Jeffrey thank you. I get the groceries delivered. When I would like to shop I stay six feet from anyone, and I wear a mask. I'm vaccinated and boosted. I try to stay in the store only 10 minutes because it's impossible shoppers are walking by me. I also wear a glove for the contactless plastic card machine purchase. So far I have not contacted COVID. I wanted more protection so I am watching your video. I follow Dr. Fauci s advice and throw away and quarantine the outer package. I havent needed to wipe them down I picked them from the bag and washed my hands dont touch face. Maybe some guy sneezed or went to work sick touched it and touched his nose, right? So my cans and rice are separate for a few days. The UV light seems to make things safer. Throw away the bags if you can. I can't so I don't touch them after unloading. If I prepared the food, I throw away the package and use tin foil or plastic wrap to save them. I don't touch my face after doing groceries or put makeup on brush teeth. The virus is tiny.

Those frozen food boxes to have a thin plastic film on them. So in the home I would probably just wipe it down. In the unlikely event of a recall the Box the frozen pizza came in has valuable information on it such code and expiration date.

First, this doctor seems like a very empathic and caring person. With that said these are the craziest posts. The COVID emergency was NEVER anywhere near what this Dr put forward. Pre cautions were smart, this however was well over the top and truthfully created a large gap in trust related to public health. Appreciate the caring but this was absurd and un necessary

I'm surprised that UA-cam allows this to stay posted, with all of the false information, pertaining to COVID.

At first I did this for a couple weeks but in hindsight was completely ridiculous and unnecessary.

Haha remember when we all did this for a few months back in 2020 until we found it there is extremely low chance of fomite infection from COVID?

Thank you for your video and for putting yourself out there to care for the public. I have been doing this from day one we have an area in our garage that we wipe down all everything before it comes into the house even our mail.. I wish more people would take this approach. I go to the grocery store first thing in the morning when the store opens at 6AM at that time there is less exposure to the public and it allows me to do my grocery shopping with less stress. I don't just wipe the cart down I wrap the whole entire handle with wipes and wear gloves. After I walk out of the grocery store I put my groceries in my vehicle wipe my gloves down, wipe my purse, wipe my keys, wipe the door handles, take my gloves off, wipe my hands then I take my mask off I see so many people walk out of the grocery store after touching the handle and all of the groceries and they immediately take their mask off so now their mask will have germs on it. I would like to see more people take your advice wear their mask without complaining and to stay home we don't need to be out there socializing... People need to understand that they are not only putting their health on the line they are putting all of the doctors, nurses and their family in harm... THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE DOING.

I just wanted to circle back after all this time and say a big "Thank You!" for some clear direction/advice to work from during the early part of the pandemic. It helped us to navigate grocery shopping for my parents- since my dad is in frail health, we needed to be quite careful. It gave us a good procedure to follow, as we wanted to err on the side of caution with things. Thank you so much!!

Given that this is a respiratory virus, and is rarely transmitted through touch, this video should be taken down. Both my wife and my sister had fairly mild OCD 2 years ago. (it was harmless and my wife and I occasionally joked about it) After watching this, they both went overboard with sanitizing everything. My wife washes her hands until they are cracked and bleeding and it has stressed our relationship. Fortunately she has started therapy to address it. I know it has adversely affected my sister as well. They both use this video as justification.

hi, Dr. Jeff! Do you still follow these guidelines in your grocery sanitizing?

Dr. VanWingen, the only differences I have been doing compared to what you were doing is, regarding the package, I usually wear dishwashing gloves and I spray the package with a Clorox Disinfecting spray and then I open the package and dump out whatever was inside and then I throw out the box and then I wash off the dishwashing gloves and my hands. For the pizza box, I usually set it on top of a flattened kitchen trash bag on the counter while wearing dishwashing gloves and I spray the pizza box all around with the Clorox Disinfecting spray and then I wash off the dishwashing gloves and my hands. However, now that I have been vaccinated with both doses, I feel it's not necessary to clean off my mail, packages, and any pizza box I get pizza delivery from.
