Buying a ‘98 1100 this week and the owner says it runs and starts but turns off because of the carburetor
@@cbrrr-p8v ok, yes it could be. Also could be blocked filter, not enough fuel, reserve switch not working or the fuel relay sending a wrong signal to the pump which will make it run like it is out of fuel, or if it's converted to gravity fed, the petcock is blocked...could be many things
@@MidlandCruiser you’re right, it is an endless list of things for this particular problems. I’m gonna start with the obvious. Thank you!
Thanks for the very good, no bullshit video! 💪😁 No like and subscribe, nonwords from our sponsors and no 2 hour story about what a carb is... 😂
Brilliant video ! Thanks
do you have to remove the exhaust to remove the rear wheel ?
Yes, otherwise you can't get the spindle out.
@@MidlandCruiser thanks buddy, recently bought a neglected example and have been slowly piecing it back together with the help of your videos.
I havent seen any recent videos from you in a year, everything ok?
@@ThatBikerDad yes everything is good, just got a load of other things on my mind at the moment..also building projects around the house. I need to find my motivation again to carry on with youtube, it is hard beside a full time job..
Aloha from the Island of Oahu! Your video is great! I think this is the problem with my 1100 Silverado. You gave me confidence to check it out! Mahalo!
La liberté c est magnifique ❤. Merci pour cette video.
Very Helpful Thanks
If you flood it, before you start doing anything else: make sure your battery is fully charged, and then wind the throttle to max, and hit the button. Works 99% of the time.
Hi, Great video tutorial. Just a quick question - is it normal that rocker arms has some play side to side as I see in your video?
Hi, thank you. Yes the play, as long as it isn't excessive, it's fine. It really is a small movement though.
Hey man you're on the wrong side of the road dude!!!!!!
Looks pretty cool. What metallic paint is used on final drive case?
Thanks. That isn't paint, it is the factory chroming.
Did you notice any performance issues after drilling?
No, not really. Could be deceiving though because of the noise, but as far as I remember it didn't affect it.
@@MidlandCruiser i see! Thanks for the reply. Also thanks for the videos by the way. Has helped me tremendously when working on the bike myself!
Thank you! You just saved this crinkly old pensioner time scrabbling around on my knees. 😁🤟✅
Is this with baffle in or out
The baffle wasn't removable on this version. Only the 2022 updated version has one
Great video, well done. Paul Lucas.
Great video. Use a punch and hammer to drive it out.
Watched several of your videos, they are great! I saw another guy do the bearing swap and his had a rubber seal on both sides, but he only removed the outer facing the cover. Did yours also have a seal and if so what did you remove?
Hello, yes I have seen that video too. The one I used has no seal whatsoever. In my opinion it is a bad idea. The only oil source for the bearing (previously the bushing) is coming from the camshafts, it sprays everywhere inside there and than flows down through the bearing..perfect. The bushing had 3 small holes to get rid of the extra oil in the head and flows back down next to the chain. If you leave the cover on, on the inside, than you are limiting the oil for the bearing which I think is bad, because the oil flow is restricted out from the head and can't oil the chain properly which could lead to more wear. The camshafts have plenty of oil flow for themselves and the extra what flows out is perfect for the open bearing...I have also noticed that when I ride the bike hard I don't get low oil level warning like others with bushing or sealed bearing which indicates lack of oil flowing back down and gets trapped in the head.. This is my opinion and I think it makes sense, so me personally wouldn't use any sealed bearing. Also remember, it must be a C3 rated one to allow for heat expansion. I drove about 3000miles like this and it's great, no issues. Hope this helps
@MidlandCruiser It does. Your thoughts were exactly mine too. Had the same concern about oil flow and adequate lubrication when using a sealed bearing. Thanks a lot! Off to swap mine 😊

🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👍
That DOES sound sooooooooo good :)
The plastic emulsion tube on mine is cracked. I cant for the life of me find a part number let alone a replacement part. This is causing my diaphragm assembly to not move properly. I’ve looked in fourms and countless diagrams and cant find any information. Please help!
Unfortunately that part is like rocking hore shit...you could possibly get a new (2nd hand) carb assembly easier. Also you could try and glue it, there are special glue available for using it in fuel, to be fair can't get worse than it is. To be fully honest I don't think that is a separate part which you can buy, it isn't meant to be taken out of the body. Hope this helps a little
Amazing video. Clear to the point. Good lighting and view. Thanks so much!
