined a number of games by small teams, such as Trackmania and Trials. If this decline in the industry will lead to studios bought out by even more giant companies, then over time those companies will collapse and that will leave a much bigger crash in the industry than what we originally anticipated!
They won't learn, still blaming gamers for their downfall
thoughts on Mario+Rabbids 1 and 2 and the new Prince of Persia game?
edit: nvm sorry i didn't see the very end of the video lol
They chased an audience that doesn't exist apart from their middle class trust fund ultra liberal echo chamber whilst insulting their existing customers in the process.
All the while arrogantly believing they are the victims, instead of an entertainment company.
The real ones haven't wasted money on a Ubisoft game in 10 years
I haven't played a ubisoft game since Driver: Parrellel Lines. I never played an assasin's Creed, Watch dogs, or any other title.
I picked up AC: Valhalla for $30 on sale years ago... I had fun, but after the progression slowed down on the viking camp, the ilvls, & gearing process became stagnant... I ended up quitting. I'm not sure if I just suck, but despite the game having a thousand markers... it doesn't tell you how to get certain materials to upgrade you gear.
I got stuck around 120 ilvl... raided everything I could, hunted down some targets, & yet all the raids were like 150 or higher and became undoable. I gave up progressing on the story because of the night time mechanic for the quest undernearth a bridge or whatever was pissing me off. Even if I used the bed to pass time faster... by time I would get there it be day time again.
Really happy to see a video on Ubisoft that actually looks at the management and company culture and doesn't just repeat the same "they fail because they're too woke" talking points. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for appreciating that! I hope everyone knows they can always expect that from this channel. I am here to talk about my love for video games, not to spread hate

Hey! Not all of Ubisoft's games are bad, you know. Have you ever played the Anno series?
The 1 & only Ubisoft game I preordered was Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (Gold Edition). Cuz it's a Mario RPG for the love of god
You know things are bad when even Nintendo knows how to inovate gameplay and mechanics
Its a beautiful thing
Basically every open world game after Breath of the Wild took a little inspiration from that game, why wouldn't you do that, even though Breath of the Wild wasn't perfect the formula was still 1000 times better than every open world game formula we 've ever seen. but Ubisoft didn't do that and paid the price for it
I disliked the breath of the wild formula. I wanted to like it, but it's not for me.
I like having a sense of direction of where to go.
I also like knowing what my next task is
It wasn't a good experience for a first time Zelda player. I played Breath of the wild & links Awakening for about 2hrs each.
I couldn't figure out what to do unless I googled something constantly... which is huge no for me.
Same thing with Link's Awakening... I got stuck in the forest and kept being teleported backwards.... shit like that made me rage quit.
I want to pick up a game and play... not spend my time googling or youtube guide my way through it.
I seriously hope Nintendo buys Rayman and Rabbids.
I hope so too.
that would be a dream come true
Even I'd sooner trust Nintendo with handling Rayman at least than Ubisoft to do anything less than halfway decent with him.
imagine Nintendo acquires the Rayman IP and hands it over to Next Level Games to make the games (Luig's Mansion devs)
Why Ubisoft is dying
1- no more Rayman (Rayman 4)
2-ubisoft at now not making a good or new game just remakE
3:48 I wish they felt like 10 years ago, if Far Cry 6 was like 2, 3 or 4 it would at least be good, but it's just worse in almost every aspect. More bloated and generic
*I believe Ubisoft is completely done in the console world and they will turn their focus to mobile gaming 👍 that is the best move for them because clearly they've forgotten how to innovate and make great console games.*
I just don't want Tencent buying Ubisoft. I'm pulling for them just for that reason. Best case scenario, AC Shadows is a hit and they stay independent.
That's not going to happen 🤣
Yeah, that may be the case if we were still in 2015. But they've had chance after chance, and fucked it all up every single time. Now those consequences finally came back. Ubisoft WILL either die, or be bought out by the end of 2024. It's FAR too late for them to do anything else at this point.
They already have a huge stake in Ubisoft. They control so many studios and franchises. Particularly in Asia which is where most successful games are created these days.
Xbox should buy ubisoft... because that is where franchises go when they die. Seems like the perfect home before they get shut down. lol
Rip ABK & bethesda.
@@Yackass Maybe mid summer of 2025... once shadows flops hard.
Pretty fair assessment - formulaic, price points, creative decisions from devs rather than management
Did you even watch the video? Creative decisions from the devs was only touched upon Skull and Bone's development because it went through several creative directors. The entire latter third of the video is how about management making bad calls constantly that other corporations are considering to make a hostile takeover so they can provide a much needed change of management.
To think they released one of my favorite game franchises of all time, The Division.....
Man i really hope they can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get back on track. I still have hope (mainly because of the division franchise) :(
Next probably sony. They grew greedy
I feel like I saw this video yesterday and the day before but maybe this a diff take
