It's not a job for anyone with a young family, mate. I've been an FLT operator since I left school at a large, well-known manufacturing facility. We had a load of FLT ops leave drawn to HGV's by the big money. What they didn't realise is the sheer amount of hours and poor conditions you need to put up with to get paid that kind of cash. The sad thing is that most tried to return but couldn't as their jobs had been filled. I'm a B1 and B2 Counterbalance FLT driver in the north of the UK, making £28,000 per year. A class 2 driver is lucky to make that up here and has to put up with far more shit than I do. The lads I know who left but stook with lorry driving all do class 2 work. Most of them are on tipper waggons or pallet companies. It's a decent wage, and you're home every evening on time. Arse has fallen out of class 1's now unless you're doing ADR work.

Hi Billy been watching for some time and after 20 years on the coaches I have my HGV hazard and theory Monday and Friday, then thanks to the government paying I should be starting my practical the week after, just cant wait.... Thanks for all your tips for new drivers cant wait to get started

On the subject of keeping healthy on the job, I'm curious to know why the idea of introducing 24-hour gyms at some of the major service stations hasn't been discussed. It seems to make sense in several ways: it would 1) allow the drivers to maintain the basic levels of fitness they need, 2) help to alleviate boredom during breaks and 3) maybe improve the quality of sleep too. Having said that, I can perfectly understand why going to the gym would be the last thing a person would want after a 15-hour shift.

I'll be honest with you: I love Oasis. I got myself tickets at the first opportunity because I never got the chance to see them when they were together the first time. My teenage years were shaped by their music. As a musician myself, I grew up idolising Liam as a vocalist/frontman and Noel as a songwriter, but never as role models. Your disapproval of their ethics is for all the right reasons. The one thing I will say, however, is that neither of them needs the money. They've both had successful solo careers, but they could have retired with the royalties they get for Wonderwall alone. Liam never wanted the band to split in the first place and Noel has warmed to the idea because he's going through a divorce. I love the simplicity of your videos. There's something relaxing about being able to tag along and observe the trade simply from your point of view (and without any synthetic drama). Keep them coming!

I passed my medical yesterday. I was as apprehensive as you beforehand because I have a history of depression, but I was completely upfront about it and no problems arose. Actually pursuing a career in HGV driving has much to do with why those symptoms have gone away. Theory test prep is going well. Hopefully I'll see you on the road in not too long a time!

If you change the width setting in your truck size setting in the TomTom to narrower, it will fix the problem, I had the same issue, but it is a width setting issue. Let me know if you need the size to put in
