Please remind people to wash their eye glasses with soap and water when they arrive at home. When we wash our hands we can run our glasses under the running water with a little soap as well. Don’t scrub the glasses but gently wash and rinse off. Mild soap and water will not ruin glasses. Just an extra easy step that can be taken. Stay safe everyone.

Technically and specifically, people should take showers when they get back home. Spray the bottoms of their shoes, and wipe stuff as they go. People don't take showers, but I do spray my shoes, wipe my hands continuously, and spray my bags before I bring them in. Once you unwrap those packages of chicken it should be immediately covered and put in your refrigerator. My routine is down now, but i am much more rigorous than he is.

I do appreciate the "good" doctor for his efforts of public service making these videos. He corrected his own cross contamination mistake in a past video and updates the latest information. This young doctor is a man that cares and I imagine his patients reflect that sentiment. Typically, this kind of teaching/training is left to nurses. Dr Jeff has shattered that hierarchy by recognizing that doctors and nurses as peers and everybody can teach, even universal precautions in our time of need. Not that you need an endorsement from the likes of me, but "hats-off!"

I already started doing this, though I was not really sure about wiping the thicker bags. I work in a lab and touch at least 200 covid 19 specimens a day. I wash my hands 3 times before I eat at break!
All of these are fantastic tips. I don’t go to the store unless desperate. I hadn’t been since early February. I was out of everything. I got as creative as I could until I could no more. I made a plan so as not to linger. May as well consider it a mine field. People don’t care. They’re casually looking for items they want and don’t really need with kids in tow, running around touching everything.
I tell folks “ask yourself how bad you need to go out or to the store”. You put yourself at risk every time you do. Is it worth it? When I’m going to pick something up from the store or pharmacy, I have a little bucket with a 10% bleach solution and a towelette in it that I use to wipe things down when I come home. When I’m done, I give the frequently used items a once over, like sunglasses, readers, keys, credit card, phone, remotes, etc.
Being in healthcare since I was twenty, I never wear shoes in the house and always wash my hands upon entering. I like to remove all of the harmful things I encountered while out of the house. Thankfully, I cannot touch my face at work so, I’m not in that habit. I’ve always been aware of my mucous membranes being the way for germs to enter. This makes me look for a dentist office with the strictest cleaning practices, I feel so vulnerable there.
I left the majority of my grocery items in the spare bedroom for a couple of days. Be sure to have large zip lock bags and containers to repackage items. I even save a few bread bags now and then, they came in handy.
I hope folks continue to do some of these things even if the threat is lessened or removed one day. I’ve always wished folks would wash their hands more. People tend to look funny at me when I break out sanitizing hand wipes at a restaurant. Does it bother anyone else when they place the filthy menu on the plate? Have you seen this? It’s rare for me to eat out, I don’t know the hygiene practices are being followed. I like preparing my own, it’s safer.
It’s clear I think about germs a lot. That’s what happens when you work somewhere where everything is contaminated. Lol.

Thank you so much Doc for taking the time to educate the public. I was a healthcare provider for almost 45 years and began my medical career as a medical Laboratory Technologist. I have tendency to always look outside the box because I know what exists out there which is invisible to the eye, yet can make us seriously Ill and in some cases cause death. I’ve been doing this for the past month and have even extended the practice to include my mail. I’ve gone one step further and have an area setup in my garage to separate and wipe down groceries. Those items that do not require refrigeration I put in a bin which remains in the garage. Produce I bring in and wash. My friends think Im nuts and it’s overkill. My response to that is, we all need to assume every person we come in contact with is potentially positive for Covid 19 and every item brought into our homes could potentially be contaminated with this Virus. I’m so thankful for all those who have remained on the frontline risking not only their health but the health of their own families to provide for the rest of us. Let’s all do our part and stay home in order in insure these brave, selfless individuals can continue to provide services to all of us.

Since my family lives in an apartment we cannot leave food outside our door. So we set up an assembly line. Huband brings bags to the door and I wear gloves and mask and sanitize each item and then hand off to my oldest to take inside and put away. I then have my husband immediately throw all containers and bags in the dumpster so there is little to no breach in our place as much as possible. People look at me like I am crazy especially when I am disinfecting the bottoms of everyones shoes but I just cant take the risk. So thank you again for getting this knowledge out to everyone possible.

@Legend B - He's a doctor, not video talent. His message is clear. However, in his first video he put produce in soapy water. I've been told not to wash produce with soap, not even apples, tomatoes, pears, etc. It's never been said why. I use soap anyway, especially apples that have that waxy substance on them that can trap organisms. And for freshness I wash only right before eating fruits. That will have to change now during this pandemic. Washing should mean with soap; rinsing should mean no soap, but it's used commercially interchangeably which is confusing.

