The Power and Authority in Jesus's name are all that is needed. I did not have to listen to this but once. John MacArthur is spot on. What I read in the comments most is nothing but foolishness. We make something that is true untrue by our shallow thinking. The truth is what it is. The problem is we take that truth and we add what we have falsely read and or what's been handed to us some nonsense belief creating false doctrine. It's really simple....read your Bible and study it.
Right on, John MacArthur! It's so refreshing when you break out the word of God and hear all of it to its fullest. In our Hmong people- so many churches have been succumb to this crazy ridiculous movement of deliverance ministry, and also, so many pastors are elevated to how they can cast out demons. We really need to understand what the Bible says about this matter. Thank you for sharing this recording!
The dealings with spiritual warfare is not a joke. I've dealt with demon posession and have cast out/ rebuked such encounters but when we(pastors) get caught up with it and try to elevate ourselves to take the place of the Lordship of Christ, it is not genuine anymore.

The Gospel in a Nutshell: 1. God, infinite, eternal, triune in nature, and Holy, created everything, including man. He made it all good. He is perfect in every way. He made man for His good pleasure and to worship God. 2. God chose to make man, and withheld no good thing from man. He made man rulers over the earth, second only to Him. Man rebelled against God and in doing so fell into "Sin state" and took all creation with him, including all of future humans, which is why we see death, sin and corruption all around us. God's just sentence for man's rebellion and sin is an eternity in hell as they sinned against an eternal and Holy God. Man goes to hell for SIN, not for believing the wrong thing. The Bible says we all sin and there are none righteous. We are not able to respond to God morally and we all deserve hell for our sins (lying, coveting, hating, stealing, lusting, all the 10 commandments). 3. But God being gracious and abundant in mercy decided to inact a rescue plan, even though He didn't have to. God the Father, sent God the Son, Jesus Christ who was 100% man 100% God, to live the life we as humans should have lived but didn't. Jesus perfectly fulfilled God perfect/holy moral/standard and then died on the cross and suffered the Wrath of God we should have suffered in hell. Then 3 days later He rose bodily from the dead proving He was who He said He was, and that He conquered sin and the grave on behalf of all those who would repent and trust in His finished work on the cross. Jesus essentially paid a fine we could never pay to God. 4. So now all we have to do is respond: Repent and trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross, trusting He fully paid our debt, and when we do that, the Holy Spirit will fill us and make us new and righteous before God. We belong to Him and can trust Him no matter what happens in our lives. And we can go to Him boldly as His precious children trusting in His perfect and sacrificial love for us. I'm so glad you posted this. I came out of the Catholic church under this misconception of the rites of exorcism and the pagan foundation the church. God is rich in mercy and grace. May He reign forever.

He did found His Church, but a lot of your "traditions" the catholic community holds so passionately on to were all borrowed from practice dating back to Nimrod. I would surely hope, those that are demonically possessed can be healed as I have witnessed a loved one being possessed by a demonic spirit and it exposed itself to be after this man went to the alter to give his life to Jesus, yet went home and began mocking what he had done to his best friend, insulting and offending his friend who accused him of his mockery. The friend left and it was then that the spirit spoke to me, directly. I thought that type of experience, what I heard and seen, only happened in movies and was fake. Not anymore, it is VERY real indeed. Evil spirits are very real and can show themselves if you associate yourself around people who have or still dabble in witchcraft or make a mockery of God or serve the wrong gods. I grabbed my bible and ran, praying to God, this man would stay far from me. Unfortunately, it was my 1st husband who was a drug addict at that time, who later got off the drugs only to trade it for alcohol and he only lived to be 47 years old. I worry about his soul and our son who loved his Dad very much. My son claims he can talk to him and that worries me greatly as I know how deception can be very real when great love is involved. But loving our Father God should always trump over any love we have here on this earth and in the spirit being. Praying... Hollywood and the illuminati are GREAT example of demonic examples as artist are filled with demonic spirits and it shows through their performances and even their words. Learn and teach yourself, for all those who think I've lost my mind.... the information is out there, especially here on UA-cam.
Sorry but I find this pretty disingenuous. We do wrestle with spirits and we do need help sometimes because not everyone is spiritually strong enough to successfully fight alone. I don't trust anyone from the NAR, like Saldivar and company, but I do trust Derek Prince. Even though I seriously doubt that spirits have names like "nail biter" or "post nasal drip" (lol) there are ones that cause self harm and chronic illness. Yes, I do realize that a bad habit can just be a bad habit and allergies can just be allergies.

