I bet Harry was glad he didn't use the XK, the front ball joints would been knackered. IIRC the XL's onward got the USA Fairlane balljoints.
Geez, how old was Harry Firth even back then?
He fought in WW2 in Africa and Egypt. I heard him speak at a function one night over dinner. Very interesting and glad I met him. 👍
No the colour is Velocity. I used to own a bionic xr6 turbo & bionic was a flat (non metallic) colour. I can see metallic flakes in the video which makes me think the colour is Velocity..
I will have to check as I think Velocity is a lighter metallic and earlier than this BF2, whereas Neo is a BF2 colour?
@ can’t remember if Velocity carried over to the BF. I do remember it was in the colour chart on the BA mk 2. What I’d really like to see is a BF in Fantasy.
Thanks for uploading Mark. When I think about the power of the pursuit motor and braking of the 4 wheel drums in the XL falcon, I’m not considering going rallying. Mind you the roads in Melbourne are starting to look like they did in the 60s 😅😅
Yes, they are terrible. 🫣
Those roads would now require a $100k fourwheel drive to go along.
Looks like a Victorian regional road these days with all the pot holes. 😀

Have you driven a Ford, lately? At least you can drive a new Ford today, unlike Holden (she’s a beauty) that turned their back on Australia after years of misplaced loyalty.
If I recall it was GM that killed off Holden and it was Ford who killed off Australian Fords and it was a result of the Australian people who turned their backs on Australian cars causing both of these outcomes.
@ None-the-less, you could still buy a brand new Ford tomorrow; good luck buying a factory fresh Holden tomorrow morning!
@@AnyoneSeenMikeHuntTrue enough. 🤔
You can drive a new GM today just like a new Ford. Both imported.

Ford is the going thing! (If you disagree, try buying a new “Australia’s Own” Holden from your local Holden dealer). After 100 years, Ford is still selling cars in Australia, unlike the traitorous and treacherous GMH., which abandoned Australia. (Bitter and twisted Aussie who can’t believe that Australians were hoodwinked into believing Holden is more Australian than Ford). Thanks and well done Mark!
yeah but who wants what Ford builds these days. But yes Falcon was the more Australian car. Such a shame it's gone
No worries. I wish all the Big 3 were still making cars here. 👍

Further to my other comment, we had a fair few of these XR6s (BA thru BF) as company cars for the sales guys and some of the middle managers. They were better value on the lease than an XT because the resale value was much higher as a % of the purchase price, so the monthly payment was over. Win-win for our reps at the time, getting an XR instead of an XT. Couldn’t get an SV6 though, as the difference between a VZ exec and SV6 wasn’t like the Ford, so the only Holden option was a VZ Exec. You can see why the XR6 was way more popular!
Yes, Ford had a habit of offering S pack type models over the years for GL type money. XF, EA etc. 👍
Nice car Mark. I’m surprised it has the premium sound, but still has cloth trim. I have only ever seen premium sound paired with leather (aka the XR luxury pack). With the headlights, if you turn them on and back off again (once the car is started) it will cancel the always-on function, but you have to do it each time you start it. If it has been sitting outside for a while you may want to check the boot channel and seams near the hinges, as that’s where my company one started to rust when it wasn’t even 3 years old. Ford played hardball and wanted to dispute it. They claimed it was “owner error” because I parked it nose-down in my driveway each night, and the boot hinge area on each side would be a swimming pool each time it rained. After a few months it developed a water leak past the boot wiring grommet, and would wet the underside of the RH rear seat, and rear footwell. When they tried to put the blame back onto me for the water leak, I asked them what utopia they live in where every road and driveway is dead flat, and they didn’t have an answer. It got a new boot harness in an attempt to stop the leak into the cabin. When I bought my FG for myself, I fitted drain tubes using 10mm pneumatic pipe and push-in fittings. I started out with 1/4”(6mm) but they blocked up too quickly. The 10mm tubes stay clear.
Thanks. My one is very clean in that boot area. I ensure the same for my AU’s as well. Keep it really clean and polished to avoid rust. 👍
You must have a BIG storage area for these compact 😆 cars Mark.

Hi Mark. I love your videos. I love how you just simply love cars for what they are, regardless of make/model/value/popularity. I'm so much the same. I currently own a '66 XP Falcon Deluxe Wagon, '72 VH Charger 770 & '99 s1 black au manual vct, and owned [and most regrettably sold] around 50 other cars, varying from a 1960 Singer Gazelle (my first, for $300 & a rebuilt lawn mower) to a 2005 Peugeot 206cc. I also love cars and love experiencing different cars. This is nothing on you 😁 This post, noting all your continentals, then just casually mentioning on the Edsel you've got 🙂 Seriously, I'm in Tassie ( Love you JB btw), and to be honest (tbh in modern language), for me a great holiday would be coming up to the mainland and spending a couple of weeks with you and your cars 😁 A little constructive criticism though (gotta say because sorry, i was a bit disappointed), is that with $30 of fuel, the old girl would have fired up, kept going and loved it. This I feel would have made for a much better ending. Bit i still did love the start-up attempts. Been there many times 😁
Absolutely Gorgeous car the Landau hardtop , I’ve got the Chrysler CH hardtop and this is the only car that would almost prise it out my hands

Why oh why did our government let this happen to Australia. Ford and Holden was our life. They let cheap small crap cars in. No we didn't need trade partners. We needed to look after ourselves.
Look at what they haven done since! 🫣
Can’t just blame the government. Every person who bought an imported car is also to blame.

