I do around 40-45hrs over 4 days, no sundays, no nights out unless things go tits up, class 1 doing shop deliveries. Not all hgv is long hours and nights out.
Fair play to you Bill. There’s red flags all over the place there. Had similar when i passed promised a wagon and drag never got it so i went to another company. You’ll be relieved you’ve found another job. Always go with the Volvo though.
I used to do Class 2 Fridge work with Agency the Rates were decent really good job for that work i Moved into Tankers Class 2 as I just done the ADR for Tankers and they said they do Class one Tankers as well after 6 months would put me through the class one. its one the Better Jobs for Hgv i found Curtain side jobs are ok as long they take everything off with a forklift most places they do at least it a foot in the door
Billy , I have a been HGV driver for 35 years , long hours , poor pay no family time , Volvo lovely ride and gear change is magnificent never misses a gear ,so smooth , the haulage industry is cut throat and the driver suffers with long hours and poor pay , any youngest looking what to do get a apprenticeship , Billy you have had more jobs than I have had hot dinners , that tells you the kind of industry you have chosen, horrible , good luck anyway,
Reality of a hgv driver first year : excitement, can't believe you're getting paid for it 2nd year : excitement gone, realise that you're home life/ life in general is falling apart due to long hours 3rd year : bounce from job to job because you can't handle the 15 hour days any more/ planners are useless/high stress levels...looking for that perfect job ( doesn't exist ) 4th year : leave industry this is my timeline and I'm sure it's the same for a lot of other drivers
Every driving job the same plenty hype and sold with great conditions but after 1 week your settled in and then get plenty shit work n long hours. Great for singletons men or wemon but family life is put 2nd to driving
Good luck with job, im currently with mainstream in sittingbourne doing my HGV skills bootcamp, have my mod 1 and mod 2 test next week, nervous about the mod 2. also I started watching you because of the mainstream stuff and now following your journey and seen you have had a lot of Jobs already. Is it that bad out there to find good work? as a newby once I pass hopefully by June is it expected to just grab any job and get experience before finding a job id prefer? Do employers ask about changing jobs also or do they not worry about that so much?
Mod 2 is piece of piss. Instructors will help you through it. They are ticking boxes as you say words. Just keep talking in your answer until they say great. They want key words, weight dimensions etc. I trained with mainstream, passed 31st Jan novice to C+E. After few moves got class 1 start with big company. Have patience once you pass it can seem impossible to get a job but it’ll happen.
@@DonnyUtton say hello to Wayne for me. He was my 3a instructor. My 3b was Keith but I was his last pass as went to work as John Lewis lead instructor.
Work for a compony for 8 years had a problem at home 🏡 had a couple of accidents in a week I had the sack a at to pay for the damage 💔 good luck kid 👌👍👋
Got to tell contracts are not worth the paper it’s written on I only seen one contract since I’ve been driving and that contract was over 30 years ago Uk tramping your payed a day rate and no over time as the hours are give and take

Billy's had alot of jobs over a few years on driving HGVS ,that tells you something about the industry, a bit of advice Billy boy , the company's advertising week on week , for driver's , as they have a high turn around of drivers keep away and normally when they you tell you a couple nights out means out all week , good luck as you need it that industry o, just think only another 30 years in the industry, glad I have only a few to do , good luck , can't wait to get out , will not miss it