This is pure heresy. . He gave us all authority over satan. Mark 16-17 Luke 10-19. He said many will do mighty works in his name and he will say “ depart from me THOSE WHO WORK INIQUITY”. That does not mean that doing works in jesus name is bad. If someone does a work in jesus name it’s because the lord did it not the person. We aren’t to rejoice that we have authority over unclean spirits but that are names are written in heaven. Those who run around taking the credit for the lords work will be held accountable. And the “it was given to the disciples” it’s heresy as well we are called to be born again decouples of Jesus Christ. HEBREWS 2: 3, 4 says, "how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?" 2 CORINTIHANS 12:12 Truly, the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds. MARK 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. None of these passages indicate that the supernatural gift of casting out demons is solely for the apostles of the New Testament. Jesus said, 12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." JOHN 14:12 (NKJV). I like many of MacArthur's preachings, but this is one I cannot subscribe to.

You'll never see a fake "Apostle" perform verifiable miracles, such as clearing out a hospital or healing a blind person. Their selected "victims" are all part of the act. Charismatics think it's some kind of game, chasing a church member around who's pretending to be possessed, then the pastor "casts out" the pretend demon and they all speak in fake tongues and are "slain in the spirit" etc. Deep down you know this is all nonsense, but still perpetuate the lies. Please pray for discernment and truth, the gospel is fantastic enough without embellishing.
Prior to watching this video tonight, I hadn't listened to John MacArthur since the 90's. I quit at that time, because I saw no point in listening to any preacher with such a harsh tone, when there are many good ones who can get their point across without being so loudly strident towards their audience and critics as if they are all a bunch of dumb human mistakes. My thought is always, "Why did you become a minister, if you dislike people so much?" You can be verbally authoritative, without raising your voice. Godly preachers who emulate Jesus that way, do it all the time. Aside from that, his argument here - based on effectively adding to Scripture his own OPINION that gifts, miracles, tongues, have ceased, is ridiculous, not to mention being outright disrespectful to The Holy Spirit. This is why: the passage in scripture that says all these things (tongues, prophecy, etc) will cease "when that which is perfect has come," does NOT refer to the Bible as the object of "that which is perfect." (The Bible IS perfect, but that doesn't mean it is what Paul was talking about in that passage.) The reason it logically cannot mean the Bible is because it also says that at that same time (when that which is perfect has come), knowledge itself will cease. The Bible was canonized well over a thousand years ago. But knowledge is not even close to ceasing. Just in the last 150 years, cars and airplanes have been invented. Computers, too. Antibiotics and other medications and our understanding of the workings of the human body have essentially increased exponentially. We have put people on the moon. We have split the atom, and put it back together. We can change lead into gold (though it is not financially cost effective to do so). All of this has taken knowledge. There are countless examples proving that knowledge has not ceased, And again, since knowledge is lumped in with tongues and prophecy, etc. as only ceasing when that which is perfect has come, it only proves the point that the perfect thing about which Paul was speaking, still is yet to come. It is a huge stretch of Scripture (and imagination) to try to "make" that passage be about the Bible. On the other hand, the return of Christ, and/or the new Heavens and new Earth, are each perfect, and still yet to come, thus being good candidates for the "perfect" mentioned in that passage of Scripture. Nonetheless, Mr. MacArthur preaches his illogical opinion, and with a nice argumentative tone, for good measure. How lovely. Only God and any given person knows what is in their heart, but Jesus says we can know people by the fruit they bear, and when I watch John MacArthur speak to people like they are both annoying and dumb, all I can see is a terrible witness. The Apostle Paul stated that no matter what we gifts we have or what we know or can do, etc., if we don't have LOVE, we have our priorities screwed up. Based on his visible "fruit", I struggle to imagine John MacArthur loving sinners while hating their sins. He may genuinely do so, but I cannot start to imagine him giving a hurting, yet repentant, sinner a hug. Or encouragement. Or even just kindness. Why become a minister at all when you speak to others (each of whom was also created in God's image) of a different mind like they are annoying morons. Yet God can work wonders with anyone. Maybe someday, he will meet someone miraculously healed, or exorcised (and shows him a video of the event) and admit that he doesn't have all the answers. Other, humbler, preachers are frequently able to do this. Apparently, he is also unfamiliar with the passage where the disciples told other people - strangers to the disciples - who were casting out demons in Jesus' name to stop because they (the disciples) did not know them. What did Jesus say? He told them that if they were not against us (Jesus and His cause and followers), then they were FOR Him. Yet here we go again, with John MacArthur joining ranks with others in catering to the spirit of division, trying to make brothers and sisters in Christ sound like idiots, when at least they are trying to help people through the very same ways that a great many clearly Jesus-loving pastors have believed and taught them to do so. And there are plenty of testimonies of present-day healing miracles, etc., happening. If you don't believe God still does miracles, or healings, of course you aren't going to see any of those things, because the Bible says that without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please GOD. If God is unpleased with a person's lack of faith, why would HE reward that lack of faith by doing a miracle or healing? So, for those people, He doesn't do those things, and then they use that as "proof" that God doesn't do miraculous things anymore. And then, thinking they are spreading truth, these unbelieving, people who have displeased God with their unbelief, get on UA-cam and criticize their own brothers and sisters in Christ, who ARE able to do healings, etc, because they have faith that God still wants to heal people (at least at times; He is not a vending machine, and if He did heal everyone we wanted healed 100% of the time, we would be at risk for becoming so puffed up with pride that we would be useless for Kingdom Work. Just like Lucifer became useless for serving God once we succumbed to pride. God loves us too much to risk endangering us in that way. But the critics see that certain people aren't healed, and they jump on it and say that this person is a fraud or that one is a charlatan, etc., without ever realizing that there may be specific reasons for that, such as the possible reason I just mentioned. Dear Mr. MacArthur, if you are not going to lead in helping people, please stop being a misleading obstacle to those in need of help, and those who are earnestly doing their best to provide that help.

