    Folks, I've been getting a few comments asking why David Holmgren and others were left out of this so thought I should address it here. My aim wasn't just to make a video about the origins of permaculture; of which David played a large role in collaborating with Bill and I can imagine, probably did most of the work 😅 in writing Permaculture One and the Designers Manual. I didn't want to just state facts from Wikipedia, but rather let Bill do most of the talking and give some insight into the man himself, his character and style of teaching. I did try to find footage of David speaking about Bill but couldn't find anything, though I believe the 2 students that Bill refers to at the end of this film are David and Geoff.
    With all of that said I might go ahead now and make another video on the origins and advancement of permaculture with references to David Holmgren, Masanobu Fukuoka, Sepp Holzer, Robert Hart, Rosemary Morrow, Toby Hemenway, Emilia Hazelip, Allan Savory, Joel Salatin, Martin Crawford, Dave Jacke, Vandana Shiva and maybe even P.A. Yeomans, Sir Albert Howard plus the lost art of natural farming and food forests which predate civilization... If you'd like to see this, let me know and please subscribe to the channel! ~Shane
    Update: I made this and it's now on the channel page. Enjoy folks and thanks for supporting 🙏

    l met Bill when l was only seven years old, randomly, at our families entrance to our front farm gate as he had just finished revisiting an old client next door to our small farm, he was killing time before he flew back to Tassy later that day. But l will never forget that encounter, that old man about 1986 (who l did'nt know was 'Bill until 20 years later), oozed wisdom, kindness, visionary that blew my mind as a young kid and totally opened my eyes on how one could transform something arid and flat like our farmland and what it had to offer. He showed me a couple of pre drawn mud maps sketches from his parked car window from where he was sitting that he had done for our farm that memory clear as day from the side of our dusty dirt road summers day roadside .. Our family had no money or foresight to be his client that day even with Bills warming towards me, and massive discount he had offered my Dad. Well.. so stoked to have met him after some investigating it was him l had spoken to that day, he has changed my life.. thx

    As the universe corrects everything, I came across permaculture at a time when I had lost hope for this world both politically and environmentally. I was blown away. Everyone should do a PDC. Everyone should read his book. I fell in love with Bill Mollison through his last lecture series. It was videotaped. I had to watch every video at least twice in order to understand everything that he was saying. That man was an absolute genius and the depths with which he spoke were mind-blowing. To this day tears come to my eyes when I think about his passing and my misfortune in never having met him. Perhaps I am blessed enough to know the part of him that he wanted to share with the world.

    Dude this is such a great documentary. Thank you for putting it together. I kept thinking that the Eternal Bill would be laughing watching this. What a life. That speech by Geoff made me go grab my shovel and dig an infiltration basin. The people who underestimate permaculture will be proven wrong in the end. That quote from Bill about stopping protesting and creating solutions was fucking solid gold. My soul was well fed watching this.

    While defining permaculture with drawings on a black board, someone noted: 5:45 “He said: you made a sort of wardrobe in which we can hang all human knowledge in relation to each other!”
    6:25 Very funny story about a sea song he taught the Kalahari bushmen!! 👍🏼💛😁😅

      Heya, there's tonnes of information across the Internet to start with but unfortunately, there's a lot of nonsense too.. If you're serious, you could do the 72 hour permaculture design course that's based off of Bill's Permaculture Design Manual. There are a few that take place in Ireland but if you're like me and would rather do it from home, I highly recommend Geoff Lawton's interactive online PDC, which I think is starting up again soon.

      @irishcottagerenovation9900 The principles and techniques in the course are relevant to all climates. He covers 3 broad climates; tropics, arid and cold temperature, which is most like Ireland. If you're already an experienced gardener in the Irish climate, that is a great leg up. There are also 2 fantastic books that are full of information on temperate food forests that I can't recommend enough... They are 'Creating a Forest Garden' by Martin Crawford (UK) and 'Edible Forest Gardens' volumes 1 and 2 by David Jacke (US)

    The FATHER of permaculture? I know you're not the first to use this tired phrase, but did you consider how idiotic it is to claim that a system of cultivation of literally Mother nature's abundance would have a father? Get over the colonial, patriarchal, anglocentricism already. Just saying. To illustrate how.silly it is would you call.Vandana Shiva the Father of seed savng? We're in the 21st century now. People are ok with collectivism, as nature is, they don't need a paternalistic single male authority figure to follow. Do you?

    • @BoscosGarden
      @BoscosGarden  9 місяців тому +6

      The man coined the word 'Permaculture', beginning a movement that exists to this day. I don't really see why anybody would be so upset by that notion... Permaculture is influenced and inspired by natural ecosystems, but it is very much a human based system in that it employs the use of domesticated plants such as modern bananas, apples, pears... literally EVERY popular fruit and vegetable, that do not exist in nature but are the result of thousands of years of human intervention...
      I wouldn't call Vandana Shiva the father of seed saving... mainly because she's a woman? I don't even know how to respond to the rest of your comment...
      Yes, as a young man, I have been inspired and have looked up to this wise, caring, and insightful man who came before me. Again, I fail to see why this concerns you. Assuming what other people need and don't need is a dangerous road to go down, my friend. ✌️
