I have never seen mice or rats near these bins. That may be for a variety of reasons like that they are out in the open and mice don't like travelling over open spaces. Or that it is covered by a roof rather than a tarp and therefore not as suitable for nest building. And while the chickens won't predate on them, they will scratch up any nest entrances and eat all the best leftover food themselves. We don't leave anything out of the compost. Cheese, bread, pasta, oranges... We don't currently have a cat but if you are worried about rodents, they won't last long around a good lively cat. Last year I had some mice in a tarped manure pile in my veg patch. They were nibbling on my beetroot so I brought out our jack russle terrier and a fork to upset the pile. With me digging and him snatching up whatever emerged, we had them all gone in about 20 mins and there have been no more since.
@@BoscosGarden Interesting thanks. We don't have a cat either but many neighbouring cats often visit. We will encourage them to come over more often. We will build the compost bins far from the house so that will help too. Thanks for your answer.
Very nice set up and good use of pallets
Thanks Dee. Looking back now, I wish I had made them a bit bigger but they do the job.

Question: Would you be worried that your compost bin attracting rodents? I suppose if it's far away from the house it wouldn't matter too much. Thanks
