Saved or Self-Deceived,
Matthew 7:21-27
Oct 28, 2007
I want you to begin tonight as we return to the Word of God by following as I read Matthew chapter 7, verses 21 to 27. Matthew chapter 7 verses 21 to 27. Here are the words of our Lord Jesus Himself. And they are stunning words, shocking words, and tragic words.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy or preach in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act upon them, will be alike a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and burst against that house; and it fell - and great was its fall.”
Perhaps this is the most tragic text in all the Bible. The reality is there will be people one day who stand before the Lord, many of them who will assume that they are about to enter heaven only to be told they’re on their way to hell. This is the worst possible illusion that someone can have: to be mistaken about your eternal destiny, to be mistaken about your salvation.
I’m often asked the question, “Are Roman Catholics Christians?” And I would pose this question: “Are Protestants naturally or always Christians?” How about another question: “Are evangelicals necessarily Christians?” But a more important question than any of those is, “Are you a Christian?” Could be that you’re among the many who are self-deceived. You’re not alone.
I am convinced that in the name of Christianity there are many places that call themselves churches, and they’re not churches; and they have men leading them who call themselves pastors, and they’re not pastors; and they have congregations who call themselves Christians, and they are not Christians. They’re not churches, they’re not pastors, and they’re not Christians, and yet they proudly post the label “Christian.”
Now we learned in our message last time, from verses 13 and 14, that there are only two possible options. There is a narrow gate that goes to heaven, and there is a broad road that says heaven but goes to hell. The narrow gate is hard to find and hard to go through, because it demands denial of self, denial of self-righteousness, recognition of sin, full repentance, submission to Christ, commitment to obey Him and follow Him no matter what the cost.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen This is the Faith This is professed at every Catholic Mass every day around the world Stop the misinformation its called lying and is sinful.
Amen!Amen 🙏!
Catholic Faith Because the Old and New Testament Scriptures are the divinely-revealed, written Word of God, Catholics venerate the Scriptures as they venerate the Lord’s body. But Catholics do not believe that God has given us His divine Revelation in Christ exclusively through Scripture. Catholics also believe that God’s Revelation comes to us through the Apostolic Tradition and teaching authority of the Church. What Church? Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus’ flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6). By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible) at the end of the fourth century. We therefore believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church. After all, nothing in Scripture tells us what Scriptures are inspired, what books belong in the Bible, or that Scripture is the final authority on questions concerning the Christian faith. Instead, the Bible says that the Church, not the Scriptures, is the pinnacle and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15) and the final arbiter on questions of the Christian faith (Matt. 18:17). It is through the teaching authority and Apostolic Tradition (2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6; 1 Cor. 11:2) of this Church, who is guided by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16,26; 16:13), that we know of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures, and the manifold wisdom of God. (cf. Ephesians 3:10). God bless you all We're praying for you every hour of every day around the world. Come to Mass with us See the beauty and the scriptures come alive True worship.
What are you talking about? What you say is a jumble. I don’t get what you mean?
I’ve heard many conversations considering whether Catholics are Christian’s. Mark 1:15 is clear that to be saved we must believe the gospel of Jesus. Believing Mary was sinless and therefore equal with Jesus is blasphemy and completely contrary to the gospel. Claiming she’s our intercessor when the gospel says Jesus is is also blasphemy. Praying to her is contrary to the gospel and by definition idolatry. I could give many other examples but I think the answer to the question is very clear Catholics are not Christian’s and are not saved. I’ve tried witnessing to so many of them but they simply won’t hear Gods truth. It’s not going to end well for them
How is believing that The Virgin Mary is sinless a heresy? Please tell us poor Papists

