Travelling Australia in the Summertime - Kalgoorlie Part One - Coca Cola, Brothels, Mining Pits
#cocacola #mining #caravan
Tonight on You Tube 6.30pm AEST
This week, join us for Part One of our Kalgoorlie adventure! Tracie scores a one-on-one tour of the stunning Kalgoorlie Town Hall and shares a sneak peek inside-don’t worry, a full walkthrough is coming soon! After a delicious lunch at a local Chinese restaurant, we visit the incredible Kalgoorlie Super Pit, one of the world’s largest open-pit gold mines. Measuring 3.5 km long, 1.5 km wide, and up to 600 m deep, this mine is a testament to human engineering and a cornerstone of Kalgoorlie's rich history, producing millions of ounces of gold over its lifetime
Our journey continues with a visit to Australia’s tallest garbage bin (yes, it’s a thing!) and the bizarre story of a statue vandalism gone wrong. One vandal suffered a shocking consequence when Paddy Hannan's bronze statue head fell, crushing her toes. We also explore the Museum of the Goldfields, marveling at exhibits that include $4 million worth of gold and fascinating insights into the region's mining legacy
And here’s where it gets intriguing-we visit Questa Casa, one of Australia’s oldest running brothels. While the visit didn’t meet our expectations, we uncovered some fascinating tales of the women who worked there, including an unusual use for Coca-Cola that might surprise you!
Don’t miss this eclectic episode! Like, subscribe, and hit the bell to follow our adventures-and let us know your favorite Kalgoorlie highlight in the comments!

I live in Port Germein between Port Augusta and Port Pirie and we get mim mim lights quite often on our property
I think they would be an awesome thing to see. Thanks for watching and commenting
sorry about john's adverse reactions to heights. I always say, god made me tall so I don't have to climb ladders. Is that John's excuse as well.🤣🤣
Hhahahaha he says he is 6ft 5 lol but no..... he isnt and cant use that excuse lol. Thanks for watching
Great episode 🤣
Thank you so much
Did you see the church at New Norcia WA. There’s a lot of history there.
Unfortunately we didn't get there. Maybe next trip through. Thanks for watching 👀
Don’t quote me on this, but I think a lot of the Cathedrals in WA had a lot of Spanish priests.
That kind of rings a bell actually 👌
Hello Jon and Tracie, I loved the episode, I hope you get to see one of the mine shots going off. It's an experience. It was misleading about the working brothel. Till next week, safe travels.
Thank you Chris
Yes I've heard of the Coke thing. I remember in high school people thought it was a thing. I remember one of our friends telling me that she didn't have any coke so she had used Creaming Soda! lol. A very sticky situation I would have thought! I also remember about 10 years ago seeing a day spa advertising that they offered "Champagne Douches" as one of their treatments. lol. Oh.................and one last thing!.......................I think it was a working brothel....................I mean $70!................you got screwed in there!
Thanks for the laughs, I can't say I've heard of the "Champagne Douches" before! and definitely not Creaming Soda haha.
101 ways to use Coke Cola 😳🤣
Haha the list keeps getting bigger lol
I grew up in Kambalda, some 50km south of Kalgoorlie. When I was in year 6 or 7 we were taken to Kalgoorlie to see a stage play, the Sound of Music, at Kalgoorlie Hall, we sat upstairs.
That would have felt so grand. It was wonderful inside for sure
Once it hits over 40 degrees... it's all known as F88King hot!
Hahaha your not kidding lol
Great episode guys. We spend 4 weeks in Kalgoorlie in September. John seamed a little upset with the tour brothel but really you spent $70 and got screwed. Seems like good value. Just out the road towards Coolgardie is a memorial to 2 policeman that were murdered which has an interesting story. Travel safe guys.
You're absolutely right, that was a bit of a rip-off. 😂 and definitely screwed over lol. Thanks for watching.
You're back to where we met you.... We'll be there this Sunday :)
This is how far behind in videos we are oops. Hopefully we shall run into you on our next travels. We hope you are both well and of course the dogs 🐕 🐶
@@onlyleavingfootprints i was out in Mount magnet a month ago... I haven't even down loaded my videos on to the lap top yet hahaha
@@TreasureHuntingNana it becomes very time consuming for sure
No..not heard that. Our last visit to Kalgoorlie turned us off going again. Crazy lot there. Drivers and people, the ones we call locals. Town was dirty, lots of cars in the street but nothing in the way of buildings open. As for the Drone, won’t be taking ours on holidays again. Too many restrictions. Super Pit is awesome, would liked to have done a tour of that.
