Still Austin is the best TX distillery
That fist store is on my UPS route. And technically you were in ankeny, Iowa.
ND Fargo is nothing but drinking. It’s a shithole town. Can’t even and won’t even call it a city since it’s all copy past bars/restaurants.
That kings county empire rye barrel strength at 13:23 on store 2 is one of the best ryes I’ve ever had, well worth the $100 price tag. I’ve yet to try their bourbon but I’ve heard great things. Edit: looks like it’s not the barrel strength, I wouldn’t pay $100 for the non cask strength version. That’s a bit of a mark up. Or I guess maybe that’s the new price for the rye? I ended up paying $95 for the cask strength, that’s a bummer.
I can’t bring myself To buy a bottle of bourbon with a metal screw on cap ……
🤣🤣
What was the damage on the 1924 from Amigos?
They were looking for $250
Copy that. Always weary of stores without prices displayed
So good. Love the 100% wheat. Found Frey Rye on a Vegas trip….video poker at a little dive bar.
Siiiiiiiick
WM has a cage for the expensive stuff. Did Naples, not have one?
I don’t think they did, they had most of it behind the shelf
The Same Old Moses says 'handcrafted in Oklahoma' but I've heard speculation that it is distilled by Gulf Coast in TX. I'm very late but if you ever detour through Lawton hit West Cache Discount Liquor. Small store but they currently (July '24) have at least five store picks. Fluffy's is also worth a look.
Thanks for the info! We’ll have to give them a try on our way thru next time!
Lead Slingers is a whisky from Mat Best and the guys that own Black Rifle Coffee, as far as i know. It even stars as the cure for the Zombie Appocolypse
Sorry , I was saying the movie Range 15, about the Zombie Apocalypse, had Lead Slingers as the cure
Heard, might have to give that a try!
Just started watching you're channel. Love the casual content and lack of snobbery. Hunting state to state is so much fun. I live 4 minutes from your DesMoines stops (Ankeny), and that drew me in to the channel. Sitting on a true Templeton Rye Moonshine...don't ask. If your back through the area lmk and we'll give it a try....if its still around!
That sounds so incredible!!!
Too bad you didn't wander into City Liquor. Some of the Hy-Vee grocery stores also have huge selections, including store pics. I always check in on other states. It amazes me what is available elsewhere and can't even be stocked on Iowa.
Dang it, where’s city liquor?
Definitely has a hay, grassy, musty note. I wouldn’t get this one again.
The cask strength is better in my opinion!
Not a bad price 👌 i think it's worth a try 👍🥃😉 Cheers
Definitely worth a try!
The loud music is ridiculous.
Sounds interesting🥃
Yeah it’s definitely something different. This was the first Bourbon/Rye blend I’ve had so I don’t have anything to compare it to yet.
@@RareBarrel Redwood Empire did a good job with the Lost Monarch.
Pass. Talking like a teenage girl 😂
You’re a teenage girl??
That St Augustine may be a"baby" but due to FL weather, it ages more in less time. Very Good
Glad we grabbed it!
Just saw it for $499 #NoWay