Wow! Using these very vague verses to justify his theology is REALLY stretching things. It sounds like he forms theology based on what is currently happening in a powerless church, rather than truly basing it on scripture. How does he get around Jesus' Great Commission: Matt 28:20 "...teaching [their converts] to observe all things that I have commanded you". And Jesus had "commanded" the disciples to (Matt 10:8) to "cast out demons". It sounds to me like John MacArthur has a "form of godliness but [he] denies its power." (2Tim 3:5)

I listened unto many of your sermons and I feel they are among the best I ever heard. I agree with everything that you say except your opinion about Mary, the mother of God. Catholics, of which I am one, do not believe that Mary is a Goddess. We believe that she is the most perfect creature that God ever created, even greater than Satan. We believe that her perfection in God’s eyes is so great that He has granted her certain powers, which she practices in His Name; in herself, she has no power. I realize that this is not explicitly stated in the Bible but Catholics believe there is Divine Revelation outside the Bible, which is done without changing the Bible. After careful study of the Catholic Church bishops, belief in Mary has become dogma.

“Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee”. These words are the basis fir Roman Catholic dogma. It is not an addition or a change in dogma, it is part of Scripture. Moreover, Our Lord Jesus Christ has made known His desire to have everyone honor the name of Mary, His mother. This was through an apparition which is not part of scripture but a Divine Revelation made by Jesus Christ to one of the children of Fatima.
What you believe, is not what I and the Roman Catholic Church fathers and all of the saints believe. Also, I caution you to be careful of what you say about the Blessed Mother- Jesus Christ is very protective of her and doesn’t tolerate blasphemies of any kind when people speak about her.

Right on, John MacArthur! It's so refreshing when you break out the word of God and hear all of it to its fullest. In our Hmong people- so many churches have been succumb to this crazy ridiculous movement of deliverance ministry, and also, so many pastors are elevated to how they can cast out demons. The dealings with spiritual warfare is not a joke. I've dealt with demon posession and have cast out/ rebuked such encounters but when we(pastors) get caught up with it and try to elevate ourselves to take the place of the Lordship of Christ, it is not genuine anymore.