Thank you!
The screws are mangled because someone has been using a philips screwdriver instead of a J.I.S. (Japanese Industrial Screws) screwdriver
I just like to let you know my front bolts were just as crooked, if not more. How they get like that.... Thank you for making this vid, was a nice guideline
Remember some Falcos have a longer filter (3.75" [9.5cm] Hiflofiltro HF564), you can tell as the metal filter cap sticks out further than this example.
Seriously?! The needle assembly order is wrong in manuals? This is insane. Just went back in.
Thanks for video, it’s certainly a fiddler job, your video made it a bit easer
I got you buddy, good job. Got a sub out of it!
Thanks, it really helped me!

Kicsit megkésve: Boldog új esztendőt kívànok,s köszönöm eddigi videóidat!!
Great videos and infos about xv' s 👌 Can you please give me some tips, where can I buy the same kind of rear side bags supporters, as this ones in your video? ✌️
Hello, thank you. As for the bag brackets unfortunately not many around. I think your best bet is ebay and Facebook marketplace (be careful there, 90% are scams, never buy anything you can't collect and pay in person, speaking from experience 🤦♂️) If you can get a rusty one, there is always an option to re-chrome it if needed, and it will keep it's value considering less and less are available (bikes and accessories) sorry not much of a help this time. Thanks again for watching my video.
@@MidlandCruiser thx, I'll check that net sides 👍 Have a calm winter and exciting riding season ahead.
Dude Where installationvideo?!
I'm really sorry but, I had to postpone the video making for a while. Not sure when I will continue. Apologies
Hey Midland, it has been a HUGE help to see your videos during my own restoration of my '89 XV1100. I can't tell you how many times I've already came back to check how you did a step to make sure I'm doing it right. The carb re-builds were also a BIG BIG help and very thorough. For my question on this video. @ ~ 8:26 the flywheel looks like it is at TDC for the front cylinder, BUT, the cam shows that is it out of timing, they you turn the flywheel from TDC to TDC again then the cam is aligned. Are there two different times when the flywheel is at TDC and the cam shows two different points of timing? I'm asking because on my bike, at TDC for the rear cylinder, my cam sprocket points down & away, do I just need to keep turning to align it with the next instance? Thanks !
Hi sorry for the late reply. I see the problem in the video and I think it is an editing mistake. What is important is that at the end it aligns as I explain it. The single line on the flywheel and the hole on the top. If yours isn't like that than something could be set wrong. I also realize that you are probably solved the problem you had already.
Genio
Wow I love the sound of this exhaust on the virago. I'm definitely looking into one.👍
Anyone know where I can just buy a brand new carburetor?
Would you say it is worth was thinking of slapping this on my bike
Well I sold it at the end and went for a custom made one. The sound was ok, not loud, looks is alright but the craftsmanship is shockingly bad. Welds burnt through at some places, damaged, dented scratched etc...I wouldn't buy one again. I'd recommend Delkevic but they don't make one for the 1100 only the rear downpipe. If you are desperate because of the original rotting away then fine, but if for only the sound and the looks than try buying 2nd hand, condition will be probably the same (dents and scratches 😁🤦♂️) but cheaper. This is obviously my experience with it, I know people out there using them and happy...I might had a "made on Friday one"
How you doing love your vidios and a grate understanding machanic just wandering have cluch noise in verago 535 when bike is running noise when I pull in the cluch leaver the noise goes thanks
Hey mate ive bought a 2002 v star 1100 and its got a aftermarket lowering adjustable pivet links do you know the factory height ? And where do i measure from its to low im concearned about adjustment due to the shaft drive can you help regards scott 🤗
Hello, unfortunately I'm not familiar with the V-star or it's monoshock setup. If you are worried that the shaft drive is affected but you'd be fine with the standard height then just buy an original second hand set from ebay, or new whichever fits the budget. Sorry but I'm not much of a help with this
Hello, great upgrade do you remember the size of the edge trim purchase for the hole cut in the bucket?
Omg, that was a long time ago. I think the bucket is quite thin, about 1mm, so one which can go over that, should be enough. Hope this helps
Thank you for your detailed process.
You are the savior when it comes to the restoration of my virago 1100
Hey man when are you gonna return to the 535. Really curious 😂
Hello...I wish I could tell you 🤦♂️ I have loads other stuff going on at the moment
Ok Thanks you!!
