This brings back memories. My parents owned one dad bought it from McLeod Ford Rockdale a 69 demo runout 2 door 1300 4 speed manual model. We owned it for years and i taught myself how to drive in it. Thanks for sharing.
My first car was a 1972 2 door 1300 in blue ice. We put a 1600 in it with extractors and a weber. Always was so much fun to drive! It was a little rocket ship that loved to be driven hard and sideways! Friend of the family owns it now and it is in mint condition with a 2l with side draughts, worth a pretty penny now! I now have a mk2 panel van, 1600 with a weber and yes another little rocketship.
Hi Mark, This was a popular car, from a basic 1.1 litre to models like 1300 XL, 1300 E and 1300 Sport and the bigger engines 1600 E, RS 1600 and RS 2000 and were in motor sport Turing cars and Rallying and it all continued in 1975 as the MK2 came out, nice to see the Australian Escort, Great video take care
I liked the MK2 much better and with very good looks but only after they dumped the 1.3 and made the 1.6 standard and 2 litre optional. I remember back in the day we answered an add for a dark blue Ghia with black vinyl roof, 2.0 litre and manual. It looked great but the salesman told us we missed out. We couldn't find another one and with time running out we bought a GC Chrysler Galant. It had nothing remotely resembling the MK2 Escorts nice styling, but if reliability bores you then yep, you would have been bored with a Galant.
@@area51isreal71 My sister in law had a 1980 build yellow Ghia with 2 litre, manual transmission and black vinyl roof. Lovely car but she rolled it when she was 7 months pregnant. My dad was also in the car. It went off the road down an embankment. Luckily they were all ok but the car was a write off with the centre of the roof caved in. 🫣
My Pipe-Seargent had a purple 2dr 1300, it was primitive at best. I loved my MkII 2.0 Escort [hint]. Sure, as refined as a tractor, rusted near water & 4,000 rpm on the hwy but hilarious fun with the rear end. Thanks Mark.
Loves it. The Escort was an evolution of the 105E Anglia. A near indestructable car. Except Head Gaskets. They wer too expensive at $15 and took nearly half an hour to replace!

Very cool it still exists. That’s terrific. 👍

Thanks Shaun. I would say they were reasonably popular here but the Toyota Corolla and Holden Gemini (mid 1970’s onwards) outsold it here. 👍
Great ads!!
I do like the Ford Escort too!
Yes, a rugged little car. 👍

Thanks. Simpler times. 👍
Quite a step-up improvement on the 105E Anglia, though a fair bit harder to see where the back end was, without those tail-fins of the earlier car.
@@chrisweeks6973 Yes. Much nicer looking car. 👍
1:31 ..How cringey does that roof rack look?
@@Luke-PlanesTrainsDogsnCars Probably on ebay. 👍
Oh my God, those ads are cringeworthy! 😂
@@robbiemontgomery3441 There are some cultural cringe moments but generally I love them! 😀👍