The Gospel in a Nutshell:
1. God, infinite, eternal, triune in nature, and Holy, created everything, including man. He made it all good. He is perfect in every way. He made man for His good pleasure and to worship God.

God the Father, sent God the Son, Jesus Christ who was 100% man 100% God, to live the life we as humans should have lived but didn't. Jesus perfectly fulfilled God perfect/holy moral/standard and then died on the cross and suffered the Wrath of God we should have suffered in hell. Then 3 days later He rose bodily from the dead proving He was who He said He was, and that He conquered sin and the grave on behalf of all those who would repent and trust in His finished work on the cross. Jesus essentially paid a fine we could never pay to God.
4. So now all we have to do is respond: Repent and trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross, trusting He fully paid our debt, and when we do that, the Holy Spirit will fill us and make us new and righteous before God. We belong to Him and can trust Him no matter what happens in our lives. And we can go to Him boldly as His precious children trusting in His perfect and sacrificial love for us. Jesus sets us free from the power of darkness, and who the Son sets free is free indeed!

I would surely hope, those that are demonically possessed can be healed as I have witnessed a loved one being possessed by a demonic spirit and it exposed itself to be after this man went to the alter to give his life to Jesus, yet went home and began mocking what he had done to his best friend, insulting and offending his friend who accused him of his mockery. The friend left and it was then that the spirit spoke to me, directly. I thought that type of experience, what I heard and seen, only happened in movies and was fake. Not anymore, it is VERY real indeed. Evil spirits are very real and can show themselves if you associate yourself around people who have or still dabble in witchcraft or make a mockery of God or serve the wrong gods. I grabbed my bible and ran, praying to God, this man would stay far from me. Unfortunately, it was my 1st husband who was a drug addict at that time, who later got off the drugs only to trade it for alcohol and he only lived to be 47 years old. I worry about his soul and our son who loved his Dad very much. My son claims he can talk to him and that worries me greatly as I know how deception can be very real when great love is involved. Sorry but I find this pretty disingenuous. We do wrestle with spirits and we do need help sometimes because not everyone is spiritually strong enough to successfully fight alone. I don't trust anyone from the NAR, like Saldivar and company, but I do trust Derek Prince. Even though I seriously doubt that spirits have names like "nail biter" or "post nasal drip" (lol) there are ones that cause self harm and chronic illness. You'll never see a fake "Apostle" perform verifiable miracles, such as clearing out a hospital or healing a blind person. Their selected "victims" are all part of the act. Charismatics think it's some kind of game, chasing a church member around who's pretending to be possessed, then the pastor "casts out" the pretend demon and they all speak in fake tongues and are "slain in the spirit" etc. Deep down you know this is all nonsense, but still perpetuate the lies. Please pray for discernment and truth, the gospel is fantastic enough without embellishing.
Prior to watching this video tonight, I hadn't listened to John MacArthur since the 90's. I quit at that time, because I saw no point in listening to any preacher with such a harsh tone, when there are many good ones who can get their point across without being so loudly strident towards their audience and critics as if they are all a bunch of dumb human mistakes. My thought is always, "Why did you become a minister, if you dislike people so much?" You can be verbally authoritative, without raising your voice. Godly preachers who emulate Jesus that way, do it all the time.
Aside from that, his argument here - based on effectively adding to Scripture his own OPINION that gifts, miracles, tongues, have ceased, is ridiculous, not to mention being outright disrespectful to The Holy Spirit. This is why: the passage in scripture that says all these things (tongues, prophecy, etc) will cease "when that which is perfect has come," does NOT refer to the Bible as the object of "that which is perfect." (The Bible IS perfect, but that doesn't mean it is what Paul was talking about in that passage.) The reason it logically cannot mean the Bible is because it also says that at that same time (when that which is perfect has come), knowledge itself will cease. The Bible was canonized well over a thousand years ago. But knowledge is not even close to ceasing. Just in the last 150 years, cars and airplanes have been invented. Computers, too. Antibiotics and other medications and our understanding of the workings of the human body have essentially increased exponentially. We have put people on the moon. We have split the atom, and put it back together. We can change lead into gold (though it is not financially cost effective to do so). All of this has taken knowledge. There are countless examples proving that knowledge has not ceased, And again, since knowledge is lumped in with tongues and prophecy, etc. as only ceasing when that which is perfect has come, it only proves the point that the perfect thing about which Paul was speaking, still is yet to come. It is a huge stretch of Scripture (and imagination) to try to "make" that passage be about the Bible. On the other hand, the return of Christ, and/or the new Heavens and new Earth, are each perfect, and still yet to come, thus being good candidates for the "perfect" mentioned in that passage of Scripture. Nonetheless, Mr. MacArthur preaches his illogical opinion, and with a nice argumentative tone, for good measure. How lovely.
