you are real life saver! It's been almost 6 years since you uploaded this video but you cant guess how much it helped me! regards from a first year english language and literature student x
i agree that one of the main points in the poem is the absence superiority, BUT what follows from that is that there is no point in regretting anything either. i don't think that Frost expressed regret here. he showed that since no path in life is better than the other (or at least we can't know which one is better), we can't really regret not taking the other road. it could have been better, or it could have been worse, we will never know. it is not about regretting and wishing to change your decision, but rather about not being able to see into the future and know which road would make you happier, about not being able to take both roads and choose the better one. so he is not necessarily fooling himself in thinking that the road that he has taken is better, he is just wondering whether it was better or worse. and, obviously, not being able to deicide, comes into terms with the fact that there is no way to find out. he comes to a conclusion that, whether there is a better road, it doesn't really matter, because we will never know it, so there is no point in regretting not taking the other road.

Isn't this poem, like most other great poetry, a sort of Rorschach test using words instead of ink blots? Your analysis is excellent, and there are of course others., and each would, I suppose, be reflective of who each of the analysts is...their nature and nurture...their psychology. Without Frost to enlighten us himself as to all he meant to convey, how can we know which is right (what he intended), or would Frost perhaps be happy to admit and accept that there are valid interpretations of his poem which he never even intended for us to make? Roads not taken that could have been taken?

He explained how he and his friend got into a serious fight with his neighbor, setting his friend on a path to go against his normal instincts and volunteer to enter the war, where he died within 2 months.