Roman p religion does not teach “partaking communion in memory” though. This is a Christian doctrine. Roman religion teaches “eating Jesus physically”. This is unbiblical. Jesus did not say that. 😊
Not eating Jesus physically. We partake in the sacrificial meal where we consume the resurrected body of Christ. Jesus is not diminished but e are enriched.
@ Sounds likens. Eating resurrected body 😆 and it’s not physical.
@ Even morens. Eating Jesus “enriches” you. 😆 Is Jesus some vitamins? 😆
@@bridgefin Where in the Bible says there is such thing as a “sacrificial meal”? You invented that? 😆
@@bridgefin Please tell me you are not in a cult. 😆
Bible does not teach Roman pagan Mass (sacrificing Jesus on a Roman altar back to God) though. RCs are just practising mm practices of Rome. Nothing biblical about it. 😊
many non-Catholics do not understand the Mass. Television evangelist Jimmy Swaggart once wrote, “The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the Holy Mass is an expiatory sacrifice, in which the Son of God is actually sacrificed anew on the cross” (Swaggart, Catholicism and Christianity). The late Loraine Boettner, the dean of anti-Catholic Fundamentalists, said the Mass is a “jumble of medieval superstition.” Vatican II puts the Catholic position succinctly: “At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of his Body and Blood. He did this in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the centuries until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 47). Even a modestly informed Catholic can set an inquirer right and direct him to biblical accounts of Jesus’ final night with his disciples. Turning to the text, we read, “And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me’” (Luke 22:19). The Greek here and in the parallel Gospel passages (Matt. 26:26; Mark 14:22) reads: Touto estin to soma mou. Paul’s version differs slightly: Touto mou estin to soma (1 Cor. 11:24). They all translate as “This is my body.” The verb estin is the equivalent of the English “is” and can mean “is really” or “is figuratively.” The usual meaning of estin is the former (check any Greek grammar book), just as, in English, the verb “is” usually is taken literally. Some Fundamentalists say the word “is” is used because Aramaic, the language Christ spoke, had no word for “represents.” But as Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman showed a century ago, Aramaic has about three dozen words that can mean “represents.” Fundamentalists insist that when Christ says, “This is my body,” he is speaking figuratively. But this interpretation is precluded by Paul’s discussion of the Eucharist in 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 and by the whole tenor of John 6, the chapter where the Eucharist is promised. The Greek word for “body” in John 6:54 is sarx, which means physical flesh, and the word for “eats” (trogon) translates as “gnawing” or “chewing.” This is certainly not the language of metaphor. The Catholic position The Church teaches that the Mass is the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Calvary. It does not teach that the Mass is a re-crucifixion of Christ, who does not suffer and die again in the Mass. Yet, it is more than just a memorial service. John A. O’Brien, writing in The Faith of Millions, said, “On the cross Christ really shed his blood and was really slain; in the Mass, however, there is no real shedding of blood, no real death; but the separate consecration of the bread and of the wine symbolizes the separation of the body and blood of Christ and thus symbolizes his death upon the cross. The Mass is the renewal and perpetuation of the sacrifice of the cross in the sense that it offers [Jesus] anew to God . . . and thus commemorates the sacrifice of the cross, reenacts it symbolically and mystically, and applies the fruits of Christ’s death upon the cross to individual human souls. All the efficacy of the Mass is derived, therefore, from the sacrifice of Calvary” (306). “
@bridgefin You have been proven to be aL. 1. Even if I say I have listed all RC doctrines, you would claim there are more. So there would never be “all”. Thus you would claim it’s never proven. So your requirement is aL to begin with. 2. Not from Scriptures is already non truth. Bible says God’s Word is truth. 3. 95% of RC doctrines did not come from Scriptures. Thus proven wrong. I will need you to prove my listed doctrines are found in Scriptures. You can’t. Thus it’s non truth.(proven and remain irrefutable). 😆

The Catholic Church is the church founded by Christ : In the first three hundred years of the Church, in addition to belief in the Trinity and the incarnation, the extant documents reveal widespread belief in: The Real presence of Christ (Body and Blood) in the Eucharist. The Eucharist as the Sacrifice of the New Covenant Baptismal regeneration Apostolic succession The necessity to maintain the Unity of the Church Necessity of Bishops for a valid eucharist Prayers of the Dead Relics The formal designation of Catholic for the One Church Demonstrations of papal primacy Sign of the cross at prayers Examples of prayers to the saints Whatever this church was, it wasn’t Protestant. There is no way to deep dive into the history of the church and come away with it as having any ressemblance of Protestant faith and practice. Catholicism, on the other hand, can walk backward through history and arrive at the beginning of the Church.
Well said 🎉
You have to start with an excuse??😢
Many Protestant s have left their sect to come over to Catholicism , the Mass that we have is one of the primary reasons. We pray for you Protestants.

I will not watch this video, because it is garbage. Sola Scriptura is a lie! It appears NOWHERE in the Bible or in Sacred Tradition!
You are smart. It's a tradition of wicked men The Bible warns of these wolves in sheep clothing.

So where is your proof that it was so?* *Contrary to all the propaganda RCs are spreading now. Christian Churches actually share the same 90% Core Doctrines. Not much different.*
Hey there. How about this. Baptism saves.
For example, for non-Lutherans, a good test would be: Could Martin Luther pastor your church, given his beliefs in things like baptismal regeneration, infant baptism, high predestination, and the Real Presence? The problem is much more general than Luther, however. Pastors from one Protestant tradition typically are not allowed to serve as pastors in Protestant churches of other traditions. A Lutheran’s belief in baptismal regeneration will prevent him from pastoring a Calvinist church, a Calvinist’s belief in high predestination will prevent him from pastoring a Methodist church, a Methodist’s belief in infant baptism will prevent him from pastoring a Baptist church, and so on.