I sanitize my counter before I leave the house. I scatter a bunch of bowls and pans all over it where I can easily pour things. I plug one side of the sink after washing it out. While shopping I wipe down the buggy and just shop. I have to pick up several items to read the labels if they are out of my regular due to food allergies. After I have paid out I stop by the bathroom and wash my hands. I use a papertowel on the buggy and put my groceries in the back. I hand sanitize my hands before I enter and spray the handle of my lift. When I come home shoes come off just inside the door, we live in am apartment and my shoes I left outside went missing. My jacket and hoody and mask are left in a pile at the door. I dump all the groceries on the floor and throw away the sacks. I then wash my hands thoroughly in the sink not plugged. I then seperate the cans from the rest and wipe them down with a papertowel and spray I had laid out and set in my laundry room to wait a couple days. From there everything gets dumped from bread to chips to cereal. If it has an inner bag I keep the inner bag. On produce it goes in the sink that's plugged. Everything gets thrown in a trash bag. After I'm done the trash bag goes outside by the front door. I then take all my clothes and take them with the pile by the front door and throw in the washer and again wash my hands. I spray the floor with bleach. After I go shower completely. Coming back into my kitchen I wipe up the bleach. I start a sink of dawn and water and let everything soak. I take the tongs and scissors and thoroughly wash them. I had also used the tongs to get the eggs out of the carton into a bowl so I can throw the carton away. I put everything away at this time even the cold that I left out. I wash all the dishes. I use ziploc bags to portion out meats and Tupperware or mason jars for anything else. I then wipe off the entire counter again. I wash off the produce and then vinegar wash them then lay them on a dish towel to dry. I mop the floor again and spray sanitizer on my shoes put them in the shoe closet and wash my hands. I then start the washer. I quickly sanitize my keys and put on a new mask, jacket, and beanie. I spray the door handles and floor by the front door. I get a different pair of shoes and leave. I get in my vehicle and everything gets sprayed. Gear shift, door handles, steering wheel. I also get in the back and spray my rubber mat that the groceries laid on. I go back inside slip off my shoes and wash my hands. I leave again and pick up my kids from my babysitter who hasn't left her house in almost 4 weeks. I then pick up my 3 year old and 2 month old. My 3 year old has a mask as well and my 2 month old stays in the car seat outside with a blanket over the seat until we get in the car. Coming home it's straight to the shower period. All 3 of us get a shower or bath for the littlest period. Hubby when he gets off work comes in slips off his shoes. He washes his hands and heads for the shower. In the bathroom is a trash bag for his clothes. He puts his clothes in there and I dump them in the washer immediately. I spray his shoes and put them away. There is a mat by the front door a couple feet from it. We do not pass that mat coming in so that area is deemed dirty. We do not cross that mat until time to put shoes on and leave. The bathroom gets sanitized every night when everyone is home and the one who does it showers again. I'm immune compromised and I'm the only one that can shop due to being the fastest and the one who can make the best choice if the store is out of our regular item due to food allergies. That and hubby works to early in the morning and can't go when everything hasn't been cleared out. It's a bunch to do but we have been doing this since before it was a thing. I figured when I got sick to research all the ways to keep a house clean so I keep from getting ill again. Our 3 year old has learned that it's normal but at the babysitter shoes are ok usually there until recently. I've been paranoid since seeing people cough in flu season and seeing them touch produce or seeing blood on a thing of meat that you would normally just lay on your counter. I think I've been doing this at least 4 almost 5 years now. I first got sick when I married and have been ever since. The mask isn't new either other than now my toddler wears one too.

A very special THANK YOU TO Dr.VanWingen. Your advice has saved my life and sanity.
I shop for a family of four. I decided to cover the floor with a flannel backed plastic table cloth with the printed side facing up and the flannel on my white marble style tiles. I gloved up put all my groceries including fruits and vegetables with thick outer skins on this clean surface. I then proceeded to spray everything with 70% rubbing alcohol. First I began sneezing, coughing and my eyes and nose were running. Had to take a benedryl and quickly get out doors to breathe. Over an hour later the real fun started. The dye from the table cloth had been dissolved by the alcohol. The dye on the food containers, especially all of the plastic wraps was also dripping everywhere. I spent hours wiping down what food was salvageable and then had to scrub my floor. Bottom line it was a disaster. As I was cleaning up the mess I was singing to myself an old Rolling Stones song, "NINETEENTH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN" LOL.
I have since perfected my technique.
Sending PRAYERS with LOVE for everyone's HEALTH & PEACE of MIND from. NYC ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

