Homesteading With Chronic Illness

  • Can you homestead with chronic illness? Maybe the simple answer is- “You can try”. What a powerful statement though. You can try. You- yes you, always have the ability to make the choice to do what you CAN- every single day. The world is always telling us we aren’t enough. Aren’t good enough- for whatever it is we want to do. And the voices in our head chime in don’t they? They are saying to me right now that I shouldn’t even bother posting this- no one wants to hear what I have to say- let alone the fact that I have a huge splotch on my head for people to make fun of and I shot in portrait mode instead of landscape (oops). And yet- here we are. Do what you CAN today. And if you’re blessed with eyes or ears or maybe even both to experience learning and being inspired today- consider yourself blessed. I know I do.

Thank you for your courage to make these videos. I get it. I am single and about to start a homestead alone with chronic illness. I pray I can be only a fraction of the inspiration you are.

@@edensangora6825 of course I would be listening and hearing what you have to share.
You have value in what you share and it's important that you can speak so freely and honestly.
      I like that, it's refreshing.

You are incredible and a huge inspiration. I have learned a ton from your videos. I hope you are doing ok and praying for more better days than bad. I love your positive outlook and you have created an amazing homestead. So much love to you. I hope for more content when you have the time and energy, but definitely take care of yourself and animals first ❤️

Thank you so much for your support Elisha! It means a lot. I reallllly try to be positive. There are so many people out there that need encouraged and inspired to keep going. I’m included in that, so thanks for giving some encouragement back to me ❤️. I’m alright. Things have been tough lately and I’ve had to downsize the homestead to some extent. It’s hard to post videos in the midst of that, but I have a few ideas I may be up to!

Struggled with a life-threatening illness for a decade now. I've been obsessed with survivalism and subsistence farming all that time. I'm glad that it's possible to make it work, even with disabilities.
I haven't personally had the opportunity to get a place that I can keep plants or animals in, but I think I've only got a couple years left before I can start. Admittedly there's no guarantee I'll live that long; I never thought I would live to see my 25th birthday. But it turns out I'm more of a stubborn bastard than I gave myself credit for 😅.
While I doubt I'll ever fully be rid of this (I waited too long to get treatment) things are looking up. My meds have gotten to the point where I can take care of my daily basic survival needs by myself. I'm still exhausted all the time, but I recently started treatment for an aspect of my illness that I hadn't realized I had. There's hope that I'll be able to have enough energy for hobbies, and I'm not afraid I'm going to die within the year anymore! Yay!
I'll be permanently altered by the treatment, and I'll experience some embarrassing side effects (like hair loss), but I think it's worth it in the end: I might actually get to experience a piece of the life I've been dreaming of. An Angora in my lap, comb in my hand, and some bread cooking in the oven... it'd be better with a wife to dote on and cook for, but I can't be greedy- a garden with fluffy tribbles and mini-dinosaurs roaming around would be more than enough.

Hey Alden, thank you so much for sharing your very inspiring story! I hope all of your dreams come true- and don’t give up on any aspect of them! It’s definitely possible, though admittedly not easy, to live a somewhat self sufficient life that constantly allows you to learn and grow. I think it’s the best medicine there is. I for one have never felt so capable- and I hope the same is true for you. I’m sure you’ll still look like a boss without hair too- you sound like a real gem!

I understand! I suffer with chronic pain, but it forces me to stop and be in the moment. When I have days that I cannot do anything; I call them dreaming days.

Absolutely inspiring!!! I am currently in the process of seeing a rheumatologist, neurologist, endocrinologist & 3 different neurosurgeons due to my neck and back issues which often have led to the point that I can barely walk and can't feel my legs and need to use a cane or walker. It's extremely frustrating!

@@edensangora6825 I got up and did a chore that I hadn’t felt physically able to do in 2 weeks after watching. I think its really great you make these videos, because being disabled from Lyme can be quite a lonely affair. But I have dreams of homesteading, (I’m suburban homesteading now) and watching people I can relate to is really comforting. I guess it makes these dreams more attainable in a way, because I can visualize myself in them better. So thank you ~