Any purchases?
Yeah, you should check out the haul video!
Your bourbon bar is impressive! Jelly as heck about your JD12 been looking everywhere for it. Great job!
Thanks so much! I didn’t get the JD12 until batch 2
If you haven't, you need to pick up a bottle of the Lone Elm Single Barrel that you guys looked at....it is a fantastic wheat whiskey.
Thanks for the recommendation, we’ll have to give that a try!
Looks good 😊, expensive? Cheers 👍😉🥃
Those ones are always a bit more than I wanna pay. Especially when you’re not sure if it’s going to be a good batch.
O Charter is the most bottom shelf of BT
I thought that was the case!
lol the snow on top of the propane exhange. Def January 2024
Truth
Fareway and HyVee typically have raffles for high end bottles in Iowa. Just to save you time in your Iowa stops. Kum & Gos usually have decent bottles behind the counter, depending on the manager of the specific store.
That’s really good to know!
Yes
You think?
I'm glad the group all talked up French oak. I've been on the French oak hype train for a while - it's the best finish for Kentucky bourbon. I don't think it pairs as nice with rye as a Barbados rum or wine cask do. Similarly, I think wine casks pair poorly with Kentucky bourbon. Maple goes well with either type of spirit but I view maple and honey barrels as a cheaters way to flavor bourbon. Why add a flavoring barrel that brings a flavor already present in the spirit? That's akin to adding liquid smoke to your barbequed burger. Just stop people. Many bourbon fans seems to have very poorly trained palates (probably from only eating meat and potatoes their whole lives). You aren't adding any complexity or layers when you finish a bourbon (which has the primary tasting notes of honey, maple, brown sugar, caramel) in a barrel that only brings one of those core tasting notes. Sure, they can be tasty but they just taste like Tennessee Honey... which is dirt cheap. Why recreate it? When you are creating a finished product you should look at it like a blending experiment. A master blender is adding layers and complexity to a final product. Why go through all the effort to just create more of the same flavors? When making a good bourye your goal isn't to create a bourbon that just happens to have a bunch of rye in it. You goal is to create a whiskey that has layers of sweetness, spice, and layers that stand out in a way you can't obtain with a normal bourbon or rye on their own. A honey barrel is the equivalent of setting out to make a Bourye but you really just prefer bourbon... so you add a rye that brings more sweet notes and none of the characteristic of a rye. It would sell better than a normal Bourye because bourbon is what people prefer to drink. Though... I've laughed watching so many new whiskey tubers start their channel hating everything that isn't basic bourbon profiles. They chase the overly oaked profile and the overly sweet corn notes. They think those two things = luxury experience. Then after 8 - 12 months they start to realize that rye whiskey has a lot going on... and suddenly some of their favorite whiskies are actually just rye or a single malt. A big example - Brewzle. Dude hated rye whiskey and now Michter's Toasted Rye is one of his favorites. He has even said "I'm really into ryes now" in a few of his recent videos. His barrel picks are still 80% bourbon - because that's what the subscribers will actually buy.
You have some good insight and info!
I find it CRAZY that the RD1 guy couldn't tell amburana out of the bottle. I can open that bottle and smell it from across my house. They really are pushing the narrative that their Amburana has bourbon notes... I disagree. Maybe compared to some of the amburana finishes on the market but I can't stand it so it jumps out on me. I took 1 oz of RD 1 amburana and poured it into my infinity bottle out of curiosity... and the amburana was still burying most of the other notes in my infinity bottle (750ml). Over 4 months or so I finally killed off enough of the infinity bottle to add a few more oz of other whiskey and I topped up with Benchmark Full Proof. That was enough to finally tame the amburana on the palate. I could still get it on the finish and it was almost nice, but still not my thing. The only good amburana use, in my opinion, is exceptionally light touch and part of a blend. Something like a triple finish rum cask, madiera cask, and amburana cask finishing blend of rye whiskey would make for an alright blend. Better yet... just limit Amburana to Tequila and Rum. It fits those spirits far better as a light touch application.
Everyone’s palate is different in that way. I really dig their amburana, however they’re doing it, especially in the single barrels is my jam for sure.
Hell i live here in lex and cant afford rd1i love bourbon ❤
But it’s so good
Uno
It’s gonna be good!
I have this bottle and it reminds me of a backyard summer bbq where somehow the grilled pineapple got mixed with a glass of wine. In fairness it’s tasty but finish is dry
I dig it so much!
Go West my friend!! Mustang/Yukon. Some hidden gems out here.🤫☠️
🤔🤔🤔. We’ll have to give that a try next time we pass thru!
Thanks for the videos. Scored in Dallas. Old Soul cask barrel pick is amazing
Let’s gooooooo!!!!!! Thanks so much for the support!
What kind of Maker's Mark bottle is that on the far right at 2:41? Goody Goody is kind of high high. Sigel's Russell's Reserve Private Selection is cheaper than the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel shelfer at Goody Goody. Make it make sense! 🥃
It’s an earlier makers private select.
This is the TW I always go to.....shouldn't have slept on that Still Austin, great stuff!!
I couldn’t remember if we had that still Austin or not and it ended up we do!
at the beginning of the video what SPECS location were you at?
I can’t remember but it’s north east of Downtown Dallas.
this looks like the flagship Spec's store of the Dallas area, off of Walnut Hill and US75
I commented it part 1. Y'all hitting' all of my stomping grounds. Sigel's is overpriced but you might find a gem or two in the Scotch aisle. That Goody Goody always seems to have something the others don't but they can't compete with Spec's or Total Wine anymore. Pogo's was the first store I found in Dallas but don't stop in much anymore, they went more upscale.
Sick, that’s good info to have! Thanks so much for all the support!
JT Melleck in last store
Good stuff?

Never see the Rebecca Creek. I might just look for it soon
I’ve heard great things about it but I still haven’t had it myself.
Yall need to visit Still Austin
Indeed we do! We’ll be in Austen in August I believe. We’ll have to set up a trip to Still Austin.

You should have visited Fiddlesticks Liquor
Dang it! I’ll have to hit it next time!
I've had same old moses once at a restaurant. It was sherry finished, and it was really good. No idea about this one.
Yeah for some reason this one on the nose was not it.
Road trip to Vegas! I can show you all the spots.
Let’s do it!!!! We’ll actually be in Vegas in July!
Weller is hard to find here in MN! Just started looking for it.
It is SO hard to find, pretty sure most of the store owners or distributors keep it for themselves.🤣
Going to Metallica in August, any recommendations for stores to pick?
Congrats on nice haul. I couldn’t find the Cellar Age or Baker’s 13 this past year. Weller SR may only be $25 but it is very good neat or as a mixer and almost impossible to get
Thanks so much! Yeah the bakers and cellar aged were tough to come by.
Enjoy your videos but wish you would slow down and show bottle and prices , please. At the first store those 2 Middle West bottles in the tubes next to the Widow Janes are from their cask finish series and are very good. Wheel Horse is a good WT101 alternative but where they shine are there limited releases like their cigar blend and toasted both which are $29.99 most places and a bit high at $42. Total Wine is becoming a total rip off. Been a Grand Reserve member for years. TW went from an awesome store to a watch your back place. See so many employees lead newbies and those wanting to buy a nice gift for a special occasion for someone led to TW own high profit mediocre to drain pour. Not to mention the higher than msrp Pricing they now do. I travel a lot and have hundreds of bourbons but also a lot of Irish (over 150). The price at my local TW is 3 times less than at some other TW for some bottles. Ridiculous
Hot dang!!!
I like Weller 😊