Only God and any given person knows what is in their heart, but Jesus says we can know people by the fruit they bear, and when I watch John MacArthur speak to people like they are both annoying and dumb, all I can see is a terrible witness. The Apostle Paul stated that no matter what we gifts we have or what we know or can do, etc., if we don't have LOVE, we have our priorities screwed up. Based on his visible "fruit", I struggle to imagine John MacArthur loving sinners while hating their sins. He may genuinely do so, but I cannot start to imagine him giving a hurting, yet repentant, sinner a hug. Or encouragement. Or even just kindness. Why become a minister at all when you speak to others (each of whom was also created in God's image) of a different mind like they are annoying morons. Yet God can work wonders with anyone. Maybe someday, he will meet someone miraculously healed, or exorcised (and shows him a video of the event) and admit that he doesn't have all the answers. Other, humbler, preachers are frequently able to do this.
Apparently, he is also unfamiliar with the passage where the disciples told other people - strangers to the disciples - who were casting out demons in Jesus' name to stop because they (the disciples) did not know them. What did Jesus say? He told them that if they were not against us (Jesus and His cause and followers), then they were FOR Him. Yet here we go again, with John MacArthur joining ranks with others in catering to the spirit of division, trying to make brothers and sisters in Christ sound like idiots, when at least they are trying to help people through the very same ways that a great many clearly Jesus-loving pastors have believed and taught them to do so. And there are plenty of testimonies of present-day healing miracles, etc., happening.
If you don't believe God still does miracles, or healings, of course you aren't going to see any of those things, because the Bible says that without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please GOD. If God is unpleased with a person's lack of faith, why would HE reward that lack of faith by doing a miracle or healing? So, for those people, He doesn't do those things, and then they use that as "proof" that God doesn't do miraculous things anymore. And then, thinking they are spreading truth, these unbelieving, people who have displeased God with their unbelief, get on UA-cam and criticize their own brothers and sisters in Christ, who ARE able to do healings, etc, because they have faith that God still wants to heal people (at least at times; He is not a vending machine, and if He did heal everyone we wanted healed 100% of the time, we would be at risk for becoming so puffed up with pride that we would be useless for Kingdom Work. Just like Lucifer became useless for serving God once we succumbed to pride. God loves us too much to risk endangering us in that way. But the critics see that certain people aren't healed, and they jump on it and say that this person is a fraud or that one is a charlatan, etc., without ever realizing that there may be specific reasons for that, such as the possible reason I just mentioned.
Dear Mr. MacArthur, if you are not going to lead in helping people, please stop being a misleading obstacle to those in need of help, and those who are earnestly doing their best to provide that help.

It sounds like he forms theology based on what is currently happening in a powerless church, rather than truly basing it on scripture. How does he get around Jesus' Great Commission: Matt 28:20 "...teaching [their converts] to observe all things that I have commanded you". And Jesus had "commanded" the disciples to (Matt 10:8) to "cast out demons". It sounds to me like John MacArthur has a "form of godliness but [he] denies its power." (2Tim 3:5)

I listened unto many of your sermons and I feel they are among the best I ever heard. I agree with everything that you say except your opinion about Mary, the mother of God. Catholics, of which I am one, do not believe that Mary is a Goddess. We believe that she is the most perfect creature that God ever created, even greater than Satan. We believe that her perfection in God’s eyes is so great that He has granted her certain powers, which she practices in His Name; in herself, she has no power. I realize that this is not explicitly stated in the Bible but Catholics
believe there is Divine Revelation outside the Bible, which is done without changing the Bible. After careful study of the Catholic Church bishops, belief in Mary has become dogma.
