Thanks so much! Actually when the tires were new, there was slight rubbing at full lock and shock compression. Not enough to be a concern though. After a few thousand miles the rubbing stopped. It looks like 245/70r16 is almost exactly the same dimensions as mine, so they should be ok. Don't forget you also need to consider the wheel offset on your rims. You're adding about 2cm of extra width, so you would want to offset about 1cm of that inwards. (Sorry for the terrible explanation. Definitely research this if you havent already worked this out).

@@rav4me thanks so much. It looks great! What tyre would you get if you had the OEM 18 inch rim? I've got the RAV4 gxr (South African spec) it has an off road look but doesn't come with all terrain tires and I'm due to change them soon. So would love to put an aggressive looking all terrain.

@@altaafkader9675 I'm honestly not sure what I would put on an the oem 18inch rim. I suggest using tiresize.com/calculator/ to find something that is a similar size to the current tyres (maybe a little bigger if you'd like).

Suprisingly, the fuel consumption offroad seems very similar to onroad with the hybrid. I find that economy reduces more when highway driving with gear on the roofrack or carrying a lot of weight.

Hi Seb, are you referring to the roof rack/platform? If so I think it is unlikely to be suitable for a vehicle with a sunroof, but perhaps the manufacturer can advise. There's a link and details in this video's description. I hope this answers your question. Cheers.

Thanks! Assuming we're talking about the same tire brand and type, my personal preference would probably be the taller option - the 235. A tiny bit more clearance... but we're only talking about 6mm. Honestly both would probably be great. But check with your tire dealer in case the rim width suits one size better than the other! Which AT tire are you considering?

BTW, if you haven't already, check out tiresize.com/calculator/ and compare the two sizes visually.

Thanks for sharing your story! That setup from your local dealer sounds pretty awesome. I can't really comment on the price because I don't know the models and prices in the U.S.A, but it does seem pretty good. Regarding suitability for your plans, it's hard to say... my rav4 is also my daily commuter, so I love the efficiency and comfort. I've never felt that it doesnt have enough power, but if you're carrying anything big on the roof (or a trailer) you'll notice a big reduction in fuel economy. With its limited clearance (especially its angle of approach and departure) it's not suitable for rock crawling or deeply rutted tracks. But hey, it's still pretty capable. Sometimes you just need to work out the right way to get past an obstacle, instead of powering through it like you would in a jeep.

Hello! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Here are the wheels and tires I use... Wheel rims: KMC KM708 BULLY, Tires: Falken Wildpeak AT3W 245/65r17. I don't currently have a lift kit, but I would highly recommend getting one. For the roof top tent, the total weight of your tent and cross bars should be under 80kg. Good luck!
