Building a Compost Toilet | Start to Finish
In this video we'll go from start to finish, showing how we built this compost toilet that will serve the folks working and visiting our community tree nursery.
The toilet will feature an odourless bucket and sawdust humanure system, a handwashing sink, and a clear perspex roof to keep the space bright and attractive, while still maintaining privacy.
We'll show you each step of the build, from setting the foundation to putting on the finishing touches. And once it's complete, the humanure will be composted and used to grow trees in the nursery.

Growing in Bosco's Boots | Documentary (2024)

Here is a little documentary film we made chronicling the creation of our no dig permaculture homestead, market garden and food forest in Kilkenny, Ireland. Over 4 years, we transformed an empty field into a garden, including wildlife ponds for nurturing a balance of biodiversity; A garden ecosystem that we came to find integral to growing healthy plants and truly organic food. We set up a farm...

Continuing this series of short permaculture documentaries; Here is a little film about something I've become ever more passionate about in recent years. Something that took me a long while to fully wrap my head around and still feel I have so much more to learn about. This one focuses on the soil food web in the context of no dig gardening. It features our own garden along with clips from Dr. ...
The Story of Permaculture | Documentary (2024)

After compiling a little film about Bill Mollison, there was a large call to expand on it and the origins of permaculture, giving some other pioneers their dues. So, here I have focused on some of the people who influenced me heavily when I first became interested in permaculture. It includes clips from David Holmgren, Masanobu Fukuoka, Sepp Holzer, Robert Hart, Emilia Hazelip, Allan Savory, Va...

This is a tribute to one of my all-time heroes. The course footage that I've featured here is from a PDC that Bill and Geoff did at Melbourne University in 2005. This was my first time looking back on it since his passing in 2016 and it has been a gripping experience, to say the least. There is so much gold in it that I struggled to cram just some of it into this short film. I'd highly recommen...

How to Make the ULTIMATE Compost with Worms | The Bathtub Method
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Рік тому
I've tried a few different worm farms over the years but the bathtub method is hands down my favourite for it's size and simplicity. Unlike other worm farms, I've never had any trouble with it overheating, drying out or getting too wet. It just seams to self regulate perfectly with no need for any intervention. If you enjoy watching what we do and would like us to keep doing it, consider suppor...

The book of forms : Exact greenhouse shape is the Gothic (lower). the arch recalls water forces therefore humid, it means fungi and bacteria.A row dedicated to nettle interspersed with echinacea (no fungi on your greenhause).a thyme plant on the corner. the triangle forces of light (Aridity) the Gothic is exactly between the two , Green hause long 33 meters open to south. the pond the exact shape is bean-shaped, the concave part goes south where the LIFE arrives, depth '2.5 meters otherwise it is a puddle, no life is forming, the pond in this shape expand water force all around(You can put a hedge on the opposite side, in this way the water force makes a jump and expands even further) . can use a plant for example ficus carica(moon and water force) for water force expand.Ciao from Italy

    • @BoscosGarden
      @BoscosGarden 26 днів тому

I would love to try using pigs. Sepp Holzer is worth checking out if that interests you. Though, I think it might only work for larger ponds. I'd also like to experiment with using locally sourced raw wool infused with bentonite. I don't see why the plastic is necessary for these sheets, but they were all I could get my hands on here and it seemed preferable and more long-lasting than the ugly black stuff. The plastic fibres hold the fabric together, similar to a carpet, but surely hemp would do the same thing...

Great video I’m the same, I use nothing but nature to control the balance on my farm. Absolutely no pesticides herbicides fungicides biocide and no fertilisers other than what I can make myself on the land I’m one year in and I’ve planted all sorts of random plants in different locations and I’ve noticed that the same plant will do exceptionally well in one area I’m really badly in another so rather than trying to make it grow well in the area. It doesn’t want to grow my focus it in the area that lit loves… like you I’ve put in ponds and I’m planting trees all over the place plans are amazing once they become established. The weed growth is exponential but it provides a fantastic fertiliser resource. It breaks down really quickly when you add it to the soil and provides a fantastic nitrogen boost, but in a natural way through the soil food web rather than direct to the plants this way it encourages the buildup of bacterial and fungal life in the ribosome. Also, once a year I clear out the bottom of the pond and the dark green brown sludge is like liquid. Gold is the perfect time of year to apply to harvested beds are very light till into the surface is all it needs.. you can just leave it on the surface and cover with cardboard or grass clippings and within a couple of weeks you’ll be absolutely amazed how many worms will be inhibiting the area it’s like a worm magnet I see the worms as my visible army of workers, they show up every day and get on with the job I never complain. I don’t need to feed them. They work really hard and they actually pay me to work for me …..wow don’t you just love nature :-)

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada. I loved the film. I am on a similar journey, albeit later in life. We bought a 22 acre hay farm 2.5 years ago, and have begun to convert the property to fruit, nuts an veggies using permaculture principals. I am hoping to put more time into the farm as i prepare for retirement. Finally, I've found my joy, my purpose and love for the soil.

Hi Shane and Kay (Bosco's Garden), I was inspired 10 years ago when I stumbled on Joel Salatin on UA-cam, trying to learn how to take of 2 Muscovy ducks that was gifted to me on my 50th birthday. I love regenerative farming and am about to start my own operation in UPSTATE NY. Your film has taken my my inspiration to a whole level. It's great to see that what you are doing is possible. I will keep you posted, and I will continue to watch your videos. Thanks.

No individuals to name, but it seems like East Timor and Cuba are two countries that have permaculture as a major factor in their national economies. On the other side, a recent SBS docco says Sri Lanka’s attempt to go organic on the national level has failed and crashed their economy. Have any permaculture minds weighed in on what could have been done better, or why that context may have been a poor fit for permaculture?

In the early 90's I spotted the Permaculture Designers Manual on a shelf at 78 Records in Perth.... The ouroboros/tree of life design caught my eye, I related to the words 'designers manual' so I read the back jacket and was none the wiser.... I flicked through it until I saw the diagram of a methane powered genset, which reminded me of the BBC TV series The Good Life, which I loved as a kid. That let me instantly grok what this book was getting at, self-sufficiency and a smarter way to homestead. That book has travelled around Oz and has a slight orange dust stain from the bush. Many moons later I'm back in the city and doing the urban homesteading thing - quite a journey was kicked off when I took a fancy to that book cover! :D