Thanks for watching, Kalgoorlie isn't for everyone that's for sure. We actually didn't mind it there although it was considered the low season at that time.
Wow what an amazing video one off the best ive ever viewed and so informative , yep Kalgoorlie has some beautiful amazing buildings and very rich in history , its amazing what went on in that town
We loved exploring Kalgoorlie and it's interesting history, thanks for watching!
Hubby & I did Aussie in 1999-2000. Did the Catherine Gorge also. We cruised to Singapore via India etc. Spent a week there (terrific) Then flew home, didn’t enjoy this in least. (I was suffering with sciatica.) We are from Ipswich Qld.
Thanks for sharing your travel experiences. The Singapore / India cruise with Celebrity Cruise line is what I would like to do. Would love to hear your experiences. If you feel up to chatting our email is onlyleavingfootprints@hotmail.com
I am in love with your videosssss!!
Very much appreciated. Thanks for watching

What a gorgeous building.
Absolutely stunning isnt it. Thanks for watching

Hey guys thanks for the vids may catch you on the road one day as for your CB / UHF question The Citizen Band Radio Service (CBRS) is a two-way, short distance, voice communications service that can be used by any person in Australia. CB radios provide a cheap and reliable means of communications. The service operates in two distinct frequency bands-the high frequency (HF) band (26.965 - 27.405 MHz) and the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band (476.4125 - 477.4125 MHz). Basically there Both CB radios take care .
Thanks for the info, much appreciated!
It's a very sweet thing to do, and lovely, you appreciate it so much in return ❤ Kindness is the best thing we can do, and you never know what it does for the person
Kindness is contagious, thanks for watching.
A beautiful act of kindness 😊 Oh John your a funny bugger 🤣🤣🤣
He makes me laugh that's for sure. Thanks for watching 👀
When you get to Kalgoorlie and you need a free camp we can recommend Lake Douglas just out of Kalgoorlie if you go for a walk there, you will find one of the old Gold mines filled with the blue'est water we have ever seen and an amazing landscape. Oh, and don't forget to have a look at the two up shed. Safe travels 😊
We are long gone from the area so maybe next time. Thanks for watching 👀
We stayed at that park in early September, we were situated up the back, those sites were squishy. Lots of people too. We did like Kalbarri so much more than Broome.
We would like to go back to Broome in the high season when its less hot however the people arghhh. Kalbarri was much nicer for sure. Thanks for watching
Great episode, thank you for your efforts to complete it. ⭐️ Gold star job. Did the 3 way fridge handle the heat? 🐸😎
Thanks so much. The fridge handled the heat ok. Our one is supposed to be "Tropical rated" so maybe that made a difference. But overall everything stayed cold enough
Loved the old churches and other stone buildings. Thanks, guys...hope the temps cool off soon for you!
We really enjoyed Greenough as well, thanks for watching 😊
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thank you so much for watching
Hey mate, which fuse did you wire the ignition source cable into? Looks like we have the same car Awesome instructions thanks
Hey there and thanks for your question. To be completely honest I quite remember but from memory it was to the heated seat fuse. Appreciate you watching
I used TO party in that house near the well 😊
Oh wow that is cool.
I live in GERALDTON ♥️♥️♥️
We really liked Geraldton and have even considered moving there. Thanks for watching
That exam back in 1870s .they need to take that old exam back then and give it to grade 10 students there in Australia and see if they can do it and know the answers
Oh, don't upset the precious souls lol. It really was hard and soon I will upload it to our Facebook page. Unfortunately, I am working long hours at the moment and just dont have the time. Thanks for watching
I'm guessing the Catholic Church was right next door to that big Police Station and Lock-up 😂
Nope but it was across the road lol. Thanks for watching
Yes, Greenough is pronounced Grenoff
Thank you for clarifying that and also watching
I really feel for you guys in all that heat, pitty that generator failed. Did you get to see the Greenough Leaning Trees they were pretty cool (sorry for the pun) 😅
No we didnt see the leaning trees. I feel like I remember reading about Leaning Trees on our travels but we never saw them. Thanks so much for watching
I love your videos. So interesting. My wife and I are so like you two. We are the same age, both love history and cemeteries and so many other things I notice about you guys. Oh, and yes, I loved "Bewitched". My sister was convinced that she could do the nose wiggle thing and every time I pointed out it was her mouth moving she would run crying to Mum. lol......Childhood, childhood!................Oh, and Tracy yes! I would have locked my wife in the jail cell too! lol
Haha, that's a great story about your sister and "Bewitched". I think we all had our little quirks as kids 😂 You men lol, I know Jon to well hey. Thanks so much for watching. We may meet on the road someday
@onlyleavingfootprints that would be nice. Safe travels.
