GERUDO ARE DEAD - Defense Analysis ft. @TheBreadPirate
Go check out Bread's video! Now!! ua-cam.com/video/OWM1Hj49BvA/v-deo.html
Join me and The Bread Pirate as we analyse the defence of the Gerudo Town in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It may seem like Gerudo's military might would make them the race best prepared for an attack... but surprisingly, that is not correct. And here's all the reasons why.

    I remember playing BotW a few weeks ago, after watching the videos on lookout landing, zora’s domain and Rito village, and decided to have a look at the town from this perspective. The moment I saw the back of the throne room I thought “everyone is dead. A single lizfalos with a bomb arrow, and the gerudo are dead.” (I should also bring up that the lazfalos seem to be massively undervalued in these videos; they can camouflage, climb walls, swim (In quicksand!), and are intelligent enough to use metal weapons. And that’s not going into the different varieties.)

    Honestly, I got the total opposite idea from the shape of the Miner's Mask. That thing looks like it is completely _not_ shaped for a Hylian face (that front part sticks out _way_ too much), but instead looks like it would have fit more comfortably on a Zonai's snout, looking at Rauru.

      Okay, I'm not opposed to learning new things. Can you give me specific examples of complex structures that are definitely older than production of textiles? I did a cursory google on Mayans and from it found out that they figured out textiles during the pre-classic era, while most of their most known structures came later, in the classic era. They did build impressive things in the pre-classic era as well but from what I've seen, these cities and statues are dated either within the timeframe estimated for when they started using textile clothing or the rough estimates for the age of stone structures has great overlap with one for textiles - which is the entire point I was making. Clothing and stone masonry tended to develop at roughly the same time, cause both are associated with people who have settled for an agrarian lifestyle rather than hunter gatherer one. Meanwhile the stonework of the Zonai suggests a society that is highly developed already (like classic era Mayans), so they would likely be past the point of figuring out how to make fabric.

    Given their propensity to fly and travel, it'd make sense if the Village is less of a settlement, and almost more of a permanent camp. A center of infrastructure, but with Rito expected to be able to move out and travel long distances regularly, and thus power structure don't readily emerge. It's been a while, but I remember Rito showing up all over, so it'd make sense on that end.

    This was a fun video, but i kinda wish it could lead to one discussing Gdorf's own forces? Even with perpetually resurrected troops, and in pretty goid numbers, with decent diversity, they don't seem particularly close to conquering Hyrule. Various units lack leadership, or integration/involvement with other cells of their peers. Some of them seem practically mindless, and have junky equipment, even with the good weaoons now being corroded. Most of them are chaotic, random, and uncoordinated, while their leader, who is FINALLY back...is doing nothing. Even without a lot of targets they'd need to beat, to win, I wonder if they could really pull it off? In typical LotR fashion, I guess they only NEED to win a few fights, with practically infinite chances to keep trying, until they do, but that seems like a dumb way to win.

    I think monsters in Hyrule work like how we used to think maggots work; they simply emerge from the ground or thin air in unpredictable places, rather than having to actually move in. That'd make keeping a region totally monster-free into a sysiphysian ordeal, explaining why no faction has bothered. This us supported a bit by the imagery of dorf's rise to power in TOTK's flashbacks, in which beams of gloom from the sky simply create fully-grown, equipped, and instantly malicious monsters all across Hyrule including on top of the future great sky island's fortified wall, right next to hylian soldiers. Who's to say the blood moon phenomenon doesn't do similar things now and then?

  • @Failuigi41
    @Failuigi41 2 дні тому

    Yknow, apparently in Japanese ganondorf in totk makes some points about Rauru and Hyrule's godlike technology leading to everyone relying only on them, and forgetting how to thrive on their own. Seeing how badly unprepared the various hyrule-allied towns are for warfare, i think he has a very good point. Every group relied on the unity of Hyrule and her army to protect them in war, and grew so fat on peace that they were totally exposed after Hyrule suddenly collapsed in the calamity

    The Gerudo seem to be going for a glass cannon bluff strategy: feigning overwhelming military power in an effort to scare off anyone who would otherwise dare to attack them. To their credit, this has worked to their benefit: unlike just about every other population in the BotW trilogy, the Gerudo have only been directly attacked by three groups: - the Yiga, who live in the same territory and who know the Gerudo defenses better than almost anyone - the Gibdo, who were literally engineered by Ganon to be difficult for them to take down - Ganondorf's army, who are also Gerudo The other tribes all have constant monster run-ins, and in some cases (like the Zora) have actually been reported to have been in domestic wars with said monsters. The Gerudo have not, because their reputation as a military people is enough to scare off the smaller, weaker mercenay groups who wouldn't have the knowledge or strength to do anything about it.

    • @Drakenwild
      @Drakenwild 2 дні тому

      That was the strategy adopted by Russia few centuries ago (or at least I think it was Russia? I took my history classes a while ago, lol). They projected military might and other European countries feared it, that is until Russia got into a conflict and failed miserably. Afterwards other powers didn't take it too seriously for a while. The spectacular failure of Gerudo to defend against Gibdo could potentially be opening a door to harrassment from smaller groups.

    • @ryanaugenstein761
      @ryanaugenstein761 14 годин тому

      @@Drakenwild You are correct, it was definitely Russia that had this strategy. Russia was flaunted as so strong for so long then failed to beat Japan, not even in full on war, but just in securing a river in China and Korea (and given racial ideas of the time of Asians being inferior, this loss was ESPECIALLY embarassing), and then also massively underperformed in WW1 to the point that they were forced to make peace with Germany and was heavily responsible for the Russian revolution that led to communist takeover.

    The huge contrast between the defensive capability of the Gerudo in the BotW era vs how they were in OoT is staggering. The only reason Link was able to invade the fortress at all in OoT was likely due to him being a goddess chosen. Cause otherwise all the gerudo women in that era seriously need some damn glasses cause their field of vision is shit. Though one thing they still consistently lack is doors. Only the gerudo training ground and the opening out to desert itself had gates. But yeah, it's interesting just how different the gerudo structure is under Ganondorf compared to when it isn't

    I built a rito sword as part of a recent cosplay. The hole in the blade barely helps its weight problem. The sword is so chunky that it would weigh almost 19kg if it were made of steel. It also has an uncomfortable taper on the grip and very bad balance due to a thick hilt. At least it looks cool, though.