Thank you so much for this video! One other suggestion I have, I consider my car as a safe place. I constantly sanitize using wipes and also aerosol disinfectant spray. I’m usually the only passenger in the car. In my trunk I have grocery bags and a basket to place my groceries. At the store I shop wearing gloves and leave the items in the cart. Before I load my groceries I sanitize with wipes. I made peroxide and dish soap solution wipes since it is difficult to find store bought wipes. Items I can’t sanitize like fruits and veggies I load into bags to deal with when I get home. Another solution is to have a bucket with water and peroxide solution for fruit and veggie wash. I also found a basket with holes at the dollar store that I can load fruit/veggie that can act as a strainer when I’m ready to unload out of the car. I plan ahead so it doesn’t consume so much if my time. I’ve purchased non perishable foods to last more than a month so I can limit my time at the grocery store to just the amount of produce or other perishables I need for the week or two weeks. I hope you find this helpful.

It is so important to remember that we can still bring the virus into our homes even after we've done everything we're supposed to in terms of social distancing while we were grocery shopping. Your videos have been very good, thank you! Because I am shopping for 3 separate vulnerable households and needed to save a little time, I have been using 2 carts. I shop for one person’s stuff. At the self checkout (which I wipe down) I scan, pay, and put in a separate cart. When I get to the car, I sanitize my hands, wipe each item, and put it into the person’s reusable bags. The produce is each in their own baggie, which I wipe. Then I go back into the store and shop for each person separately like this until I’m done. When I get to each person’s house, I sanitize my hands again and leave the bags in front of their door. It’s time consuming, but If I do the steps like that, then my arthritic 91 yr old grandmother doesn’t have to do everything you’re doing. She just deals with the produce on her own.

Thank you again for this life saving content.....yes, it is that valuable.
A few things I would add.
    Using Lysol:
-I'm using it as you do, BUT....take breaks. This is necessary if you get a LOT of groceries(5bags worth). I found that it's pretty harsh over a period of time, and the vapors really start getting to me. It's best to clean with windows open if possible. It recommends little or no skin contact. Gloves are recommended. I'm using regular dish gloves.
    Rags:
I heard that you should get a fresh towel after a few items, instead of using the same one for everything. Would like to get confirmation on this.
    Wiping items after sanitizing:
The Lysol bottles state you are to wipe off the surfaces you cleaned after for a period of up to 2min. I haven't done this after two deliveries. Does everyone wipe off after cleaning??
    Vegetable washing:
I saw a video with someone saying NOT to wash with soap, as some veggies are porous and can absorb. Instead they use a mixture of baking soda and water to wash off veggies.

Deepest gratitude for all you are doing to help people understand ways to keep themselves safe while continuing to live their lives and bring in the things they need. Your calm, nonjudgemental, simple explanations with your glitter analogy make it easy for everyone to understand. In the midst of the varied emotions that so many are feeling, your kind and gentle nature is a balm for the mind, heart and soul.
Be safe and stay well! Take very gentle loving care of yourself! You are precious to many! Than-q for your service.
With peace, gratitude and grace! XO

Just want to say thank you for these guidelines! I've been following these tips for groceries for the past few weeks and they have helped me feel so much better and less anxious about bringing my food in. I can't do everything perfectly but the process of cleaning everything has been so helpful

Thank you for the information and technics. I am 65 years old and started shopping for this the end of January and have a pretty good supply already. However I need to make one more order from my grocery store. They have delivery and curbside pickup. I will be picking up my order at the curb and plan to leave much of the order in my trunk. Thanks to your videos I know how to deal with the perishables safely. I hope you are doing well, you seemed a bit short of breath.

I have watched each video you have made since the beginning of covid-19. I am so grateful for you. I am high risk and shipping was one thing giving me more anxiety. Following your tips has reduced that because I know that I am doing all I can to prevent. Thank you so much for taking time when you must be exhausted. You are amazing!

This is so helpful and so sensible. You mentioned very briefly something about cash tips. I have followed your rules to perfection and on Sunday after the delivery guy put the groceries on the porch I stuck my arm through a crack in the door and handed him a tip. We made no contact and there was a door pretty much blocking us. I sort of freaked out when i realized what I had done and of course immediatel scrubbed my hands with soap and water for way more than twenty seconds and even used purel after. I will tell you it set me back in my mind because I have been following your tips and other distancing tips to the T. ( Haven't seen my grandkids for over 3 weeks, etc.. thank you for posting these and for re posting them as new information comes out.
