Sustainable Film-Making | Presentation
Hello my lovelies!!!! I uploaded another video whaaat! So basically this was a presentation I made for one of my uni modules which is based around art movements in modernity. I was originally meant to do a presentation in person in front of my class, but because of the pandemic the assignment was moved online and I made this from home. It had to be under 5 minutes hence why it's a lot shorter than my usual rambling videos hahaha. As this is quite similar to the content I've put up on this channel before I thought you guys might be interested in seeing it. Let me know what you think!
Another reason I wanted to upload this is that I'm really happy I educated myself on this topic and want to help spread the word about it. We were allowed to make presentations on anything that explored an aspect of the course more deeply, and I chose sustainability because I thought, if I have to make this presentation, I might as well make it about something that will benefit me further than just getting a grade. I'm very very passionate about sustainability, helping the environment, and doing good in the world - but I'm also interested in pursuing a creative career in the arts. I'm constantly confused about how I can make these two things mesh, and I thought exploring how films can be made sustainably might help me shed some light on that. Buckle in guys it's time for one of Daisy's long meandering anecdotes...
I'm studying Theatre and Creative Writing at uni (and I've now officially finished first year woooo!!), and I've learnt a lot since starting. One of the things I've learnt (through the modernity module I made this presentation for incidentally) is that I have a passion for film!! Literally have been watching so many films in lockdown somebody start a film reviewing podcast with me pleeease ahaha :D I really enjoy watching films, and I feel like almost everyone does. This makes me think it's probably a much more powerful artform than theatre, which is typically consumed quite sparsely by a pretty small section of the population (the upper classes and drama kidz). The reason I stress its 'power' as an artform is what I said above - I want to make a positive difference with the things I create and help make the world a better place, through education, spreading awareness and improving visibility/provoking thought about issues I care about. Ironically, it's through formerly studying theatre for the first time that I'm realising perhaps it's not the field for me.
This is not me trying to diss theatre - I absolutely love it and am so grateful for everything its done for my confidence, friendships and creative perspective. But I do wonder how much impact it really has. For people involved in shows, it has a lot of impact, for sure. It's such a bonding experience creating a show with a group of people, and it's so fun and freeing to experiment with becoming someone else. I think youth theatre is an absolutely amazing way for kids/teens to grow in confidence, develop their identity, have fun with others and feel part of something bigger. To me, that seems to be the biggest impact of theatre (would you agree...?), and I'm looking to get involved in that field potentially. :O
But as I said, I'm also growing an interest in film. At first I resisted this, because I have this weird idea in my head that filmmaking isn't a career that fits with my values - it's centred around technology and the artificial, where theatre is about presence and real people in front of you in the same space. I couldn't see how film could be eco friendly - but I had a suspicion somebody must've managed to make it happen. Hence this presentation! Wooo we made it back to what this description is supposed to be about!
I actually found researching this topic suuuuper fascinating and really encouraging! I LOVE the idea of the eco manager and feel like it might be something I'd enjoy. I've always wanted to be an extra in a film, so I'm thinking maybe when we obliterate this horrible virus I can finally give that a try and see what film sets are like, see if I'd like to work on them more. Then maybe I could look into Earth Angel's (or a similar company's) training to become an eco manager. Just an idea but ya never know!
Gah sorry this description has been so me me me!! Wanted to explore the personal reasons behind making this presentation; I hope that was somewhat interesting. How are you guys?!?!? Thank you for being absolute angels and supporting this channel even though I never upload on it!!? How we all finding lockdown? I've finally kinda gotten used to it I think, and though I miss how things used to be, there's been some positives. I read something online recently that I absolutely loved - it said maybe 2020 isn't the year that's 'cancelled', maybe it's the year we all properly reevaluate our society and sort our shit out. Maybe it took the world turning upside down for things to finally change on a real level. AhnoI'verunoutofspaceinthedescription

Despite the fact that I sound really timid and breathless at the start... I think this might be my best poetry vid so far. I really like the "notable quote" format as opposed to reading through the entire poem - I think it made for a nicely concise analysis of this really long poem. It kind of works better for exam prep too - usually you're not expected to go through the poem chronologically an...

Well, you can tell by my internet name that I really like this poem. For me, it really speaks to where I am in this juncture of my life, especially since my mother recently died. Because of my faith, I feel an optimism and attraction to the afterlife. But I also feel an obligation to do the things I believe God wants me to do before I die. I strive to be a better person, not to earn salvation but to do God's will. I don't quite have the hang of it yet. There's a lot for me to learn and do in this world but I'm torn between this life and the life to come. Read Philippians 1:23

Isn't this poem, like most other great poetry, a sort of Rorschach test using words instead of ink blots? Your analysis is excellent, and there are of course others., and each would, I suppose, be reflective of who each of the analysts is...their nature and nurture...their psychology. Without Frost to enlighten us himself as to all he meant to convey, how can we know which is right (what he intended), or would Frost perhaps be happy to admit and accept that there are valid interpretations of his poem which he never even intended for us to make? Roads not taken that could have been taken?

While I am generally not a fan of "sometimes the curtains are just purple" type of analysis, that is, I do think things like that often do symbolise somethig, either intentionally or not. But, I think in the case of this poem there is still meaning to be found just by taking it at face value. Man stops by snowy woods on his way to somewhere. He might not have a permission to be there, but there's no one to see it so it is fine, and so he takes a moment to take in the beauty of the scene before he has to keep moving, things to do, places to be