Wow all the buildings just left open for the travellers to view and marvel at the quality & effort the pioneers put into everything & how they lived! If it was in Melbourne everything would be stolen graffitied squatted ,burnt down & an African gang HQ !
Same in Sydney and Brisbane, no respect for our history or really anyone's property. Its a sad world we live in isnt it. Thanks so much for watching
Finally you emptied the toilet. I've been waiting for this. hahahaha Great video.
Cuz, cuz, cuz.... why do you get so much enjoyment out of me cringing lol. Thanks for watching lovely xoxoxo
There some awesome looking sleaves where did you get them???¿ 😂
We were fascinated by the one up one down!
Not sure where there can be purchased but we are lucky our awesome son in law looks after us and was worried about Jon's arm getting burnt while driving, so he gave Jon a pair. Thanks for watching
Hahahaha they are slip on sleeves. Jon usually only wears one on his right arm because when he is driving it was getting burnt. Thanks for watching
As an indigenous woman I find it heart breaking to think what early contact was like. I don’t know how you’s managed to cope in that heat. I cease to function above 35 degree 🥵🥵🥵
How did they not get sunburnt!
Honestly most of the places like this we have been to absolutely breaks my heart, I cannot even imagine what it would have been like for the indigenous people. With the heat I feel like our brains were fried lol. Thanks so much for watching
ALOT of sunscreen and reapplying of sunscreen. Thanks so much for watching
It sounds pathetic in this day and age but I own every episode of bewitched on VHS and DVD and refuse to give them up! Darren was accused of stealing a bed warmer lol.
We love this, just awesome. Thanks for watching 👀
The spiked edges on the convict bridge is used to stop cattle going over the edge. Well I do remember that from when we travelled Tassy.
Oh dear! it hasn't improved. Please don't keep filming yourselves, film your surroundings, not yourselves, and if the sound is so bad as it was when John was videoing, please edit it and do voice-over so we can understand what is being said.
Thanks for watching. In most videos we try to show what it's like for us as well as the beautiful scenery, however this particular video was not about scenery, we were talking to our viewers about what was happening with life. Your suggestions about voice-overs has been noted and I will try to figure out how to do this.
It would be better if you videoed where you were walking instead of constantly having the camera focused on yourselves. But apart from that, it wasn't too bad. I'm sure you will improve as time goes on. You might think of doing some voice-over instead of reading live.
Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts!
Hi, watching YT to prepare our next trip and wow… what a small world… 11:43 this is us 🎉😊 or much more our rental RV. We were there between Nov 21st and 23rd. Was a great time and Broome is an amazing place! But unfortunately we haven‘t met. Maybe next time in October 2026 😊. Happy day, safe trip and sorry for taken your site 😉, Karen and Andy from Germany
Oh wow! It is a small world, would have been lovely to have met you. Glad you enjoyed Broome, but boy it was so hot then. Happy travels
How many BTU is your A/C?
Have absolutely no idea. It is a soft start air con.
What? With jackets, hats and sandals on when swimming!!! Never seen the like! Why?
The word is being Sunsmart with a hat and a sunshirt on, its not a jacket. And thongs on in the waterhole for better grip with the amount of slime. Thanks for watching 👀
Thank you for your great work and sharing with us guys. ❤ Jon, we loved Gilligan’s Island, F-Troop, McHale’s Navy, Dad’s Army, Get Smart etc. 😂 Don’t make’em like they used to 😢
Haha those were great shows! All of them. Bets stupid Home and Away and all these blinking love island type reality shows these days
I was born in 1966 so yes, I too was a Gilligan's Island fan. Have a safe trip.
Thank you. The best show ever
John the question should be who did not watch Gilligan Island when they were a child and if you didn't watch it there was something wrong with you😂
You have hit the nail on the head there lol
