Sandblasting isn't a new technique, but in this video, I'm demonstrating a solution to making less expensive glass art items that can still be beautiful. Does the kiln wash manufacturer recommend 6 coats or do you do additional coats because of how the mold will be used.

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt 8 днів тому

      I add 6 to give it some more rigidness and by sanding in between each coat helps get a smoother finish. Each coat is thin so you need a few coats to start filling in marks. While I haven't gone any further I would think more coats will result in a better finish. And these last. Because you will only be at slump temps. The ones I did years ago have had multiple uses and I've never recoated. And if you do have a problem easy fixed.

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt 10 днів тому

      With art glass I often sandblast and do just a fire polish to get a nice polish. I suppose with float you can do the same thing if you have more experience than me. I've tried a few times but the temp is a bit hit and miss. I suppose it's the variation in COE but sometimes it's worked for me and some not.

I like the details you offer when describing your proposed drape. I wanted to see something more dramatic with such an exciting looking fused piece and wondered it perhaps it was draped over a more higher narrow cylinder object would it made a unique art piece. Or perhaps watch the edges flatten a bit more on the sides. Thank you always enjoy your videos. It is clear information. I love the kiln knowledge you share as well.

    Jeff. Does the glass need to ground after cut on the saw? Or do you find the edges smooth out nicely in the fuse ?❤

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt 12 днів тому

      I don't always grind cut edges. You can fuse without doing so. The most important thing to do is to keep the cut pieces wet. Don't let the edges dry. If they do the fine ground glass from the cut can be harder to remove. Scrub the cut edges to ensure there is no fine ground glass left behind. If there is it will certainly be noticeable after firing.

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt 12 днів тому

      Hi Mary. Mine is a Beetle Bits system. I can't really compare it for you, but I find it okay. When cutting wider sheets of glass I find the guide isn't long enough and that's a pain. The measurements on the aluminium ruler are wearing off so eventually it will need to be replaced. The sliding cutter that fits onto the guide I feel could be smoother and a bit firmer fit so it doesn't move sideways as much. But generally, it does the job. Hope that helps.
