Whoa that is so nice of you to say! I used to read loads of Shakespeare aloud to myself and over time I just got comfortable getting into the emotions of the characters, so I think that might’ve helped. Seriously though you’ve just made my day with that compliment! Xx
Beyond just being impressively insightful and informative, these videos are making me admire his poetry in new ways. And your conclusion to the woman's account in the description - "To me this highlights how the characters in Home Burial spend too much time speaking and not enough listening, do too much presuming and not enough understanding - and in this way them trying so hard to communicate and be heard by one another actually gets in the way of true connection between them" - is what's gonna stick with me for awhile. It really sealed in the lesson, so thanks!
Oh my goodness, thank you so so much for this, you just made my day! The aim of these videos was originally just to help people through exams, but like you as I’ve learned more about the poems I’ve realised how brilliant Frost was and how much he can teach us through his stories. So the fact that I helped you appreciate him more is freaking awesome! Thanks again for this comment, bless you! x
Is it weird that I'm more worried about your plans for the channel after the CIE, than the CIE itself? XD Oh and good luck btw, I wonder if you're just rewatching your videos to prep for it, must feel cool :D All the best!
Haha weird but very nice of you!! Good luck to you too. Lol I probably should be watching the videos... just sat here replying to comments and eating pizza instead XD
Just finished watching the fifth video of the channel. To be completely honest, your analysis is way better than what I've learnt in English Lit at school. Thanks for the video and keep it up!!!
Thank you for the feedback and support! That means a lot that my videos are helpful to you, we gotta work together to improve this education system! Best of luck with ur studies xx
So I've just stumbled upon your videos and... yep I'm pretty sure this is going to be the saving grace for my exams 😭 Thank you so much for all these analysis vids you're the absolute best oh my god Xxx
I know I'm not the first to say this, but what a wonderful video! It's super helpful, beautifully read, and intelligently analyzed. Thank you for your insight; I'm very grateful. "If you see something beautiful in someone speak it" -Ruthie Lindsey
Just got done with this one. God your ideas on this are so riveting!! Bravo girl! Probably your best work! The queen is elevating to the stature of a Literary Empress!!
Hassan Mirza I FREAKING LOVE YOU. Haha thanks so much! I can’t take all the credit - I research a lot so not all of the ideas are mine and this poem has loads of great discussion-worthy material. Bravo Robert Frost! I was quite proud of this one though and how in-depth I got into the themes of gender and communication. I thought not many people would like it because it’s very long so it means a lot that you got value from it.
I was supposed to make a presentation on this poem as an assignment. And although I initially had no particular interest in it, and just wanted to get it over with-- I have to say that the way you explained this has honestly touched a nerve inside of me. Such a tragic yet beautiful poem. Reminded me of a past relationship. As a third person, it's easy to point out where both the husband and wife are at fault, but I feel that when you are in that position it requires a lot of heart and mutual effort to put your ego aside and look beyond yourself. To truly understand each other.. and by the time you finally do, you have already irreconcilably drifted apart. Such a shame.
