Edens Angora™️
Приєднався 20 вер 2017
We are a small homestead in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia focused on organic food and fiber production; specializing in Angora rabbits and hand spun yarns! The lack of humane treatment of fiber animals has been a huge motivator for me to educate small scale farmers on how to safely free range their rabbits. After all- they are more than just luxury fiber- but living souls! How did we get started on this journey? After being vegan for a year and a half my husband and I decided we couldn’t go back to the way we lived before, though we decided to go back to including animal foods in our diet. We love animals of all kinds and want to know that our food was loved and respected through every second of its life. My chronic Lyme disease has also been a huge motivator as well as a challenge in maintaining this amazing lifestyle and I hope to empower other chronically ill people to join me in taking charge of their health, their food, and their life!

Angora Academy Series- Essential Grooming Tools For Your Angora Rabbit
How are the French Crossed with Germans? Would increase vigor and probably longevity. I’d be curious how the wool would turn out.
Thank you
Omg Yogi is to DIE FOR GORGEOUS!!!!!!
keep going, I’m learning so much! 🐰
Nice presentation. Just a bit of info from my experience if raising angora rabbits. The English angoras need to be combed fairly often around their shoulders, ears, stomach, and bums to keep it from felting on the rabbit. I never sheered my French angoras, I always combed them with my wide toothed dog comb so I avoided getting guard hair. I was amazed at how much difference infiber amounts i got from individual rabbits. This was really clear with my first two French angoras who were full sisters. I got a big handful from one of the girls, but her sister produced 4 times as much fiber for years.
Great video
This was a great video and very educational! Id love it if you would do comparisons of the other angora breeds as well, like giants and satins vs. french, etc. I am getting into probably showing Angora rabbits and would love to know your opinions on the breeds like you did in this video.
I just found you and hope to see more new videos if possible! I hope you have found what you love or the pathway to it. I am debating getting angora rabbits for my daughter and I. I am a big fiber person and have always wanted angora rabbits but held off because I had children. Now, my daughter is getting into the idea of having and showing rabbits.
Tulsa, Oklahoma. I love French Angora and champagne d argent bunnies. I have a ton of wool collected and this is helping me not be intimidated to begin this process.
Everything looks so elegant and classy. Elisa, do you/are you going to knit angora sweaters?
I thought you're not supposed to brush at all because it tears out the hair and affects growth.
Thanks
I was wondering what your thoughts were about keeping an angora rabbit as a house pet? I know people can have strong opinions about this, but I was curious what you thought? Love your channel!
Do you have advice on (on the rabbit) wool care and collection during the winter months with Angoras that are housed in the cold but sheltered? Love your channel BTW!
Where can i buy carders like this?
Just discovered ypu, and loving your content!
How can I make my own carders?
Fantastic video, helped me SOOOO much! Thank you 😁🙌
Gently?! You literally tugged that poor bunny's ears. My god.
They’re not supposed to be on their backs…..
I am brand new to your channel. Could I ask you how you house your German Angoras (indoors or outdoors)? I’m curious whether it plays any part in their longevity because I’ve read that indoors rabbits typically have much longer lifespans, but I’m not sure if that’s accurate. Great video by the way!
Thank you so much for this video! The Angora male I just rescued is a biter so this will help a lot!
This is great!! Thank you so much!
Hi, what can i do to prevent braking out in hives and itchiness . Anything? Thank you!
Maybe the "scales" in the Merino fiber is what grabs and holds the angora?
German French hybrid, how do they work out.
Aha! Your one comment finally helped me decide on a breed! My husband is highly allergic to animal fibers (with asthmatic symptoms), so your comment about the French fibers being on everything and everyone helped me realize that there's no way that could work for us! A German or a giant it is! Thanks ☺️.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are wayyyy under pricing ! Here in Miami those angoras go for $700-1500!!!