@markbehr88 What's it like having a car named after you, budd? And Yeah, 464 Nm or 342 lb-ft of torque, pretty cool for a car with the same tiny carburetor as the Australian LX 351C. I found two figures for the 460 that year..429 was 212 hp, with 443 Nm or 327 ft-lb of torque, while the the 460, rated at 224 hp, but importantly, 215 is quoted elsewhere as well. The dual exhaust Australian 351C 2V 4bbl was 217 hp and 429 Nm or 316 lb-ft for 76-79. Hi Mark, I've recently purchased a BF XR8 in a rare Chromaflair colour called Fantasy with only 75K kms. It was off an ex FCSD colleague that he brought brand through Duhig Ford (now Essendon Ford). It has many options, including a Sunroof and still have the original number plate. Please have a look. Cheers

I totally agree with you about these cars that even today they are not that appreciated in the USA and would be more appreciated somewhere else as long it is not neglected in the open rotting... Beautiful old American car, but where’s the temperature gauge?
@@masteryoda498 It is a warning light but the older ones have a temperature gauge (Mark 2 and 3). 👍
Hi Mark, these start way better than all the earlier cars as these have high energy electronic ignition coupled with a high crank output heavy duty battery and they will always start as long as fuel present. When I first moved to Victoria 16 years ago and Dermot was storing my big '79 Collectors Series 4 door Town Car it hadn't been started in ages, however, reconnecting the battery, pumping the gas pedal and cranking up the little spring in the choke mechanism, turn the key and whooska mine was running. One of the differences in the Aussie built Ford Aust Homebush Bay RHD factory 1972 &'73 MK4 Conti's, was Ford Aust fitted GIANT Mallory dual spark distributors which were huge AND had twin enormous stainless-steel points in them. In all the years I owned my built late 1972, but a '73 model MK4 Conti', I NEVER needed to change points they never burned out nor failed, what the tips were made of, who knows, in the filthiest wet weather, or in a cold winter morning with its big high compression 460 ci V8, it would start first go and the starter motor on that car was a fast turn over one too not a slow starter like some Ford engines have fitted, like my 1965 Galaxie with its giant FE big block 390ci engine, you'd always virtually say a prayer that it would start, even with everything perfectly set.
@@gregharvie3896 Yes they did well considering how long they sat for. 🤔👍
Nice colour. I have a xr6t bf2 in deja vu green, i m not sure if i like the colour. clear coat has gone needs front spoiler headlights faded, got combo for 650 of ebay new. Former owner thought zf was gone it was leaking pretty badly and banged beteeen gears and would shut down when you put the foot down. To fix i put slightly longer thread bolt in gearbox from where it was leaking (which fixed leak) Actuator on turbo causing management to shut down engine, 2 cam actuators gear shifter as it wouldn't shift manually replaced centre bearing plus ball joints, and its been 3 years and ran perfect since. Its is the nicest car to drive and the one i drive all the time out of my patrol np300 and Gt 335. Handles beautifully on the open road and the smooth balance of the 6 makes it soo nice to drive, i have had many cars in my years new and old, from slr 5000s brock commodores to brand new cars ect ect. and for me the bf probably in the xr6 with good handling suspension comfy seats and plenty of grunt is my favourite car ever.

Illuminated door locks ten years before Aussie LTDs got them. About the only part of the MkIV that I don't love, is the dash... I think that Ford Australia did so much better with so much less on the P5 LTD.... its' dash just looks classier than the Lincoln. Mark, could you show the operation of the rear side windows...
Yes, the P5 has a great dash. Re the rear side windows, they only move into the C pillar a few inches. Hardly worthwhile. They made them fixed later on. 👍
Hi Mark, this was the MK4 as Des Wahlberg designed it, Sermon E. Knudsen and Henry Ford 2nd saw it loved it and the car SAW NO CHANGE from concept, to what was sold to the customer, very rare as usually there is major alterations to make it easier and or cheaper to build. All the usual engineering and body pressing engineering guys were NOT ALLOWED by HF2 & Knudsen to alter anything. So it looks terrific with the tall grill and the beautiful multi-angle rear bar. In fact Ford won an industrial manufacturing award for two items on the early MK4 Conti's, the gigantic seven foot long bonnet pressing due to its multiple fine pressings to get the knife edge sharp lines in the bonnet and at the front it has the square cut sharp central section, but at the sides it has to curve downwards and there is an area which must morph and blend, similar story with the rear bar multiple curves and angles in a small area on the same piece of steel. Very hard to produce as a drop forge tool/tooling, however the engineering guys did it and won a high level award for their excellent ability to mass produce such a complex pressed body panel, and complex rear bumper. Re the differences, the 1973 model just had the heavy 5 mph damage proof front bumper and shorter grill, but rest of the car was the same with the lovely award winning rear curvaceous bumper, plus with fuel filler behind rear numberplate, the lower boot floor, taller rear mudguards, and way larger fuel tank, The last 3 years of the Mark4's were almost a different model as the rear quarter panel is entirely different with lower rear mudguards, a higher rear boot floor which cuts the size of the rear boot capacity, further is lost with the fuel pipe pressing intrusion as well from its relocated fuel tank filler on the rear left mudguard plus a way smaller fuel tank sitting over rear axle, instead of under the boot floor like in the first 2 model years, there's around a 20 litre difference. Re the external bonnet catch, the internal locking (with key) bonnet release was an option you paid extra for !!
@@gregharvie3896 That’s right Greg although I think it’s Wes Dahlberg not Des….it is an absolute style masterpiece. 👍
Agreed, 72s are the lookers of the range, especially at the front. Kind of like a classier 71 Galaxie.