To RCs who do not read the Bible, everyone else is a heretic. 😅
Herews 7:24-28 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 26 Such a high priest truly meets our need-one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
Gen. 14:18 - this is the first time that the word “priest” is used in Old Testament. Melchizedek is both a priest and a king and he offers a bread and wine sacrifice to God. Psalm 76:2 - Melchizedek is the king of Salem. Salem is the future Jeru-salem where Jesus, the eternal priest and king, established his new Kingdom and the Eucharistic sacrifice which He offered under the appearance of bread and wine.
47:47 "The priesthood replaced preaching and an altar replaced the pulpit." So he's just lying?
Altar calls with no altar Wierd
People don't sing or pray at Mass? 🤔
40:22. He says "You have to pay for the Mass." This is false. 1) It's not required. 2) It's not paying for the graces of the Mass. The money is offered freely for the support of the priest and for expenses incurred (eg, wine isn't cheap). 40:48 "There's a nuptial Mass for a wedding. That'll cost you more." Again, the Mass is not being priced. People are typically offering more for the time of the priest as he has to change up his schedule to fit in a wedding.
32:48 "wine in the box" 33:03 "checking my facts" 😅 The Eucharist is in the tabernacle under the form of the bread only. So much for facts. 😅
30:40 He claims Masses are offered to saints. This isn't true. He correctly read the canon as "in honor of" and then completely changed the meaning.
17:34 "You wonder why you always see a crucifix and not an empty cross?" This man has clearly not read Paul carefully. Who did Paul preach, Mr. MacCarthur?
Christ crucified!
Listening to a Calvinist's opinions on who will and won't be saved for an hour and eighteen minutes is the height of boredom.
Hucus pocus they believe and how a priest that is a sinner can do that ?? I want to know ???
You have no desire to know. That is obvious. The answer is Jesus told SINNERS to do just that. Maybe you've heard of him?
I was a Catholic for a long time until God open my life to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, praise God for opening my life to the gospel of Jesus Christ
Jesus purifying his church.
The Holy Mass was instituted by Jesus himself. “ Do this in memory of me”.. but satan absolutely hates it and continues to try and pull people away using false teachers.
You fool, MacArthur! Daily Masses is a Thanksgiving to God, a Eucharistic Communion where we let Him work on us, not a repeat of some bloody pagan sacrifice. Afterall, Jesus said," Do this in memory of me." Sound familiar? A Memorial of His Life, Death, and Resurrection: a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal Banquet where Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given us."
“There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” - Archbishop Fulton Sheen
The Bible does not give us permission to create traditions and dogmas that contradict God's word. *Catechism 969* says that Mary is a *Mediatrix.* There's no way that Mary can be a mediator if *1 Timothy 2:5* says that Jesus is the only mediator. False doctrine and apostate churches are a trap.
catholic catechism obviously not been read by this clown, its not a re-sacrifice ffs what a joker
John McArthur, I think it is VERY wrong of you to accuse the Catholic Church of being demonic because she believes that in the Last Supper Jesus instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the priesthood, and the Catholic Mass. Assuming that its interpretation of Jesus' words is wrong, isn't it a stretch to call such interpretation "demonic? Demonic is what separates you from Christ. The Catholic Mass does not separate you from Christ if you heart has been transformed by the Holy Spirit.
MacArthur is an infamous Calvinist anti-Catholic heretic. Satan speaks through him.
God has one Church, I remain convinced, that both, the Catholic, and Protestant religions, are confused regarding the teachings of Christ, and the Apostles doctrine. Much Hersey in both organizations, Protestant church looks much like the World, and the Catholic church is happy to join them. God has a church, his children, keep his commandments, and all while keeping themselves unspotted from the world. Religion in America is not some good and some bad. It is false vs God's church. Strait is the way, and narrow is the gate, and few there be, that find it. Beware of denominational error, and refuse to be decieved, the Catholics are no better or worse than pagan Protestant religion!
AMEN AMEN 🙏🏾
Tell us what the word satan means?
Interesting you don't talk about the many Catholics killed by protestants
Jesus said "this is my Body." He did NOT say "this is a "symbol" of my Body."
And how would you explain the Eucharistic miracles that have happened throughout the centuries where the Host was transformed into flesh and blood?
It seems to me, pastor McArthur that your hatred for the Catholic Church is much greater than your love for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen
This guy is truly the devil incarnate
Mcarthur has nothing all he does is wait around for jesus to come 😂 and rapture which never happens 😊
The sacrifice is offered all over the world for all times ( Malachi 1:11)
Yes If not then he's a false prophet