I just commented on a video you posted two years ago, addressing some rabbit care issues. Every single one of these issues is not a personal mistake you have made but rather widespread cultural practice. It is clear you have real passion for animals and love them very much. You take care of them to a standard that has been taught for decades. Im sorry but your rabbits do not have enough space and do not look happy. The reason they are so calm and so well behaved is because they are confined. There are simply too many of them for 1 person or even a few people to have a relationship with all of them. Breeding animals for personal enjoyment or money is very very hard to do ethically even when you love every one of them. And often not profitable because it costs so much to begin with. Keeping them as pets is hard enough. This is due to generational malpractice, rampant misinformation, a horribly designed product market and the very nature of domesticating animals. I cannot see where their water is coming from in the video, but i assume it is bottles. Yes, bottles help with messes and the bunnies can’t move them, but they also cause broken teeth, severe dehydration, leading to many illnesses and death, and they frustrate and confuse the animal. The best option is weighted bowl. If an animal cannot even touch or see a surface of water, what kind of life is it living? And I know this seems very harsh but I say this all having made every one of these mistakes, I have tried my best to correct them and I could still take care of my rabbit better. They may not be as smart as us but if we’re being honest, they need the same exact things. Abundant space. A variety of food. Natural stimulation. And not just sometimes. All the time. The only time a bunny should spend in a cage or crate is when they are in a car, or the real enclosure is being cleaned. I apologize for repeating everything I said in the comment on your other video, but I would urge you to make the changes that you can. This would include decreasing the number of rabbits by selectively adopting them out to good homes, giving each rabbit or groups of rabbits at least the amount of space shown at 7:50, but honestly they should have more. I cannot stress enough that rabbits, as well as many other small animals, should not be living in cages. They are way too smart. I admire and relate to your love for them and I always feel horrible whenever I tell people these things but I have to. I said in the last comment that I had to live through the guilt of watching my animals suffer, but they had to endure the suffering. I was spreading my resources, time, space too thin among them yet they paid the greatest price. (Random notes- always hold rabbits with both arms. rabbits do not like to have their ears pulled or held. not sure why you blow dried the rabbit but. Just don’t do that.. probably hurts his ears and he only sat still because he was shocked. and don’t bathe them.)
(I know this video is very old, I’m sure your rabbit care has somewhat changed since then and other people have told you some of these things) It’s not your fault because the information out there is extremely behind but there are some very large problems with this set up.. Not enough space at all. Wire flooring. Outdoors. Again like I said this is not your fault. It’s very clear that you love them and want to spread good information. But almost all of the information out there for rabbits and small animals in general is wrong. Almost all of the products specifically designed for them are wrong! Cages, water bottles, loose bedding (paper, wood chips, etc), food formulas, toys, exercise wheels and balls, all can cause severe physical and mental damage and end prematurely end an animals life. The truth is there is not a single cage on the market large enough for a rabbit or most small animals. Rabbits should ALWAYS have access to at least 20 square feet of space but more is better. You mentioned that they spend sometime outside of the cage which is good, but they still should not live in cages. The only suitable home for a pet rabbit is either an entire room dedicated to them or multiple exercise pens connected together. I’m not sure if you mentioned what kind of climate you live in but it is not safe to keep a pet rabbit outside full time. They should never be exposed to extreme temperatures hot or cold, and a fan is not enough to keep them comfortable. Especially the angoras. This may not apply to you but another concern with keeping them outside is attracting predators. The wire bottoms of the cages should at least be covered with some sort of fabric. I know it is not fun or easy to clean, but it is necessary to keep them comfortable. they cannot live standing and sleeping on metal grating. There are many more issues but the last thing I will say is that you have too many and they are alone. Rabbits should have at least 1 rabbit companion, or a human that can spend a lot of time with them. I have had this many animals before and I was not able to have a personal relationship with all of them. I was spreading my recourses, space, and times far too thin among them and they had to pay the greatest price. I had to feel the guilt of watching them suffer but they had to actually endure the suffering.
The only bad thing about my bun is he bites the electric cords wherever he can find them! My outdoors sun battery lights, my fishing rod, and his clippers are gone!
I follow for angora rabbit information! I want to start my own small business, i'm 14, I can crochet and knit, so I was hoping to start spinning my own yarn from Angoras!
Very nice and patient rabbit! 🥰