Oh my goodness thank you so much for saying that! Sooo happy that I helped you get into the poem and that it had such an effect on you. Such a touching and heart wrenching poem I agree. All the best xx
@@daizchalkx8490 One more thing....Kindly try to add some of the videos containg detailed analysis on Sylvia Plath's poems....Including Lady lazarus, the arrival of the Bea, Ariel, The Bee Meeting and Morning song......Thank you
Your analysis was terrific. I personally see some things differently than you but that is what literature is all about. In just a quick supposition I find that she feels trapped because nothing there "the house and property" is hers or part of her heritage. Obviously she moved into a home that was owned by her husband before their marriage and that is where "his people " have lived and are now buried. Now his son is with them and subliminaly still attached to him, but she has lost everything. She has nothing to call her own. She feels isolated. It wouldn't matter if he had legally attached her to the property, in her mind it was his and his people's. She lost everything. Her child was her only tangible and intangible tie to this home. She wants outside the door because she wants out of HIS home. Without her child this home is no longer hers. During the writing of this poem it was common for women to move into her husband's family home and sometimes vica versa. He is obviously hurt but he does find some solace in the fact that HIS child is buried with his people; therefore, keeping his progeny attatched to himself, his family and his land. His "fence" is his mortality salience terror management theory(TMT). As long as his child was alive he would remain alive and subsequently in that child's future progeny. That is why I belive that Frost makes reference to the rotting birch. Though Frost never studied concepts like TMT he "as a human being" had his own mortality salience and I believe that he, whether intentionally or unintentionally, captures this man's TMT. The man is ready to move on. Yes he is grieving, but as referenced in his words "first child" he is ready to come together with his wife and restart HIS family. The contrast in their reactions is the loss of attachment for her and the attachment for him (though subliminally). This "to me" is about power. He has the upper hand and is not willing to "come down to her" despite her need for him to acknowledge that they both have lost THEIR child. She needs him to forsake everything (emotionally) for her. She wants him to strip himself from the attachments he has to home, property, and social standing and to focus on her and to understand that SHE has lost everything. She doesn't give a damn that someone is coming down the road. She needs him to be a real MAN and tell her that they will get to get through this together no matter the cost. Kinda like the fireman adage of "you go we go". She feels lonely and isolated and needs his affection and understanding to help her cope. She can't see how the world keeps spinning and "friends" go about life; because, her life is buried with his people and has stopped. She need him to understand these things but she knows that he will be angry and frustrated if she conveys these feelings to him. This was apparent with his burst of anger. His power is expressed in body language, position, tone and in the end, force. She only wants him to love her and come down to her (feel her pain / theory of mind /empathy) but she feels that he cannot. She wants him to ask, "what do you need", "how do you feel", "what can we do together" but he, whether by obligation, social construct or personality is not able. I would have laid with her and held her. Talked with her not at her, nor give her solutions to cope with her pain. She was empty and he should have filled her void with empathy but he was only able to cope by keeping the high ground and could not or would not come down to her.
Hii thnx for this a lot honestly u are the best I have exams going on right now Can u tell if whether I should attempt extract question or general one ?
You are so welcome! Hmm, I’m not sure about the passage or general question thing. Usually I try to practise and prepare for both, because that gives you more opportunity to play to your strengths. E.g. if one of the questions was about your favourite poem and the other was about one you hate and had barely studied, you would be able to choose the former. However I know a lot of people choose to only attempt the passage questions, and I actually ended up doing that in my exam. Especially for these 20 Robert Frost poems where it’s frikkin hard to remember information on any one of them without it in front of you... I reckon passage questions are a good bet. However if you do decide you’re only gonna answer the passage questions you really do have to make sure you’re solid on every poem. It’s all down to personal preference really so let me know your thoughts. I hope this helped! x
I also want to follow your emotional speaking style......Can you help me out by giving some of the useful instructions..??? It will be an honour for me...Thanks
Wow! That’s so nice of you to ask, I didn’t think it was that good! I am definitely not an expert but here’s my advice: -think about emotional moments to take a breath or pause, helps build the tension -slow down and speed up your speech depending on whether the character is angry, disbelieving, hurt, hopeless or desperate etc. -steadily build the tension or exasperation in the characters, and think about the moment they crack and the poem reaches its new ending -try and picture actions the characters might be taking while they say these things, it could help you pace and control your speech -have characters be on their own emotional journey, but reacting to eachother But don’t overthink it! I’d say have a think about these things, get some ideas of how you could read it, and then just let it flow - try out different things, experiment and enjoy becoming someone else for a few minutes! Let me know how it goes x
@@daizchalkx8490 To read out simple text is quite easier for me....But to deliver my point of view with proper confidence and in a new kind of flow becomes a bit difficult for me...However i'll definitely follow your instructions...Hopefully i'll try to comment in some of your next video for Robert Frost....Good Bye
